WORLD CUP 2018 A QUICK OVERVIEW World Cup mania is set to grip the nation in just a few weeks time, with 32 countries preparing to battle it out for the most prestigious accolade in football. The 2018 tournament will be held in Russia, the first time the country has ever hosted the event. As with most World Cups, it s the usual suspects that are often tipped as the eventual winners. And for the 2018 event, this is no different, with most people and pundits picking from the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France and Spain to lift the trophy on the 15th July. The key dates for your diary After an over-the-top opening ceremony, Russia will get the tournament underway at 4pm on 14 June when they play Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The group stages are expected to finish by 28 June, with the last 16 and knockout stages starting on 30 June. The final is set to take place on 15 July at 4pm at the Luzhniki Stadium. 14 June 28 June 15 July DID YOU KNOW? 3.2 billion people (almost half of the world s population) tuned in to watch the 2014 World Cup.
WORLD CUP PREDICTIONS We asked our management team for their tips on the eventual winners of the 2018 World Cup - do you agree with their thoughts? Simon Ashworth: Despite Manchester being my home city, I am not a football follower. But if pushed to name the winner of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, I would suggest Brazil or Germany, possibly France or Spain. And guess what, having decided to defer to the pundits, those are exactly the teams that are predicted to win the title. If any one of these 4 teams triumphed no one would be surprised. For me though, there s no fun putting money on the favourite, so I am going for the underdog team England! Apparently the team is a far cry from the Golden Generation that fell short in the 2000s and consequently the pressure of expectation simply does not exist. They have held their own in warm-up friendlies against Germany, Brazil, the Netherlands and Italy and on top of that England features three of the English Premier League s top five scorers in its side. I live in hope! Harish Gowrisunkar: Winner: Spain Rationale: Used to compete at the highest level. Team work preferred over individual stars. Nice blend of youth and experience. Focused and determined. Do these attributes not remind us of JW Seagon? Jeremy Clayton: England...because its 52 years since we won it and in my tea leaves reading today, the leaves said 52 years later England will win the World Cup! Honest!! Shakeel Hasanali Winner: Belgium Rationale: Always one for the underdog! Belgium have never won the World Cup nor a European Championship so no time like 2018 to buck the trend. They currently sit 3rd on FIFA s ranking and were the first European country to qualify.they now have the experience of Brazil 2014 under their belts with more or less the same players set to play in 2018. With star names like Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, it is totally viable for Diables Rouges golden generation to scoop football s greatest team prize! Daisy Oldenburg: Germany Having won 4 years ago in Brazil they will be determined to win a fifth title in Russia. They have an experienced team and an even more experienced coach who is in a great position to lead this team to victory. The Germans love winning and have every chance of taking home a trophy. I am also a little biased. David Seagon: I am going for Belgium, as they have some quality players, are a great outside bet, but most importantly they are the home to our Insurer partner Cigna in this exciting event. Please all of you join in the fun, and good luck to one and all.. DID YOU KNOW? The World Cup trophy went missing for 7 days in 1966, when it was stolen just prior to the tournament. MISSING
JW SEAGON & COMPANY INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE BROKERS TEAM PLAYER Eric Midigo JWS Customer Relationship Manager In April the insurer of the JWS Safari Plan changed from Bupa to Hollard Cigna. A change that required a fantastic amount of work to be done in a very short period of time. And whilst it was a team effort, one of the JWS Customer Relationship Managers, Eric Midigo, proved to be a linchpin and delivered a stellar performance in making the transfer a success. Eric took the lead in servicing over 500 Safari Plan customers, listening to their requirements and responding quickly with the right solutions. At the same time he quickly established excellent working relationships with the new partners and got to grips with new, unfamiliar ways of doing things. As he always does, Eric again showed great commitment to the job, staying until after midnight one evening to ensure customer documents were processed and dispatched on time. Eric s contribution and hard work in the JWS Safari Plan transfer and renewal are not only recognised internally within JWS but also by his customers. Extremely helpful and very professional are frequently used by customers to describe Eric and the pivotal role he played in ensuring the transition from Bupa to Cigna was faultless. And one customer simply said Eric is fantastic! His colleagues concur. Well done Eric DID YOU KNOW? The World Cup winning country is rumoured to see a baby boom 9 months after the World Cup!
