CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY Each contestant in the Lewiston Roundup Pageant shall comply with the following effective on the date of competition. Contestants must: A. Must be born a female, turn 17 years old and not be older than 24 years of age during her reigning year. B. Be enrolled in or graduated from high school or an equivalent (GED program). Can be a enrolled in or graduate of a higher education institute. C. Must be a single woman and shall never have been married, had a marriage annulled, or ever been pregnant. She must not cohabitate with a boyfriend or member of the opposite sex (excluding relatives) during her reign. D. Must abide by all rules and regulations of the Lewiston Roundup Pageant. E. Must execute and provide all consents, waivers, agreements, documentation and/or code of conduct as presented as conditions precedent to competition and as detailed in the application packet. Lewiston Roundup Association reserves the right to disqualify any contestant for rule infractions. F. Must not have been charged with and/or determined to have committed any crime of moral turpitude. G. Must not have taken any actions, which in the good faith determination of the Lewiston Roundup Board of Directors, will, or is reasonable likely, to cause harm or damage to the goodwill or reputation of the Lewiston Roundup. Any contestant not meeting the qualifications set forth above shall be denied the right to compete in the Lewiston Roundup Pageant. 3

ENTRY PROCEDURES A. Each contestant must complete an official Lewiston Roundup Pageant entry application. B. The Lewiston Roundup Association must receive entry application no later than August 18 TH, 2016 by 3pm. Signed Lewiston Roundup Pageant Application Form 2. Code of Conduct 3. Medical Information Form 4. Copy of Driver s License or Permit 5. Assumptions of Risk and Release D. The following will be required to be signed during pageant orientation 1. Waiver of Liability 4

GENERAL PAGEANT CONDUCT OF CONTESTANTS 1. Lewiston Roundup Pageant contestants and titleholders are expected to conduct themselves in an exceptional manner. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Such conduct could result in the contestant being disqualified and may affect eligibility to compete in future Lewiston Roundup Pageants. 2. Harassment and arguing between contestants will not be tolerated. 3. A judge may not be approached by a contestant or any individual with the intent to influence or harass. Action of this type will be reported to the Lewiston Roundup Board and disqualification of that contestant could result. 4. The pageant is not officially complete until the coronation is completed. 5. Contestants are expected to abide by the Lewiston Roundup Pageant Contestant Code of Conduct. PAGEANT ORIENTATION Pageant orientation will be held prior to the pageant. Parents are welcome. Transportation to and from orientation is the sole responsibility of the contestant. The orientation may consist of the following: 1. An opportunity to meet the contestants, their parents, and available Lewiston Roundup Board of Directors 2. A description of pageant activities with the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers about those activities 3. Signing of waivers CONTRACT If a contract is used during the reign, a copy will be furnished to each contestant prior to competition. CELL PHONE USAGE The possession of and/or use of cell phones, PDA devices and laptop computers, is strictly prohibited by contestants during the competition events. In case of emergency, all inquiries must go through the head chaperone/pageant director. TRANSPORTATION Contestants in the Lewiston Roundup Pageant are required to pay their own transportation to and from the site of the pageant. Transportation during the pageant needed for contestant functions outside of the grounds shall be provided by Lewiston Roundup Association for contestants only. PARENTS, RELATIVES AND FRIENDS 1. Lewiston Roundup Association welcomes and encourages the presence of parents, relatives and friends of the contestants. No boyfriends will be permitted to fraternize with the contestants or to distract them. At the judges discretion, a contestant may receive point deductions or disqualification for an infraction of this rule. 2. At no time will parents, relatives, or friends of the contestants interfere with the pageant committee or Lewiston Roundup Board of Directors. 5

