GREINER MAKES MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT: Grayson Greiner made his Major League debut yesterday at Kansas City, star ng at catcher and going 1x4. He posted his first Major League hit in his first at-bat, singling to le field in the third inning. Greiner became the first Tigers player to record a hit in the first atbat of his first career game since Steven Moya on September 1, 2014 at Cleveland. At 6-foot-6, Greiner matches Pete Koegel (1970-72), Don Gile (1959-62) and Anton Falch (1884) as the tallest to play catcher in Major League history. McCANN-DO ATTITUDE: James McCann had a pair of hits in Saturday s game to extend his hi ng streak to five games. TIGERS AND RANGERS: The Tigers and Rangers begin their seven-game season series tonight. Along with the three games in Arlington this week, the two teams will also meet for a four-game series at Comerica Park from July 5-8. Detroit went 1-5 vs. Texas last season, including being swept in a three-game series in Arlington. The Tigers have lost the season series to the Rangers five mes in the last six seasons, with the only series victory coming in 2014. SCORELESS STREAK ENDS AT 33.1 INNINGS: Fulmer posted an impressive scoreless innings streak of 33.1 innings during his rookie season in 2016. The streak, which was the longest by a Tigers pitcher since at least 1913, was snapped on June 17, 2016 at Kansas City when Salvador Perez hit a two-out solo home run in the sixth inning. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the streak was the second longest by a rookie star ng pitcher since 1971, trailing only a streak of 35.0 scoreless innings by Fernando Valenzuela during the 1981 season. COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT: Fulmer threw the first complete game and shutout of his career on August 14, 2016 at Texas, sca ering four hits and striking out nine. Fulmer became the first Tigers rookie pitcher to throw a shutout since Jus n Verlander on May 22, 2006 at Kansas City. ONE RUN-OR-FEWER IN EIGHT STRAIGHT STARTS: Fulmer allowed one run-or-fewer in eight straight starts from May 21-July 1, 2016, becoming one of only six pitchers since 1913 to have eight straight starts with one-or-fewer runs allowed, joining Bob Gibson (11 straight starts, June 6-July 30, 1968), Josh Johnson (8 straight starts, May 13-June 20, 2010), Derek Lowe (8 straight starts, August 31, 2008-April 10, 2009), Johan Santana (8 straight starts, August 23-September 29, 2004) and J.R. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, since 1893, when the mound was moved to 60 feet, 6 inches away from the plate, Fulmer and Jake Arrieta are the only two pitchers to record four consecu ve starts of 6.0-or-more shutout innings and three-or-fewer hits allowed. Arrieta s streak occurred from September 22, 2015 to April 4, 2016.
