Part 2: Milton Ranch Historical Park Travel through time and see how two families lived and worked on an Oklahoma ranch for more than 150 years. Henry and Nancy Smith arrived in Oklahoma in about 1830 and started a ranch here. You can visit their farm and see how Nancy cooked and made clothes, and how Henry looked after the cows and horses. They only had little money and a few animals in 1830. Then visit the house of J.H.P. Hamilton and his wife, Belle. They lived here from 1896. They had a big house with a lot of bedrooms for the men who worked on the ranch. Outside the house was a big garden for potatoes and other vegetables. There were smaller houses for the horses and other animals. The Hamilton family had chickens and pigs. You can see where the men made shoes for the horses. When Mr. Hamilton and his wife lived here, Milton Ranch had about 8000 cows. Many cowboys worked on the ranch. They looked after the cows, of course, and when the cows were big enough, the cowboys took them to the railway station. The cows went to the market on trains. Most cowboys were black not like the white cowboys in all the films and they got about $ 2 for a day s work. If your re hungry, don t miss the Dinner Belle Café. It s open on weekdays from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm and at weekends from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm. The Café offers good old Oklahoma food.
