We develop high performance solutions based on consultation with our customers. Long-term relationships built on trust is the basis of our work. BREAK-THRU Product Line Since 1992, our agricultural activities have expanded globally. The product line is comprised of specialty additives for the agricultural industry as tank mix adjuvants and in-can additives. The unique chemistry is based on both organomodified siloxanes and organic surfactants. Our experienced staff of plant physiologists and surfactant experts links biology and chemistry. Antifoams Evonik has in-depth experience at controlling foams in many industrial applications. Products for a variety of different formulations are available. Additionally, Evonik can recommend low foaming surfactants.
Introduction In agricultural chemicals, different surface active chemistries are used to produce specific, desired effects such as wetting, emulsification, dispersing, compatibilizing, etc. One characteristic of these surface active agents, due to their tendency concentrate at interfaces, is that they can aid in the formation of foams, in some instances creating very stable foam structures. Foaming can occur during manufacturing and packaging, but the majority of the problems occur during field applications and it is usually first noticed when the spray tank is opened for refilling. phase compatibility due to their organic modification, while still maintaining their efficiency as antifoams. Since individual formulations contain different actives, solvents and surfactants, a universal solution to the problem does not exist. BREAK-THRU AF antifoam agents are very robust in their performance and are used in a variety of commercial applications. In-house laboratory evaluations for your candidate formulations are also available. Please contact us to discuss your specific application. While silicone oils make excellent defoamers, they are not miscible in waterbased systems. To overcome this obstacle, Evonik has synthesized a line of defoamer/antifoam products with the BREAK- THRU AF designation. These organomodified siloxane (OMS) antifoams allow for Products Product Name Chemical Base Physical state Active [%] Listing Status* Antifoams EPA** TSCA EINECS BREAK-THRU AF 9901 OMS liquid 100 BREAK-THRU AF 9902 OMS liquid 100 BREAK-THRU AF 9903 OMS liquid 100 BREAK-THRU AF 9904 OMS & mineral oil liquid 100 BREAK-THRU AF 9905 OMS liquid 100 BREAK-THRU AF 9906 Silicone oil liquid 100 BREAK-THRU AF 9907 OMS liquid 35 40 Low Foaming Surfactants BREAK-THRU Twin OMS liquid 100 BREAK-THRU Superb OMS liquid n.a. Characteristics AICS China De-aerator for SC formulations with additional antifoam performance. Antifoam for solvent based in-can formulations. Suitable for water based formulations, in particular for glyphosate, easily dilutable with water. Not water dispersible, suitable for microemulsions. Free of silicone oil. Highly compatible, hence suitable for formulations. Medium viscous antifoam concentrate without emulsifier for non-aqueous or solvent based systems. Electrolyte tolerant antifoam with possible use in oil based systems. De-aerator, wetting & dispersing agent. Combination of antifoam and super spreader equates to improved biological performance. Enhanced deposition due to low dynamic surface.
Test Methods Introduction The following tests are standards that we use to evaluate antifoam performance. It is important to conduct a test based on the same protocol because within a given test even subtle variations can lead to significant differences in antifoam performance. Shaking Test (CIPAC MT 47) The quickest way to obtain information about foaming and screening antifoams. A graduated cylinder is filled partially with a tank mix dilution of a formulation at its recommended rate and inverted 30 times. Foam is noted at certain intervals. Consider that shaking instead of inverting generates significantly more shear. Circulating Pump Test We use this method for the evaluation of antifoams in formulations. In a graduated cylinder, a solution is added to a certain height. The solution is recirculated through a pump from the bottom of the cylinder and re-introduced at the cylinder s top. Ross Miles Test (ASTM D 1173) The spray solution is released from a reservoir into a graduated cylinder. Only gravitational force is applied, nothing else.
