SHORE CONFERENCE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT 2017 MEMO TO: FROM: Principals, Athletic Directors and Coaches Tom Ridoux, Tournament Director The following is a format to be used for the SHORE CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAY- OFFS: A. GENERAL INFORMATION: 1. All games will be governed by the NATIONAL FEDERATION SOFTBALL RULES with NJSIAA and SHORE CONFERENCE modifications. 2. No school is obligated to enter the play- offs. 3. Those schools wishing to participate must schedule a maximum of 25 games to adhere to the limit. This is a single elimination tournament. 4. All officials for the SCT games shall be selected by the Tournament Director in conjunction with the Shore Umpires Association. 5. Letter of Intent All Shore Conference member schools, if qualified, shall participate in all Conference Tournaments unless they file with the conference secretary before the official NJSIAA date for the regular schedule April 1 st. B. TOURNAMENT DATES, SITES AND POSTPONED DATES 1. The Pre- Preliminary Rd. (outside of 16) must be completed on or before Saturday, May 20 th. Games will be played at the highest seeded team s field and said team shall be the home team 2. The Preliminary Rd. (Rd. of 16) must be completed by Saturday, May 27 th. Games will be played at the highest seeded team s field. 3. The Quarter final round will be played by Wednesday, May 31 st, at the highest seeded team s field and said team shall be the home team. 4. The Semi- Final round will be played by Saturday, June 3 rd, at Wall High School higher seeded team shall be the home team. Lower Bracket game will be played at 11:00am. Higher Bracket game will begin at 1:00pm. The visitor will have first choice of dugouts. 5. The CHAMPIONSHIP GAME will be played on Wednesday, June 7 th at Wall High School (Rain Date, Thursday June 8 th, starting time is 4:00 PM. Please note: a. Prior to the Championship Game a coin toss will take place by the Tournament Director or designee. This will determine who will be the Home Team and who will be the Visiting Team. The team that loses the coin toss will have first choice of dugouts. b. Pre- game warm ups will be: Visiting Team first 3:25 3:40pm, Home Team second 3:40 3:55pm (15 minutes each). This will be strictly enforced by the Home Plate Umpire and Tournament Director as directed by the Shore Conference Executive Committee. 6. PLAYING CONDITIONS: If the home team cannot provide a field to play on by the tournament due date, they have the option to either find another field they call home or they must travel to the visitor s home field. If for some reason the visitor s field is not playable then both teams must notify the tournament director and a field and location will be assigned (on the specified date). The home team will continue to be the home team no matter where they play. 7. POSTPONEMENTS The tournament director must be notified when a play- off game: a. conflicts with a state tournament b. is rained out c. cannot be played due to poor field conditions. d. Tie games or games called before game is official, shall be replayed as a complete game with no change in the home team. An official game is 4 ½ innings. Tie- games that go beyond nine full innings shall use the NFHS- INTERNATIONAL TIE- BREAKER RULE starting the tenth inning of play.
8. RAIN DATES Preliminary Rd. - Monday, May 22nd, Rd. of 16 - Monday May 29 th,.. Quarter Final Thursday, June 1st Semi- final(s) Sunday, June 4 th (Lower bracket 11:00pm/1:00pm) at Wall HS, Finals Thursday, June 8 th C. ENTRY FEE There will be an entry fee of $80.00 to cover the cost of umpires for the championship game, an award, and expenses for the director and site director. Only those teams who qualify will be charged an entry fee. TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURES, SEEDING MEETING DATE AND SITE 1. The cut- off date for selection shall be the day prior to the seeding meeting. 2. Seeding will be conducted on Monday evening, May 15 th, at Wall High School at 7:00PM in RM- B- 7. 3. The tournament will be open to all teams with a record of.500 or better, the winners will be determined on the basis of single elimination. 4. The tournament will include all Division champions, co- champs and tri- champs. No team will be guaranteed a seeded position. 5. It is the responsibility of the competing schools to make any schedule adjustments that might be necessary to insure representation from the six divisions. If divisional representative cannot make the meeting, they must contact the tournament director so that he may contact another divisional coach to attend the seeding meeting. 6. All teams must adhere to Rule 14 section 7 of the sport regulations regarding the maximum number of games. (NJSIAA Constitution, Bylaws, Rules and Regulations). Any team that cannot compete in the tournament thru the final game because of the total number of games/scrimmages will not be selected for participation in the tournament. E. NAMES OF THE SEEDING COMMITTEE 1. The teams will be seeded by a seeding committee. The members of the committee will be one head coach from each of the divisions, as chosen by the tournament director. F. UMPIRES 1. Umpires will be assigned by the SHORE UMPIRES assignor in conjunction with the Tournament Director. The home team will pay for the umpires for all rounds except the SEMIFINAL AND FINAL rounds of play. a). In the first three rounds of the Shore Conference Tournament it is the responsibility of the home team to schedule and pay the officials. The Shore Conference shall pay the officials in the semi- final round and the championship game. 2.. PLEASE forward your original pre- season Umpires List to tournament director. If you need to change one or more of your previous pre- season umpire selections please use the preferred tournament umpire list enclosed and we will make the change. Lists not completed properly will not be used in the tournament. UMPIRE lists must be sent in no later than noon on the date of the seeding meeting, Monday May 15 th. G. MEDIA INFORMATION The winning team is responsible for notifying the Asbury Park Press, The Newark Star Ledger, The Ocean County Observer, and any other news service. H. EQUIPMENT NEEDS SOFTBALLS- The official softball of the Shore Conference Tournament, as approved by the Executive Committee, will be a NFHS.47 yellow optic core ball with.325 compression. The home team may choose to use the yellow optic.44 core ball. Each home team will provide three balls for each round of the tournament. If for some reason, the home team doesn t have at least (2) new game balls, the lower seeded team may provide them. The Shore Conference provides the game balls for the finals only.
I. AWARD 1. The SHORE CONFERENCE Tournament Director will present an award, a SCT- Championship plaque to the championship team. IX. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITY 1. Each school is responsible for its own transportation. 2. Athletic directors are responsible for the care of the playing field and crowd control when the game is played at their field, and any extra cost that is incurred. CHANGE OF DATES 3. SCHOOLS ENTERING THE TOURNAMENT WILL NOT BE GRANTED A CHANGE OF DATE DUE TO ANY CONFLICTS WITH SCHOOL TRIPS, DANCES, BANQUETS, TESTING PROGRAMS AND PROMS. 4.
