ATHLETE WORKSHOPS Athlete workshops implemented, follow the High Performance Sport NZ Pathway to Podium programme which is aimed at preparing young athletes to be better equipped when entering in to the high performance sport arena. Pathway to Podium athletes are selected by their National Sports Organisations whereas the Northland Sports Talent Hub athletes have been selected by their Regional Sports Organisations. It was great to have two of our Hub athletes, Scott Gregory and Daniel Gaualofa, selected for the national Pathway to Podium programme this year. All athletes have the opportunity to attend workshops on various topics and receive support from Pathway to Podium programme coordinator, Ady McKenzie as well as access to the NorthTec High Performance Sports Lab and Kensington Fitness. Athlete Life workshops looked to support athletes, coaches and parents in understanding and developing the life skills and capabilities necessary to be a successful high performance athlete. Sport Nutrition workshops looked to help develop the knowledge and an understanding of the role of nutrition in the high performance environment for athletes, coaches and parents. Performance Psychology workshops looked to help coaches and athletes develop the ability to psychologically handle the high performance environment. This included dealing both with the pressures of competition, and supporting athletes and coaches to develop the skills to cope with the day-to-day demands of the high performance lifestyle and training.
