Proposed : PF Seconded : JL There were no matters arising. 4. Management 5. Captains No Management was forthcoming Proposed : Seconded : The Annual Captains dinner was held on the 23 rd March which I would like to thank everyone who attended making it a most enjoyable evening. The golfing season is upon us with the start of the Club team competitions on the 7 th April. it was the 1 st round of the jubilee cup with a home tie against the Warren which saw another great start to the campaign for Gary Ambrose and his team with a 7 ½ - 1 ½ victory. Unfortunately the jubilee team lost 5 4 in their 2 nd round match away to Harwich & Dovercourt. Their next match is at home to Crondon Park. Thornton Cup 8 th April 1 st round lost 8 7 to East Herts. I would like to congratulate our team for all their efforts on the day, especially when half our team were Leslie Wood players. East Herts have since been disqualified which means we now have a very tough 2 nd round match away to Rochford on 6 th May. On the same day the Norman Plumb team lost to Basildon 3-0 at home and 2-1 away. On 22 nd April the Leslie Wood team had a narrow victory of 8 7 against Abridge. Well done to Gary Romang and his team and good luck in their next round on 20 th May away to Playgolf Colchester. Curry cup 1 st match away to Benton Hall lost 11-7, 2 nd match is home to Stapleford Abbotts on 12 th May. I would like wish Mark Lopez good luck for their upcoming fixtures. The Four Nations which was cancelled in February has now been re scheduled for 13 th of May instead of the Captain vs Vice Captain which also had to be rescheduled to later this year as Iain Bray is unavailable. Proposed :RC Seconded : JL 1
Item 6. Lady Captains 7. Treasurer s Finance s and Discussion Ladies section is starting to get busy now that the weather has improved, gradually catching up with competitions that had to be cancelled. We have played & won our first two Bronze Matches, a great start. Unfortunately due to lack of interest the Belated Easter Mixed Bowl scheduled for 7 th May has had to be cancelled, being replaced by a fun event for those who had already signed up. Have entered Three Rivers into the MacMillan 2018 Longest Day Golf Challenge (72 holes), already quite a few from the ladies section interested in taking part, 22 nd June is the date we have in the diary and this event is open to all members and guests. Nothing further to report at this time. Proposed : SW Seconded KM As at 30 th April 2018, there is an excess of income over expenditure of 1369.86 There has been no other activity since my last report. I have a couple of invoices outstanding to Anglian Awards totaling approximately 200. With regard to the Men s and Ladies Captains Charity, to date the members have raised a total of 1106.20. A further 2216.42 is held by the Ladies Section which brings the total so far raised to 3,322.62. 8. Honours Boards A detailed listing of the individual honours boards is currently being prepared and will be sent to Anglian Awards shortly to provide a cost estimate. However, I will need details of the Ladies missing from the current boards Proposed : KM Seconded: RC 2
Item 9. Handicap Secretary s s and Discussion General observations Nothing of consequence to report. No Returns, significant card errors, and, failure to enter score via computer touch-screen The poor weather has limited the number of Qualifying competitions but returns have generally been acceptable. The marked anomaly occurred in Sunday s round of the Spring Bowl. There were only 10 entrants which is bad enough, but, 6 of those failed to satisfactorily post a recordable score. This resulted in the competition being rendered a Reduction-only round. Extremely disappointing and totally unacceptable hence the harsh words at the foot of the posted Results Sheet. No apologies have been received from any of the offending participants. World Handicap System (WHS) On Thursday of last week Peter, Ruth and I attend an Englandgolf presentation on the progress being made. There is a significant amount of work to be undertaken but everything is being geared to the implementation of the WHS in early 2020. It would seem that the education process for club s and their members is being scheduled for the autumn of 2019. It was confirmed at the meeting that club s should not rush to get their Scorecards reprinted prior to 2020 as additional information will need to be included on the card. This information will not be released to clubs until the autumn of 2019. Handicap Committee administration issues Nothing of significance to report. Course Measurement Certificate and Certificate of Standard Scratch Score Despite some outstanding issues with the recently produced Course Measurement Certificates I have received confirmation from Englandgolf that they will accept the certificates, currently in our possession, as they stand. A decision needs to be made whether we are happy with the work undertaken by Graham Curtis and subsequently action needs to be taken to finalise the issue. Any Other Business 1) Reinstatement of the White Posts to signify Out of Bounds, particularly on the 5 th Hole. No stakes have yet been put in place. I have repeated below the point Phil Kirkham made about White posts with black tops. Out of Bounds markers should differentiate between markers that physically define any OOB and those that merely indicate the presence of OOB. Apparently the R&A approved method is to use White posts to define OOB and White posts with black tops to indicate the presence of OOB. Proposed : JL Seconded : RC 3