3. There will not be any parents, relatives, friends, trainers, etc. allowed in the horsemanship area during the competition. Contestants are the only ones allowed in the arena. HORSES Contestants horses will be used for the Horsemanship portion of the competition. Stalls will not be provided during the competition as your horse will only be there one day. Contestants may wear spurs. Contestants MUST make an effort to use the same horse they plan to ride for their reign. We understand horses are unpredictable in nature; if you are not competing on your horse, please be prepared to answer questions as to the reason. DRESS See Appendix A for specific dress requirements for each event. AWARDS Awards may or may not be given to high point contestants in the following categories, including Horsemanship, Speech, Personality & Appearance, and Congeniality. Awards and scholarships may or may not be provided for Lewiston Roundup Queen and Lewiston Roundup Princess(es). Specific awards and scholarships provided in each category may and will vary from year to year. Additional awards and scholarships may be provided. The Congeniality Award will be identified by a vote of all contestants. SCORE SHEETS If requested, judges notes from score sheets will be provided to contestants following the pageant. Point layout may or may not be provided GRIEVANCES Grievances should be immediately referred to the Lewiston Roundup Pageant Director. The Lewiston Roundup Pageant Director and the Board have full authority over the pageant and any decision they make regarding rules and participation is final. All grievances must be submitted in writing by a contestant to the Lewiston Roundup Board of Directors within one week of the incident. No other grievances will be acknowledged. They will utilize a fact-finding process which will include consultation with the contestant(s), the Board and the other Judges to make a determination. That determination will be considered final. A grievance cannot be filed based on the outcome of the pageant. RETURNING PRINCESS RULE Any past Lewiston Roundup Princess that meets eligibility requirements may only compete for the title of Queen. She must earn the highest number of points for the pageant to be returned to the court as Queen. If she does not meet this requirement, she will not be placed on the court as Princess. Any current Princess wishing to compete for the title of Queen may do so, but she is not allowed to wear her crown during the competition events. 6

JUDGING GUIDELINES Lewiston Roundup Pageant contestants are judged in three categories, all of which are equal: Horsemanship, Personality/Appearance, and Interview/Speech. Scores from any other areas of competition will be added within those categories. 1. Lewiston Roundup Pageant will provide for 3-4 judges. 2. Judges are selected for their expertise in all fields of the competition. 3. Judges will judge all categories of the pageant. 4. All judges scores will be used. 5. A Head Judge will be chosen. 6. Judges may, at their discretion, deduct points if they witness unsportsmanlike conduct at any time. 7. After each event, judges will hand their finished score sheets to the Head Judge, who will place the score sheet in a manila envelope. The Head Judge is responsible for the integrity of the score sheets between the time the event ends until that time the envelope can be delivered to the Pageant Director. 8. When judging in all divisions has been completed, it will be determined which contestants have scored the highest in each category and in the overall scores. The highest overall score will be Lewiston Roundup Queen; second and third highest scores will be the Lewiston Roundup Princesses. 9. A tie score for Queen (and Princess) will be broken by the Horsemanship scores. The contestant with the highest score in Horsemanship will receive the higher ranking. If tie still exists, tiebreaker will be highest score in Personality/Appearance. 10. The highest cumulative total of personality/appearance scores in all judged events will win the Personality/Appearance Category; the highest cumulative total of interview/speech scores in all judged events will win the Interview/Speech Category; the highest cumulative total of horsemanship scores in all judged events will win the Horsemanship Category. Other specific awardees will be identified as those having the highest score in that area. 11. Contestants must score a minimum 50% of the maximum score available from the judges to become a member of the Lewiston Roundup Royalty Court. 12. All decisions are final. 7

