SYLVANIA NORTH STARS 2017-2018 SEASON PROGRAM DETAILS TIER I AAA TIER II AA Girls (4/25/2017)

DEVELOP. COMPETE. HAVE FUN. I. Introduction The Sylvania North Stars/Sylvania Youth Hockey (SYH) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide each youth hockey player with the resources and opportunity to reach their full potential. We are very proud to continue serving the NW Ohio/SE Michigan area by offering the most comprehensive and highest quality youth travel hockey program. SYH offers programs for area youth ages 7-18. These range from Tier II AA programs through Tier I AAA Travel, including Girls only teams. The Sylvania North Stars are excited to introduce its program offerings for the 2017-2018 season. We plan to field 14 or more teams with over 200 players. This document provides full program details. Additional association and program information can be found on our website at www.tamohockey.com. NOTE REGARDING PROGRAM FEES: All program fees listed in this document as of April 25, 2017 are considered preliminary and are subject to change. Fees will be finalized prior to tryouts in May for all teams. II. 2017-2018 Programs by Tier The following shows our full line up of programs and teams organized by Tier (competitive level). a. North Stars Girls The North Stars are proud to once again offer a Girls program. For 2017-2018, the North Stars plan to field one team each of:

10U - (2007-2009 birth years) 12U (2005-06 birth years) III. Tryouts and Team Selections All North Stars teams will be selected through a tryout process to be held in May (pre/post tryouts are in August). Specific times, locations, and fees for each tryout will be announced on the North Stars website (www.tamohockey.com). There is no pre-registration for tryouts. Players will be evaluated through a combination of scrimmage and competitive skill sessions. These may vary by age group depending on head coaches preference. Team selections will be made by the team s coaching staff, hockey office staff and experienced independent evaluators. Players selected for a roster position will be notified by email or called by the head coach. In addition, rosters will be posted on the North Stars website. IV. Acceptance The North Stars organization takes the tryout process very seriously and invests significant time and resources to provide a fair and open process in order to select the best possible teams. For this reason, we ask that only players who are serious about playing for a North Stars team attend. Our evaluators should be able to focus on players who are serious about playing on the team for which they are trying out. V. Team Structure Mite teams can roster from 11-13 skaters and 1-2 goalies depending on interest and skill level. Squirt teams can roster from 12-13 skaters and 1-2 goalies. Pee Wee and Bantam teams will roster teams of 12-15 skaters and 1-2 goalies. Midget teams will roster teams of 16-18 skaters and 2 goalies. Girl s team rosters will depend on interest and skill level. VI. Season All Tier I AAA and Midget AA teams will take the ice in mid-august. All other teams will take the ice in early September. Seasons will end in early March depending on National-bound status and dates of final season-ending tournaments. VII. Player Development Player development (or skill sessions) are at the foundation of our program. Player development sessions will be conducted by the Hockey Office and include goalie specific training. Player Development sessions are considered mandatory practices for all levels.

All player development sessions are shared ice practices. The number of sessions and participating teams varies by age group. Player development sessions run from early September through late February. Player development sessions are not offered at the Midget level. VIII. Practice and Game Formats Weekly practice counts and formats (shared vs full-ice) vary depending on age group and competitive level. Off-ice training: Most teams will receive off-ice training sessions with UT Exercise Science. These sessions are conducted at the North Stars Off-Ice Training Facility located inside Tam-O-Shanter. Typically, teams will meet with UT Exercise Science once per week. Tier I AAA teams are encouraged to conduct one additional off-ice workout per week which will be coordinated by the team s head coach. All sessions are generally run either before or after the on-ice practices. IX. Leagues All North Stars Tier I AAA teams will play an independent tournament and game schedule. The North Stars Tier II AA teams will play in the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL). The LCAHL determines divisional placement for all teams. The Girls teams will play games vs. age-appropriate girls teams. They will have the option to join the Little Caesars Michigan Girls Hockey League (LCMGHL). X. Tournaments Budgeted tournament counts include any state or regional qualifying tournaments for all State, District or National Bound teams. Planned tournaments will be announced prior to the start of the season in August. XI. National Tournament and Qualification The North Stars 18U Midget AA, 16U Midget AA, 14U Bantam AAA and 14U Bantam AA teams are considered National Bound. All North Stars teams that qualify will participate in the USA Hockey Youth National Championship Tournaments at the end of the season. Acceptance of a roster position on a National Bound team is your commitment to participate in the National tournament if the team qualifies. Tier I AAA national bound teams qualify through the Mid-Am District Playdowns in mid-march. Tier II AA national bound teams qualify through Ohio State level tournaments at the end of February/mid-March. The qualifying tournament is included in the tournament counts as described in the Tournaments section above. The 2017-18 National tournament will be held April 5-9, 2018 at the following locations: Age Group 14U Tier I Location Charlotte, NC

XVIII. Commitment The Sylvania North Stars Tier I AAA, Tier II AA and Girls programs require a high level of commitment from players and their families, both in terms of time and financial commitment. These teams play at a very competitive level with the ultimate goal of advancing to the USA Hockey National Championship tournaments. The program is designed to provide the practice, player development, and game structure to help achieve that goal. Players who wish to compete at this level must commit themselves to the team and make the sacrifices necessary to help the team achieve its goals. Player s will therefore be expected, with few exceptions, to attend all North Stars scheduled practices (on and off-ice), player development sessions, and games. They are expected to work hard at all team events and show their coaches and teammates respect. SYH and its coaches understand that school and family are very important. We understand that conflicts may arise from time to time that take priority. Provisions will be made in the rules to accommodate some conflicts. We ask, however, that families manage their time and set priorities to limit missed team events, showing respect for the commitment of their coaches and teammates. XIX. SYH Acceptance Process and Policy The teams at each age group will make the roster selections as soon as possible from the conclusion of the final tryout. Once the selections have been made, players selected will be notified by email and/or called by the head coach. Teams will be posted to the website once all players selected have confirmed acceptance. USA Hockey registration for the coming season (2017-2018) is required to register/accept your position with a North Stars team. Please be sure to obtain your USA Hockey registration number in advance of tryouts. Upon acceptance, Parents/Guardians are expected to drop the $350 commitment fee check payable to Sylvania Youth Hockey within 48 hours to the Hockey Office payment box to hold the roster spot. This deposit will be credited to the player s program fee. XX. Payment Policy a. Fees for all programs must be paid in full. b. Any registered player who leaves Sylvania Youth Hockey without paying the entire program fee (unless granted release or refund per the Refund Policy) will be deemed as not in good standing with SYH. c. Any member who does not satisfy an outstanding balance from any prior season will not be allowed to tryout or register for any SYH or Tam-O program until the prior balance is paid in full. d. Member agrees to pay all program fees according to the 2017-18 Participation Agreement (see www.tamohockey.com). XXI.
