Concert Etiquette PARENTS* Please turn all cell phones to the off or silent position. Do not enter or leave while a group is performing. Do not text. Do not listen to other music. Please give campers the respect they deserve by giving the concert your full attention. 1

The following locations will be used on a daily basis: Snow Fine Arts Center/SFAC (Sectionals, Morning, and Afternoon Activities) Ida Waldron Auditorium (Rehearsals) Bear Hall (Dorm, Activity Check In) Christian Cafeteria (Meals) Main Hall, aka, Old Main (Quintet Rehearsal Area and Various Sectionals) DIRECTIONS Bear Hall: Campers and Nightly Activity Pickup Dave Ward Drive off I-40 to Farris Road- approximately 3 miles Turn left onto Student Lane from Farris Road. Follow Student Lane to stop sign. Turn left on to W.J. Sowder St. At next stop sign, turn right onto Marion Ross Ave. At the third stop sign, turn left onto Emma Rasor Dr. Bear Hall is located at the junction of the curve in the road. There will be someone there to greet you. Park in front of building to unload only, find a parking spot before helping set up your child s room. Snow Fine Arts Center Music Building: Monday for s Follow Student Lane to the stop sign at W.J. Sowder, turn left At the next stop sign turn right onto Marian Ross Ave. Follow the street past the third stop sign Follow the road up and around the circle until you reach the covered portico, but do not park in this area. Please park on curb side of the road coming in or going out. Ida Waldron Auditorium (inside Old Main): Old Main is located just east of and behind Snow Fine Arts. This building will be used for rehearsals and sectionals. Reynolds Performance Hall: Coming from the east (or I-40) on Dave Ward/Hwy 60, turn right onto Donaghey Ave; this is the front or east side of the campus. Turn left into campus on Beatrice Powell St. *If you drive past the student crosswalk and Alumni Circle, you will need to turn around and go back. Reynolds is on the left hand (south) side of Beatrice Powell. Parking is located across the street or on the west side of Reynolds Performance Hall. Christian Cafeteria: It is located across the street from the police station, and across the street and to the west of Snow Fine Arts. Camp Rules 1. All electronic devices (including cell phones) are to be off during all instructional time. 2. All students traveling to other buildings outside of the large group must check in/out with a staff member and be in groups of at least 2 people. 3. Campers age 11 or younger must be accompanied by a camp staff member outside of Snow Fine Arts. Parents: please notify Head Counselor during registration that your student is 11 or under. 4. Campers must cross the street at crosswalks and must stay on sidewalks. 5. Do not cross any big street that leads you off campus.(donaghey, Farris, Bruce, or Dave Ward) 6. Students will follow all instructions given by any camp teacher, counselor or helper, and any UCA Staff member without hesitation or complaint. 7. Name badges must be worn at ALL times while at camp. This is your identification for everything. 8. Personal Display of Affection (PDA) is not allowed. 9. All teachers will be referred to as Mr. or Ms. 10. Respect all facilities. 11. Medical Forms and University Liability Release Forms must be turned in upon arrival to camp to Outreach personnel. Those who fail to turn in a form will have their parents called to either fax or email the CSM with the form and copies of medical cards. Rehearsal Rules 1. Bring a pencil, your instrument, needed supplies, and music to EVERY rehearsal. 2. Follow all instructions given by all camp staff. 3. You must be in your seat, tuned (if you can), music on your stand, and warming up by 5 minutes before each rehearsal. 4. Always give YOUR best. 5. Don t worry about other people s best. If any rule is broken, you are subject to work or dismissal, depending upon the offense. The destruction of any UCA property, or signs of disrespect towards any UCA staff member or student will be under the jurisdiction of the UCA Police Department. *The Bear Orchestra will hold auditions Monday afternoon over Region music. Other music may be substituted but it is NOT recommended. Contact the CSM for the Music. 3

