September 6th is the kick off night, and it will last until the following Friday, September 13th. This year JL Mann will be doing something that's never been done before. In the spirit of healing, we will join forces with Greenville High School to raise funds for The Cancer Survivors Park, a new interactive and therapeutically healing park being built along the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Downtown Greenville. This park will help ALL those affected by cancer: patients and the friends and families who are all survivors! Along with supporting The Cancer Survivors Park, a small portion of our funds will also be used to support the Challenge Day and After School Transportation Programs at JL Mann. Though the thought of Patriots and Raiders coming together may seem odd, the competition to raise the most money has never been as serious as it is now that we will be beside each other at some events during the week. Our totals will still be presented as two separate checks like all years passed and kept secret until that final, nerve-wracking Friday night when the totals will be shared at halftime of the football game against GHS All week long there will be places to eat breakfast and dinner; the restaurants give us a percent of the proceeds from that morning or night so you don't have to worry about cooking all week!! Lunches will also be offered, so send money to school every day!!!
Every day has a dress up theme, so make sure your outfits are perfect; we will be looking for the best of the best! Friday, September 6 th : The week will begin with Color Wars, a Kick- Off Assembly then Midnight Bowling at AMF lanes from 10 pm 12 am followed by eating at Waffle House. We know this will be a late night, but we want to make every second of this week count! Saturday, September 7th: We will be holding a timed 5k at Mann. Follow the link to sign up: www.go-greenevents.com/survivorspark5k. Plato s Closet of Greenville is hosting the day for us so come out and shop there all day! Slippery Saturday is a huge event held at the Spaulding Farms Club House Saturday afternoon, there will be oversized slip n slides, mud wrestling, and shaving cream fights! To round the night up at the "Hoe down Throw down" at Mann, this will be a dance where line dancing and shagging will occur! Joy of Tokyo and Twisted Cup will be our restaurants of choice, all day!
Sunday, September 8th: Wake up and come get your car washed at either Burger King on Laurens Rd. if you want to support the seniors or Strossner s on Roper Mountain Rd. if you want to support the underclassman! The Colors of Cancer run is an event that will be hosted by Mann AND Greenville! Runners will begin at Mann and end at GHS. Powdered chalk will be thrown at runners as they pass a station! Ending the night, a candle light vigil for the Antonokas Family and other families and students lost in the past tragic events will be held at the memorial garden at Mann at 8 pm. Monday, September 9th: This will be the most intense event all week the Dodgeball Tournament AGAINST Greenville High! Held at GHS, almost every Mann team will go up against a GHS team at some point! All parents are encouraged to attend, so we can have a big audience pumping these boys and girls up! Make sure to enter through the Mann entrance, though! Olympian Grill in Five Forks is our restaurant for the night! Tuesday, September 10th: Parents and students, this event will surely make you laugh out loud! The Date Auction held in the Mann auditorium! Parents and girls come with your money to bid on your favorite boys! Quaker Steak and Lube AND Your Pie Pizza will be restaurants for the night! Wednesday, September 11th: Powder Puff Football has just recently been added to our calendar! Girls sign up with their grade team and boys will coach! This will take place behind the baseball stadium on the new fields. A movie night at Camelot showing the movie Planes will be held as well!! Fire House and Moes are the restaurants for the night! The biggest event of the week is the silent auction!!!
The Silent Auction: Will take place from 7-9:30 at Spaulding Farms Club House! It is an adult only event because alcohol will be provided. There are baskets to bid on, a live auction to auction off beach houses, as well as a "luck of the draw" for a Nook and ipad!!!! You do not want to miss this event!!!! Thursday, September 12th: The JV game will be held at Mann this year! Before, During, and After - each class will have their own Tailgate set up where you can decide which class to buy food from! The class with the most money at the end of the night wins!! After the game, walk straight over to the Raider Roast bon fire held behind the Softball fields! $5 to enter! Friday, September 13th: The week will end at halftime of the Mann vs. Greenville Football game at Sirrine Stadium! We will reveal the total raised for the week during halftime, GET EXCITED!!! All week T-shirts, bandannas, bracelets, and more will be sold during lunch, in between classes, and during some classes! So make sure you are sending your child with some money as the food and shirts go quick and are always huge hits!! Thanks for your support and help!
Week Long Activities Jail and Bail Ever wanted to put your best friend in jail?? NOW'S YOUR CHANCE!!! When called to stop, if the number you are standing on gets chose, take a cake of your choice back to your table for a dessert feast for everyone at your table! Class Challenges Listen during FIRST PERIOD for YOUR individual class to be challenged to raise money for Spirit Week!! Teacher Dress Down Week (pay this week and dress down for an entire week in November) $40=Jeans and a collared shirt for an entire week! $50=Jeans and a t-shirt for an entire week! $75=Jeans and a Mann collared shirt on Fridays for the rest of the year! Penny Wars (during all three lunches) Put pennies in your class s designated bucket during lunch to win! Sabotage the other grades buckets by putting silver change and bills into their buckets, because those are NEGATIVE POINTS!!! THE GRADE WITH THE MOST PENNIES WINS AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE PEP RALLY FRIDAY! Spirit Week 2013 Benefitting Charities The Cancer Survivors Park Visit www.cancersurvivorspark.org for more information! Challenge Day The Challenge Day mission is to provide youth and their communities with experiential programs that demonstrate the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth, and full expression. Challenge Day is a 6 1/2 hour experiential program, in which two highly-trained, passionate Leaders from the San Francisco Bay Area are sent to our school to lead a workshop for 100 students and 25 or more adults, including teachers, staff and community members. As request from many students, staff, and parents we will hold Challenge Day at Mann again in the 2013 school year! After School Transportation Program Since being founded last year the Transportation Program has allowed many students in our school to stay after for tutoring sessions and extra-curricular activities who had not been able to stay before due to the need for provided transportation. From Spirit Week funds buses were provided so that those students that were not able to participate before were given the same opportunities as everyone else. We have seen great progress as a school from this program.
