2014 Falmouth Little League All-Star Selection Process "Little League would gain in public esteem if all tournament teams were selected by the players themselves. Players relish the challenge of competition, but their anxiety to excel is in balance with an intuitive respect and admiration for teammate and opponent alike who demonstrate superior ability and skill." Taken from Little League International Rule Book and presented to the International Congress as a guideline, taken from the experience of the International Advisory Council. Adhering to these guidelines would eliminate many of the complaints, abuses, pressures and charges of favoritism which are directed toward the little league board or league vice-presidents and/or the board of directors in any given league. All-Star Player Selection Process Every player will receive a form asking if they would like to be considered for all-stars and for which team(s). The Majors VP, the all-star team head coach, and the Majors head coaches will select the remaining roster spots for the 11-12 team, with the 13th/14th player being alternates using the voting results of the kids and the ratings and input from the coaches as a guide. All-Star Coach Selection Process Being selected as an all-star little league coach is a tremendous honor. With it comes a great deal of responsibility. Falmouth Little League expects everyone involved with all-star games (coaches, kids and parents/fans) to be a positive representation of our league. They should all be familiar with our league mission statement and coach expectations (readily available on our website). The kids that play all-star baseball deserve a coach who is organized, informed and committed to creating an enjoyable, positive environment where the kids can learn the game, compete and learn how to win and lose gracefully. While winning can be one of the goals of an all-star team, maintaining priorities of having fun, doing their best and being a good sport is essential. Winning a tournament is a great accomplishment. However, that trophy is a souvenir of a given time when your team was the best at something, whereas, a sportsmanship award is something that speaks to the character of the players on the team. Character is something that will be carried with these kids beyond the white lines of the playing field and will help them in life. Every coach is asked if he/she wishes to be considered for the position of all-star coach (head coach, assistant coach or, either) at any level/age group. He/she needs to submit a request to the VPs of the league by May 28th clearly stating which team he/she wishes to coach (i.e. 9-10 year-old team) together with his/her relevant experience. The Majors VP(s), AAA VP(s), League President and Umpire-In-Chief then meet to discuss and select the respective head coaches based on the coach's experience, feedback from parents and from other coaches etc. The Head coach is selected prior to the team and as such, there must be consensus agreement among the selection committee that his/her son/daughter will make the team. The Head Coach then selects the assistant coach(es) after the teams are determined. All coaches must have been a head coach or an assistant coach during the regular season.
