Team HISTORY Deion Sanders The relationship between Louisville and baseball dates back over 120 years Baseball has some of its deepest roots embedded in Louisvilleas the River City was an original member of the National League. Hall of Famers Honus Wagner and Carlton Fisk played here as did Kentucky native Pee Wee Reese. The Louisville Redbirds became the first Minor League team in history to have one million fans in one season, accomplishing the feat in 1983. By being the first franchise to break the one million mark in attendance, Louisville set the stage for the renaissance of Minor League baseball s popularity which continues to escalate today. Much has transpired in regards to professional baseball in Louisville since the early days of the 1980 s. Cardinal Stadium was vacated for the state-of-the-art Louisville Slugger Field which opened in 2000. After a 16-year working agreement with the St. Louis Cardinals, the franchise became the top farm club of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1998 followed by the Cincinnati Reds in 2000. The team name has changed from the Redbirds to the RiverBats and then to the Bats since the franchise s inception in 1982. Though the team has experienced a number of changes, one thing that remains constant is this area s affinity for professional baseball. An affiliation with the Cincinnati Reds complemented the opening of Louisville Slugger Field perfectly in that the interest generated was not limited to a local level. Fans continue to frequently travel from all over Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and beyond to see the future stars of the Cincinnati Reds. Whereas Louisville baseball is an affordable family entertainment option, Louisville Slugger Field is a reason fans keep coming back for more. Louisville Slugger Field has a charisma all of its own as it blends the aura of baseball s storied past with modern-day amenities to maximize the pleasure of the common fan. This Jewel Box of a ball park was put on display to a National Television Audience on July 16, 2008 when the Bats hosted the 2008 Triple-A All- Star Game and played the game on ESPN 2. And if the numbers through the years are any indication, the fans certainly agree. The Louisville Bats have led the International League in attendance each of the nine seasons that Louisville Slugger Field has been open averaging over 630,000 each of those seasons. The relationship between Louisville and the national pastime dates back over 120 years. By offering affordable ticket prices to watch the top farm club of the Cincinnati Reds play at a top-notch facility such as Slugger Field, fans have come out in droves. Judging by the area s affinity for baseball, there is little doubt there is much more history to be made. Jay Bruce Terry Pendleton PHOTOS BY STAN DENNY / SPORTSIMAGE DEMOGRAPHICS & TEAM HISTORY

The Louisville Slugger Field experience only begins with the facility itself. It s the sights, sounds, smells and entertainment value that has kept fans coming through the turnstiles since the stadium s opening. Just as important to the experience is the fact Louisville Slugger Field appeals to fans of all ages. A children s playground and carousel is located in right field with the zany mascot, Buddy Bat, never far away. If you are looking to entertain important clientele, Louisville Slugger Field can exceed your expectations with luxury suite availability and the capability to cater any event. In short, while the stadium is best described as first class and state-ofthe-art, it is the whole experience surrounding a Louisville Bats game which makes the team a perennial attendance leader in minor league baseball!
