SBR Blues Annual Tournament 2017 Tournament Rules May 26 th 28 th, 2017 1. RESPECT a. Coaches and players are encouraged to be courteous and respect the umpires decisions and the opposing player s talents. b. Umpires decisions are final. Absolutely no protests. 2. Warm Up: No infield warm ups 3. Metal Cleats: No metal cleats will be permitted for play. 4. Home/Visitor: a. Round Robin Games Coin toss will determine home team. b. Playoffs Games The higher placing team from the round robin standings will be the home team. In the event the two teams were tied in their age division a coin toss will take place at home plate prior to the start of the game by the plate umpire. 5. Line Up Cards: Must be completed in full prior to the game starting. White copy goes to the plate umpire, one copy goes to the other team and one copy stays with your team. 6. Universal Substitution or ABC Rules in effect per the CMSA Rulebook (See Rules page on SBRsoftball.com) Unlimited Substitutions; Everyone bats 7. Player Pick Ups: if teams are picking up players for this tournament players must be present on your roster; players not on team s official rosters may be disqualified from playing. Also, teams are not allowed to pick up players from higher divisions (division 2 teams picking up division 1 players; pee wee teams picking up bantam players). 8. GAMES a. U10, U12, U14 pitchers can only pitch a maximum of 4 innings per game b. One pitch constitutes an inning pitched. c. All Pitchers at all age categories must wear a protective face mask when pitching, d. We strongly recommend all infielders wear a mask as well. e. NO open innings. f. If the game is declared over by the umpire due to the time limit being reached, the score will revert back to last completed inning. g. If the home team is ahead in any inning started after the No New Inning start time, they will not take their bats. h. All games must start on time.
9. Run Ahead Rules: (Same as Softball Canada) 15 runs after 2 and 1 /2 complete innings 7 runs after 4 and 1 /2 complete innings 10. Round Robin Game Time Limits: a. U10 games will be 1 hour and 30 minute hard stop with no new inning to start after 1 hour and 15 minutes after game start time as determined by the umpire. b. U12, U14 and High School: 7 innings games 1 hour and 45 min time limit with a hard stop and no new inning to start after 1 hour and 30 minutes. c. Umpire to monitor the scheduled start and finish. Once the game is 1 hour and 45 minutes old, the umpire will call the game regardless of circumstances. The score will revert to the last completed inning. When the home team is leading while at bat in the final inning, the game is complete and will not finish their bats d. If the game is declared over by the umpire due to the time limit being reached, the score will revert back to last completed inning. e. If the home team is ahead in any inning started after the final inning start time, they will not take their bats. f. In the interest of time, if your team has 2 outs and your catcher is on base, please substitute the player furthest away from coming to bat so the catcher can get their equipment on. ALL GAMES MUST START AND END ON TIME. 11. Playoff Time Limits a. The round robin game time limits will apply with the following exceptions. b. For all playoff games, EXEPT FINAL GAMES, any inning started before the No new inning time will be allowed an additional 15 minutes to complete the inning. For example: Semi-final game. New inning started 1 hour and 25 minutes after game start time. Inning will be completed if finished before the 2-hour mark after the game start time. IF the 2-hour time limit is reached and the inning is not over, the current inning is declared over and the score reverts to the last complete inning score. c. FOR ALL FINAL GAMES there will be no hard stop time. Any inning started before the No new inning time limit will be played to completion and be the final inning. 12. U10, U12, U14 ***MAXIMUM 4 RUNS PER INNING***
13. HIGH SCHOOL ***MAXIMUM 5 RUNS PER INNING*** 14. U10 and U12 - No Dropped third strike / infield fly / charged conferences. 15. Dugout Etiquette: Upon completion of your games, please vacate the dugout immediately so that the teams playing after you can get prepared. We would also ask that you keep the dugouts neat and tidy for the next team to use. 16. Games Called by the Umpire: if an inning cannot be completed because of weather conditions or time limits, the final score will be the score recorded for the last complete inning played unless the home team has the lead at while at bat, and is thus declared the winner. If the home team has won the game, it is the score at completion of the game that is used for Runs For and Against calculation. 17. Tie Games: For round robin games games tied when a game is completed will be considered complete and tie will NOT be played out. For play off games games tied at the completion of the allotted number of innings or the time limit must be played out to declare a winner. The next inning and any subsequent inning will be played under the international Tie Breaker rule as per the Softball Canada Rulebook. 18. Points for Games: Round Robin games Win: 2 points, Tie 1 point, Loss no points 19. Scoresheets: BOTH teams are required to text a legible picture of their scoresheets to the Tournament Coordinator at 403-605-2822. BOTH teams are to retain their scoresheets for possible submission to the Tournament Committee upon request. 20. Advancing to the Playoff Round: If teams are tied in the standings at the completion of the Round Robin games a tiebreaker game will NOT be played. Ties will be broken using the following method in order: a. Win Loss Record between tied teams. b. The difference between runs for and against of all games played by the tied teams. c. The highest number of total runs scored by the teams in all games played by the tied teams. d. The lowest number of total runs allowed by the teams in all game played by the tied teams. e. A coin toss. 21. Confirming Teams Advancing to Playoff Rounds: Please check your draw carefully to determine whether your team is advancing. Teams will NOT be phoned to confirm whether you advance to playoffs. a. Draws will be posted at Vista and Deerfoot Park. b. Playoff draws will be posted at sbrsoftball.com
c. FINAL GAMES ONLY: IF AGREED UPON BY BOTH PARTICIPATING TEAMS, UMPIRES AND TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE, FINAL GAMES ONLY MAY START AT A TIME OTHER THAN WHAT IS POSTED ON MAIN SCHEDULE. 22. Other Playing Rules: The Calgary Minor Softball Rules shall apply unless altered by these rules. Any rule not covered in these rules or the Calgary Minor Softball rules shall be determined by following the Softball Canada Rulebook. 23. The Tournament Committee shall have final say on all unsettled disputes. RAIN OUT OR OTHER UNFORESEEN CANCELLATION OF THE TOURNAMENT: EVERY effort will be made to complete the event!!! Regardless of weather conditions your team must go to the diamond and be prepared to play your scheduled games. Where possible, your team will be contacted where any rescheduling is known in advance. Only the Tournament Committee will cancel the Tournament due to weather conditions. Tournament Refund Policy In the event the tournament is cancelled after the first set of games are played, no refund will be issued.
UNIVERSAL SUBSTITUTION is the rotation of players into the field such that ALL players participate in EVERY game. In any given game, unless due to injury or illness, each player will be present in the batting order. In any given game, no one player shall sit out more than one consecutive inning of play. Defensive rotation is defined such that no player shall sit more than one inning until all players have had an inning on the bench (strictly enforced). Batting order all players present are listed on the score sheet and bat in the order listed. Players arriving late are added to the end of the batting order, and will have their designated bench order inning assigned or arranged as necessary (strictly enforced). Players are designated with the order in which they will have their bench inning on the line up card/score sheet (use best effort) Player Coding Adjustment bench inning designation may be changed to allow for substitution in the event of an injury, ejection, discipline, pitcher substitution. In the event of player ejection or removal, the player is removed from the batting order and may not re-enter.
