Kokomo finished third in the North Central Conference Saturday. In the semi-final game, the Lady Kats lost a heartbreaker to #3 Harrison 1-0. Harrison hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game. Lauryn Hicks pitched a GREAT game in all seven innings and striking out eight. Ellie Trine made a fantastic defensive play early in the game. Harrison had runners at first and third and attempted to steal second. The throw went to Ellie, who ran the runner back to first, tagged her, and then threw a strike to the plate to get the runner who had broke for home to clear the bases with a double play. Taylor Simmons also laid out for a diving catch. We had our chances to score but just couldn't capitalize. In the consolation game, we came out a little flat after the tough loss but pulled it together and were able to get our bats going again. We beat Lafayette Jeff 12-4. Lauryn threw the first four innings to pick up the win. She struck out four. Ellie threw the last three innings and finished out the game nicely. Taylor led us at the plate going 4-for-4 with three triples. Lauryn had three hits with a home run, a double, and four RBIs. Sarah Stonebraker added a single and a double, and Savannah Emmons had a pair of hits. The Lady Kats moved to 16-5 overall and play at Clinton Central on Monday. Coach Susong
The Wildkat baseball team had a great weekend, capturing their first NCC baseball championship since 2010 in dramatic fashion. The Kats pounded Harrison 11-1 in the semi-final match-up. Jack Perkins had his best outing of the year going six innings and allowing one unearned run, striking out 10, and giving up three hits to get the win. At the plate Perkins helped his cause going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and a grand slam while scoring two runs. Kyle Wade added three hits with a double and two-run home run and finished with three RBIs and two runs scored. The Kats also got two runs and an RBI from Colt Munsey and a run and RBI each from Noah Hurlock and Nate Hemmerich. The Kats took the title in the night cap edging McCutcheon 6-4. Bayden Root went 5 2/3 innings to get the win and Wade got the last four outs to get the save and secure the title. Root allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out eight. Wade allowed one earned run and fanned three. At the plate the Kats offense was led by Hurlock, who had a single, a double, and drove in three runs. Jaden Armfield, Perkins, and Hemmerich each went 2-for4 with an RBI. The Kats played their best baseball of the season on Saturday and got contributions from the entire lineup and took home the NCC Championship trophy! The Kats go on the road Monday night and play at Westfield with first pitch at 6:00 pm. Our Senior Day for the Kats will be Saturday before the doubleheader with Muncie Central. Festivities will start at 10:45 a.m. Hope to see you at the park. Coach Swan
The Lady Kats traveled to Culver on cold, rainy Saturday morning for the Culver Invite. It is a fun place to play and Saturday would prove to be no different. Because of the rain, we were moved to the indoor courts. This was the first time for many of our ladies to play inside. First up was Culver. Abby Bowen played well and challenged her opponent losing 6-3, 6-4. Everyone battled and played well but we lost 5-0. Next up was Fort Wayne Bishop Luers. We held tough at several positions and again, played good tennis but dropped the match 5-0. This was great experience for our girls leading into sectional this week. Coach Hemmerich
