Wolfpack Girls Tennis Tournament Updates Wolfpack Finish 14 th at IHSA State Finals (10/21) The Wolf Pack finished 14th out of 53 teams at the State Finals and Tyra Richardson finished 8th overall in singles! Saint Ignatius was the top finishing school from the GCAC at the tournament (Loyola finished #22) and the second highest finishing team from Chicago (Whitney Young finished tied for #1 and won the State Championship). Tyra Richardson and Ivvy Hicks represented Saint Ignatius at the State Tournament this past weekend with both girls playing singles. Ivvy won her first round match against Cary-Grove 6-0, 6-2. In the second round, she ran into a tough opponent from Auburn HS, losing 2-6, 1-6. In the 2nd round of the consolation bracket, Ivvy won 6-0, 6-0 over Jacobs HS. In the 3rd round, she beat Marist HS 6-1, 1-6, 10-4 before losing a tough match in the 4th round against Hinsdale Central HS. Ivvy finishes the season with an impressive 27-5 record in singles and 5-0 record in doubles. Great season Ivvy! Tyra won 6-0, 6-1 against East HS in the 1st round of the tournament. In the 2nd round, she won 6-3, 6-2 over Elgin HS. In the 3rd round, Tyra ran into a very tough opponent from Wheaton Warrenville South HS. Trya lost the first set 1-6 before she came storming back to win the next set 6-3 and forced a third set. She battled back and forth before ultimately losing the third set 2-6. In the 4th round of the consolation bracket, Tyra won 6-0, 6-0 over Lake Park HS. In the 5th round, she took down Plainfield North's talented Freshman singles player 6-4, 6-3. This set up a quarterfinals match with Hinsdale South's Agata Mikos who is the #2 Junior in Illinois and the #81 Junior in the country. With a combination of smart play and incredible tenacity, Tyra won 6-3, 6-4. In the consolation semi-finals, Tyra faced off again with Wheaton Warrenville South's singles player that she faced in the 3rd round. Tyra lost a close match and is eyeing another rematch with her next year! Tyra finishes the season with an incredible 32-3 record in singles and 4-0 record in doubles. Way to go Tyra!

Wolfpack 2 nd at IHSA Sectional (10/14) The Wolfpack finished in second place behind Whitney Young at the Oak Park IHSA Sectional this weekend. Tyra Richardson and Ivvy Hicks finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the singles bracket, earning trips to the IHSA State Tournament next weekend! At 1st doubles, Abby Gupta and Jada Harris faced off with the #1 seed, Whitney Young's talented 1st doubles squad, in the first round. Abby and Jada battled back and forth and gave Whitney Young their hardest test of the tournament, losing 2-6, 3-6. It was a similar story at 2nd doubles as Ellie Smith and Abby Becker played Whitney Young's 2nd doubles team in the first round, losing 2-6, 2-6 to another tremendous doubles team. Whitney Young's 1st and 2nd doubles teams met each other in the finals. In singles, Tyra and Ivvy both cruised to the finals of the Sectional to set up an all-ignatius final. Tyra beat singles players from Lincoln Park, Morton, and Whitney Young leading up to the finals. She was perfect on route, dropping no games the entire way. Ivvy beat singles players from Riverside-Brookfield, Whitney Young, and Proviso East -- winning 30 of 32 games in the process. In the finals, Tyra edged out Ivvy 6-3, 6-1 in a very tight battle. Both girls were laser-focused during the match with hardly a word exchanged between each other. At the end of the match, in lieu of the customary post match handshake, the girls immediately hugged one another and began talking again. The Wolfpack will be back in action on Thursday as Tyra and Ivvy compete in the State Tournament up in Buffalo Grove, IL!

GCAC Champions!!! (10/7) The Wolfpack were crowned the 2017 Girls Catholic Athletic Conference champions on Saturday after marking the first conference title since 2012! On September 12th, the Wolfpack lost a close 2-3 match with Loyola, their lone loss of the season. The Pack was committed to improving and worked tirelessly in every single practice with all eyes set on October 7th as a chance at redemption. In the team huddle before the tournament began, senior co-captains Abby Gupta and Ellie Smith instructed the team to play their hearts out and affirmed that this was "our year." At 1st singles, Tyra Richardson faced Loyola in the semi-finals after receiving a 1st round bye. Tyra won 6-1, 6-1. In the finals, Tyra won 6-1, 6-1 over Fenwick, earning 6 team points for Saint Ignatius. Congratulations to Tyra Richardson for being named the 2017 GCAC Athlete of the Year! At 2nd singles, Ivvy Hicks faced Fenwick in the semi-finals after receiving a 1st round bye. Ivvy won 6-0, 6-0, setting up a finals match with Loyola's #2 singles player. Ivvy won 6-0, 6-2, earning 6 more team points for Saint Ignatius. Abby Gupta and Jada Harris played a tough 1st doubles team from Saint Francis in the semi-finals after receiving a 1st round bye. The Pack cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 win with dominating play. In the finals, Abby and Jada fought hard but lost 2-6, 2-6 to the Ramblers 1st doubles squad earning 4 team points for Ignatius. Ellie Smith and Abby Becker won 6-4, 6-0 over Mother McAuley in the 1st round, setting up a semi-finals match with Loyola's 2nd doubles squad -- the same team that beat them back on September 12th. Undeterred, Abby and Ellie were eager to have a different outcome today. After splitting the first 2 sets, Abby and Ellie found themselves down 2-4 in the 3rd set tiebreak. They clawed their way back to 6-all. With a match point for Ignatius at 10-9, Loyola hit a looping shot that landed short in the court. Ellie raced over and hit an angled backhand winner cross-court to finish the match. Abby and Ellie won 6-2, 2-6, 11-9. In the 2nd doubles final, Abby and Ellie matched up with Fenwick's high quality 2nd doubles squad. After splitting the first 2 sets, Abby and Ellie found themselves down 1-2 in the 3rd set. They pulled off yet another tremendous comeback as they reeled off the next 5 games to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Abby and Ellie earned 6 team points for Saint Ignatius. At 3rd doubles, Shannon Burke and Caroline Higginbottom earned a 1st round BYE as the #1 seeded team. They beat Mother McAuley 6-0, 7-5 in the semi-finals to set up a finals match with Loyola. Shannon and Caroline lost the 1st set 3-6 before they came roaring back, winning 6-4 in the 2nd set to force a 3rd set tiebreak. Loyola got out to a quick 5-0 lead in the tiebreak before Shannon and Caroline made another tremendous comeback that ultimately fell just short.