Item 10. Seniors 11. Cadet Organiser s 12. Jubilee Representative s and Discussion The Seniors Spring Cup and the first friendly match of the year against The Burstead were both cancelled due to the prolonged inclement weather. The friendly fixture away at Stockbrook on 18 th April was a loss 5.5 to 2.5. Some of our regular team members were taking time off in Portugal having a good time so the poor result is probably their fault. The first round of the Summer Stableford best 3 from 5 scores competition took place on Wednesday 25 th April with 59 entrants. A very good start to a competition that is always very well supported. The Seniors registered members now stands at 116. There are some others waiting in the wings looking to join which will increase our numbers even further. Proposed : PF Seconded : SW There was nothing to report. Proposed: Seconded: The course is holding up well but still wet, green are good and stay mainly dry. The winter maintenance has improved the course, thanks go to green keeping staff. Again due to poor weather we have lost the first few competitions this year, things will improve and normal golf, whatever that is, will be resumed. 13. Press Officers Proposed : PG Seconded : DR Newsletter Our May newsletter was published on Thursday 26 th April, a little later than planned. As only 4 days have elapsed no final readership numbers are currently available. So far we have had 310 views. The newsletter incorporated a number of articles relating to social events and golfing away breaks. This, I believe, helps to show that being a club member offers something more than simply turning up at the club and playing. My thanks go to all those who submitted and helped with articles. At some time in the near future I will, with the help of Ian Bullock, be issuing an extra newsletter relating to the introduction of the rule changes being introduced in January 2019. This will include videos and links to the R&A. Web-site Hits on our web-site continue to remain high. During April (up to the 27 th ) we had an average of over 140 hits per day. This, it should be remembered was a period where we did not publish a newsletter which in itself tends to significantly increase the number of hits. One possible explanation for this high rate maybe linked to out Twitter Account (see below). Twitter Account With the help of the Pro-shop we have been keeping members up-to-date on course condition during the recent spells of bad weather. Our Twitter Followers have grown from around 45 to close to 100. This may not sound a lot but it should be remembered that members of a certain age group do not tend to have Twitter accounts. This group tends to view the Tweets via the web-site and are therefore not counted as Followers. Proposed: RC Seconded: JL 4
Item 14. Head Professional's s and Discussion 1. A quiet time Coaching with the weather and lack of covered facilities impacting Junior Coaching. 2. I suggested to Craig a few months ago the new idea of a mini Junior membership which will encourage my large Saturday group to progress. I am unsure of the viability and thoughts of Management. I have a structure of which this membership could take. 3. My on going Junior development is progressing very well & have a number of events to drive our section but the communication has not been forthcoming. 4. The Sunday proposed groups have not been delivered, I am unsure of the arrangements with Warren Sargeant but he currently coaches at Two venues. 5. I am happy for Ashdon as a trainee to help me with the school delivery which I have contacts for so I will speak with him upon my return if he wants to be involved. 6. I have been selected to Coach at the Richo Womens British Open at Royal St Lytham offering the public free coaching during the week. 7. Jo Stentiford won the Lombard Qualifier with 35 pts in awful weather so all is arranged for the Regional Finals in June. 8. A reminder of tee closures June 5th WPGA Day 9. July 26th Kings course closed I suggested a notice be made public as not in the diary but have not seen anything as yet. I posted on Ladies site so they are aware. 10. I have been revoted WPGA committee with further news TBA when passed. 11. My Mens groups have been very popular with further groups scheduled. Ladies members groups cancelled but my weekend groups are very popular. I offer regular groups for new players as in the past 10yrs! 12. I will be playing in the Regional Pro ams but it would be good to take a few teams of members to show our support so if anyone is interested please let me know 13. Unfortunately Dave is unavailable for the final of Capt Pro so the rules permit the Vice Capt so I will ask Ian if he would like to enter Unfortunately one of the girls who I coach & joined has joined another club but I will still be coaching her. She is in my County Squad and making great strides. Ivy is currently using Three Rivers as her home club but has joined another venue which is ideal for her development Proposed: DR Seconded: PG 15. Any Other Business RC Felt that there was insufficient advertising of club competitions. Would we be able to advertise competitions in the changing rooms? Speak with Steve to see if he would be happy for competition notices to be put in Changing Rooms. RC - Start Friday night competitions 9 holes late May early June. NS This has been started. KM Captains Charity how much is it to name a puppy ( 5,000) as if we raise sufficient money we could name one if not two puppies. NS to advise options. SW Sharon is doing the Three Peaks Walk (Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike). She is looking for sponsors and requires sheets to do this. NS provided all the forms needed and this was put round most of the schools. Good luck Sharon. KM - It was agreed to change the signatories to the club bank accounts. NS to get forms from the bank to take John Smith and Ted Langley off the signatory list and add Keith McMullon and one other. RC The Keating Trophy will be held at Three Rivers next year. RC will let the club know the dates as it will mean tee closures over two day days (Sat/Sun). Date of next meeting: Monday 11 th June 2018 at 6.30pm Signed Chairman 5