1. Arrive at UCA Snow Music Building. Commuter s Daily Checklist Monday from 7:30 a.m.- 8:15 a.m. 2. Check in SFAC Theater Lobby for check-in with Outreach- Follow signs! Meal bands and final payments will be done by Outreach personnel a. Make sure the Medical and Liability Release Forms are turned into Outreach Personnel. b. Pick up name tag from Commuter Counselor (Tuesday- Friday), check in for dinner too. c. Get any information needed (ie: camp packet if forgot one). d. Go to the Snow Recital Hall for a general meeting at 8:30 a.m. 3. Proceed to schedule 4. All 10 th -12 th graders will need All-State/All-Region music. This will happen at the Camp Registration Table. Students may not have medicine unless it is in the possession of Mr. Jensen-McDaniel and it is noted on your registration form. Students are not permitted to have over the counter medication, including throat lozenges, ibuprofen, and Tylenol. Drop off and pick up: *Each day, drop off and pick up will be at the covered driveway at Snow. *Upon arrival, the student will be given their name badge. (Sunday a meal band will also be distributed). *Students who have their name badge may then hang out in the Snow Music Building Courtyard, lobby, or practice room. *Each day, students need to be in their seat with their instrument ready no later than 8:10 am. *Students check out by turning in their name badge when their ride has arrived at the end of the day. *Meal Bands are yours to keep. But it is required each day- Cafeteria must see it upon arrival for lunch; if you forget it you will need to let Mr. Jensen-McDaniel know upon arrival. Parents: You will receive a call if a Commuter Counselor does not receive the name badge at check-out. This is how we monitor who is there and who is not. The police will be notified if we cannot reach you to confirm your child was picked up. COMMUTER MEALS: Lunch at Christian Cafeteria is included in camp tuition. However, any student who stays for dinner will need to buy the evening meal plan from the registration site when registering. If you wish not to purchase the evening meal plan but to pay for selected nights, the cost per individual meal is $10.00 and will be paid at check-in. Students who prefer to bring a lunch will not receive a refund, and will eat their sack lunch in the lobby of Snow Music Building. Students may not go to the Student Center for lunch!. The Student Center has limited hours and they don t always align up with our set lunch time. NIGHT ACTIVITIES: Commuters are invited and encouraged to attend all night activities. The student needs to notify the counselor at check in if he/she plans to stay for dinner and/or night activities each day. If staying for dinner, make sure to bring $10 for dinner, if you have not prepaid. If you check the student out and bring him/her back, he/she must be checked in with the counselor upon arrival. All students attending the activity must report to Bear Hall at 6:15 p.m., except for Wednesday (see schedule). The students will arrive at Bear Hall between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m from the evening activity. You must come into the lobby and check your student out with the counselor at the end of the evening. All students must be checked out prior to 10:00 p.m. Students must be 12 or older to attend the dinner each evening or the Thursday night dance. 5

What Do I Do On The First Day? Staff/Commuter Check-in 4:30pm-5:30pm On Campus Residents Check-in 6:00pm-7:00pm Bear Hall lobby, Sunday July 15 th. (Accommodations will NOT be made for students arriving early. Parents are responsible for their students until Check in. Check in will NOT begin early.) 1. Check in with Bear Hall Staff and pick up your dorm key/slide card 2. Check In with Outreach a. Pick up name tag/meal band. b. Make sure to turn in Medical and Liability Release Forms to Outreach Personnel. 3. Give all medication to Mr. Jensen-McDaniel. Students may not have medicine unless it is in the possession of Mr. Jensen-McDaniel and it is noted on your registration form. Students are not permitted to have over the counter medication, including throat lozenges, ibuprofen, and Tylenol. 4. Complete Check-In List with Counselor. 5. Move In. 6. If you have not eaten dinner, you may leave with your parents for dinner. Dinner will NOT be provided this night. 7. NO Early checkouts allowed. Items Needed For Overnight Campers Blankets, sheets, pillows (twin size) Alarm clock or phone with alarm Phone (and charger) Snacks and drinks- there is no refrigerator available to keep things cold Clothes Comfortable rehearsals and meals inside / games outside in the heat (Don t plan to wash clothes); jeans for concert. Swim Suit We are going to Wild River Country. Boys must wear a t-shirt with swim shorts. Girls must wear t- shirt and shorts over swim suit. Toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, brush, shampoo, soap, etc. Money for snacks on campus and Magic Springs (recommended $20-25). Shoes for outside activities Instrument and all accessories (Shoulder rest, rock stop, rosin, strings, pencil with eraser, etc) Music and items you need for a talent show Camp packet- print and bring a copy with you! Medical/Liability Release forms. Water Bottle - with name on it Electronics are allowed only during non-instructional times. All items are the responsibility of the student. If an item or items are lost or stolen, it is not the responsibility of the camp or UCA. 6

Dorm Rules 1. Stay on your own floor. Visitation is only allowed in the common areas (e.g., outside, lobby, cafeteria, etc.) 2. Any meeting of the two genders will happen in the Lobby or outside. 3. Following night activities, students must remain in dorm unless accompanied by an adult staff member. 4. No student is allowed outside of their room after 10pm. 5. Anyone NOT assigned to your room is NOT allowed in your room after 10 p.m. 6. Lights out is at 10:30 every night. Lights out also means go to sleep! 7. Showers and bathrooms have specific purposes. Nothing else. 8. Respect each other s privacy! 9. Flush if you go, then wash your hands every time! 10. Take a shower EVERY day with soap, water, etc. We don t want to smell you! (Unless you smell like those great smelling soaps) 11. When a counselor comes to your door, you must do as they say immediately. 12. Before you leave, the room will be cleaned and left the way you found it. 13. There will be a check out conducted by a counselor. But, even if the counselor says your room is ok, UCA is the final authority on any and all damages or cleaning fees. 14. Please do not lose your room card. If it is lost, it will cost you $50. This is a UCA policy. If your key is lost, you must tell a counselor FAST. This is to prevent theft of money or room items. If your key is found, we will not have to get the new key that costs $50. **These rules are to keep you safe, protected, and free from problems. Please respect them, and don t complain about them. The most important part of camp is to become a better musician, have fun, and grow as a responsible person*** Room assignments will be given the first night of camp. In most instances, we will pair students by requests made on the registration form; people without a roommate will be paired with someone from their home orchestra if possible. Students who break camp rules or expectations are subject to loss of privileges, cleaning duties, stage crew responsibilities or in extreme circumstances, removal from camp and the UCA campus.