JUDGED CATEGORIES HORSEMANSHIP The purpose of this judged division is to select the young lady who rates highest in: 1. Horsemanship including control of mount and the way she handles any situation which may occur 2. Balance the ability to sit a saddle. 3. Control of Horse including higher speeds. 4. Positions of hands, feet and seat. 5. Mounting and dismounting. 6. Confidence, appearance, and awareness of audience. Contestants will provide their own horse. Horsemanship will consist of two components: horsemanship and a bust out. Pattern to be used will be announced at Orientation. At the Judges discretion, patterns may be altered. Contestants may also be required to participate in an equitation class. Any changes and/or alterations to the horsemanship patterns will be announced to the contestants before the Horsemanship competition begins. The patterns will be demonstrated by the reigning Lewiston Roundup Queen. PERSONALITY & APPEARANCE The purpose of this judged division is to select the young lady who rates the highest in: 1. Intelligence good common sense 2. Education knowledge of and conversational ability in rodeo and other areas with special emphasis on grammar and enunciation. 3. Attractiveness not necessarily to mean beauty in this sense, but rather that the contestant radiates self-confidence. She should also show maturity, high moral standards, sincerity, and integrity. 4. Genuine interest in other people in the pageant, and in rodeo and a noticeable consideration of others. 5. Self-projection the ability to project one s personality whether it be from horseback in the arena, on television, or before an audience. Other considerations include a sense of humor, showmanship, ambition, desire, and enthusiasm. 6. Sense of Humor/Outlook 7. Conversational ability Attractiveness 8. Grooming to include neatness and cleanliness in every detail such as complexion, use of cosmetics, hands, fingernails, hair, hat, boots and other apparel. Meticulous care in general grooming is essential. 9. Poise, posture, and lady-like behavior 10. Photogenic quality 11. Knowledge of proper western attire to include: a. Color coordination and proper fit b. Crease and shape of hat 8

c. Dresses, skirts, and blouses should reflect a western image. Evening gowns or cocktail type dresses are not permitted. d. Contestants are expected to appear in full western attire at all times unless otherwise specified. This includes Wrangler pants or jeans, dresses, skirts, blouses, jackets, hats, boots, belt. e. Dress should always be appropriate for the occasion. 12. Professionalism the contestant s ability to conduct herself in a professional manner in all aspects of competition. 13. Public Appearances the ability to speak to an audience in an interesting manner about facts, their state, rodeo, and more. JUDGED EVENTS SPEECH The purpose of this judged division is to select the contestant who rates highest in public speaking. 1. Each contestant is required to give a two-minute speech. A topic will be assigned. No props will be allowed. 2. Speeches will be timed. The judges will be given the length of each speech. It is important to keep to the time limit. 3. Speeches will be judged on content, delivery, personality, as well as organization and subject relevancy to required topic. 4. Use of microphone may or may not be available 5. Eye contact and projection to audience 6. Presentation should show Enthusiasm and Flair PRIVATE INTERVIEWS Each contestant will be interviewed privately at least once by the judges for a minimum of 10 minutes. Judging criteria includes: 1. Correct answers to questions related to knowledge of the pageant, knowledge of the Lewiston Roundup Association, Professional Rodeo World including PRCA and WPRA (including current standings, history & organization), rodeo terminology, explanation of rodeo events, equine knowledge (including tack, horse care, feeding, diseases, anatomy, etc.) & current events. 2. Appearance & Personality EXTEMPORANEOUS QUESTIONS Questions will be asked of each contestant during pageant functions. Questions may relate to the sport of professional rodeo and/or current events. Judging criteria includes: l. Ability to answer the question. 2. Delivery 3. Knowledge 4. Enunciation 5. Appearance & Personality: a. ability to relate to the audience b. sense of humor 9

APPENDIX A DRESS CODE FOR PAGEANT EVENTS Tentative Orientation: Horsemanship: Horsemanship Interview: Speech: Personal Interviews: ` Coronation Performance: This is an informational session, you will not be judged, wear comfortable clothing. Western pant product; form-fitting plain white blouse or shirt with long sleeves and no bling. No vests or jacket. Hat required. Same as Horsemanship Outfit. Dress or skirt outfit of choice. Must be of western style. Hat Required Same as Speech Western pant product; form-fitting blouse or shirt with long sleeves, any color. Hat Required. 10
