The Sooners have beaten the Cyclones just once in Ames under Sherri Coale, but have won the last four meetings, including 2007 s Big 12 Tournament Championship Game. The game airs on the Sooner Sports Network (KOKC 1520 AM in Oklahoma City) with Brian Brinkley and Tara DeGiusti on the call. Tip-off is 7 p.m. Central. Player to Watch Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year Courtney Paris leads the Sooners in the conference opener against Iowa State. Paris, who has posted better than season averages with 17.3 points and 16.7 rebounds per game in true road contests, will be looking to start the new year off with a big game. The junior center has averaged 22.0 points in four career games against the Cyclones. Paris needs just four defensive rebounds to claim the Big 12 career record for the statistic. 2006-07 Record: 28-5 (13-3 Big 12; Big 12 Season Co-Champion and Tournament Champion) National Rankings: No. 6 Associated Press / No. 8 USA Today/ESPN Coaches Projected Starters: Player YR HT POS GS MIN PTS REB AST OTHER Courtney Paris JR 6-4 C 11 30.5 16.3 16.3 1.4 3.3 blocks Ashley Paris JR 6-3 F 11 28.5 13.2 6.9 1.7 63.5% FG Amanda Thompson SO 6-0 F 11 22.7 8.2 7.1 2.1 1.9 steals Jenna Plumley SO 5-4 G 11 30.8 8.6 1.6 3.8 37.1% 3FG Danielle Robinson FR 5-9 G 10 29.1 12.2 2.8 4.5 2.5 steals 2006-07 Record: 26-9 (10-6; T-4th in Big 12) National Rankings: Not Ranked Projected Starters: Player YR HT POS GS MIN PTS REB AST OTHER Alison Lacey SO 6-0 G 13 32.3 13.8 3.4 4.4 47.4% 3FG Nicky Wieben JR 6-4 F 13 26.7 13.2 5.2 1.0 2.4 blocks Heather Ezell JR 5-9 G 12 30.8 9.8 3.0 3.5 1.5 steals Amanda Nisleit JR 6-0 F 11 24.6 6.9 4.6 1.1 47.8% 3FG Denae Stuckey SO 5-8 G 13 22.0 4.5 5.3 1.4 1.0 steals Setting the Scene Date: Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2007 Series: 46th Meeting (OU leads 28-17, ISU leads 11-8 in Ames) Location: Ames, Iowa Tipoff: 7 p.m. Central Venue: James H. T h e 2007-08 Season Nine Co n s e c u t i v e W i n s National Attendance Leader Oklahoma set a program record for attendance last season and, if early indications prove true, another record should be set in 2007-08. After four home games, OU s per game attendance average stands at 9,882, currently No. 3 in the nation for average home game attendance. Oklahoma was No. 4 in national attendance last season and No. 2 in the Big 12 Conference with an average of 10,437 in the seats for OU s 12 home games. Season Ticket Update As of Monday, Dec. 17, the OU Athletics Ticket Office had sold approximately 6,592 season ticket packages. The number breaks the record of 6,465 season tickets bought for OU women s basketball last season. Though reserved level season tickets have sold out, general admission season tickets remain and fans are encouraged to purchase them prior to the start of the season. GA season tickets are available for $115. Group and single game tickets became available Monday, Nov. 19. Single game tickets for all home games are $8 for adults and $5 for youths (K-12). The Sooner fan base is one of the nation s fastest growing. The Oklahoma women s basketball team ranked No. 4 in attendance last season, averaging 10,437 fans. That was an increase of 37 percent from the 2005-06 season when Lloyd Noble Center games averaged 7,630, which was an increase of 35 percent over the previous season. Fans can purchase season tickets by calling th OU Ticket Office at (800) 456-GoOU or online at SoonerSports.com. the Nation s Toughest Start Oklahoma will play 11 regular-season games, among eight different teams, ranked in the USA Today/ESPN Preseason Coaches Poll. That is not the toughest schedule in the nation as No. 1 Tennessee will look to earn its way back to the national title game with 12 games among 11 preseason Top 25 teams. However, OU will face a tougher start than any other team in college basketball with its first three games among teams in the top 12, including No. 1 Tennesee and No. 4 Maryland -- the past two national champions. All three of these games will be played at neutral sites. Team Goals Sherri Coale has two main goals for the Oklahoma Sooners in 2007-08. One, to be one of the top three teams in field-goal percentage defense, which Oklahoma was last season at No. 3. Two, is to cut down on turnovers and, specifically, be in the top three in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio. Here is where the Sooners presently stand on meeting their team goals. Goal Number NCAA Rank* Change from Last Game FG% Def. 35.3% 45th* regression A/T Ratio.927 (191/206) 47th* improvement *NCAA rankings through games played Jan. 6, 2008. Benchmark Games Ahead Currently Sherri Coale has 241 victories in her 12th year as the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners. Coale could reach her 250th victory as soon as Feb. 6, against Missouri. Oklahoma started its women s basketball program for the 1974-75 season and is approaching its 1,000th game. To date, the Sooners are 21 games shy of 1,000 in program history. There are 17 games left in the regular season, which would mean that if OU failed to get a first-round bye for the Big 12 Tournament, the first opportunity to play 1,000 would be in the Championship Game. 2007-08 Oklahoma Sooners Numerical Roster No. Name Pronunciation Yr.-Exp. The matchup pits the nation s No. 7 scoring offense in Oklahoma (9-2) against the nation s No. 5 scoring defense in Iowa State (11-2). The Sooners score 80.7 points per game while the Cyclones give up just 50.7. Though the past two regular-season meetings have been a wash with OU scoring 20-point victories in both contests, the past two meetings in the Big 12 Tournament have gone down to the wire. In the 2007 championship game, OU won 67-60, and in the 2006 tourney, OU triumphed in a 78-74 decision. Iowa State returned 10 letterwinners from its 2006-07 team that finished the season 26-9 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Similarly to OU, Iowa State s team will play no seniors. Toccara Ross, the team s only senior, will miss the remainder of the season after tearing her ACL in a game against Minnesota. Should the game come down to the wire, finding an edge may be tough. ISU leads the nation in fouls, but OU is 323 of 326 Division I teams in free-throw percentage. THE All-Time SERIES Oklahoma leads the series with Iowa State, 28-17, including victories in the last four meetings. The last time OU and Iowa State met was March 10, 2007, in the Big 12 Tournament Championship Game in Oklahoma City, won by the Sooners 67-60. In Ames, Iowa, the Cyclones reign supreme with 11 wins to Oklahoma s three. Sherri Coale picked up her first win in Ames during the Sooners last visit in 2006, an 87-67 rout. Coale, who has coached the Sooners since the inception of the Big 12 Conference, is 5-9 against Iowa State, with a 3-8 mark in regular-season only games. Her first win against ISU came Feb. 22, 2003, in her seventh season. Under Coale in Ames, OU is 1-4. Tale of the Tape OKLAHOMA IOWA STATE 80.7........ Points Per Game........ 67.2 +22.9....... 3-PT. Feast or Famine One of OU s longest miscellaneous streaks ended against Arizona State (Nov. 22) when OU failed to make a 3-pointer (0-for-4) for the first time in 132 consecutive games. The last time the Sooners did not make a 3 was Nov. 24, 2003 versus Southeast Missouri State (0-for-7) in the second game of that season. The following is a number of streaks the Sooners hope to keep going another season. 6 Wins in the Big 12 Tournament 8 NCAA Tournament Appearances 9 Winning Seasons 9 Wins 10 Opponents Outrebounded 48 Weeks in the AP and Coaches Polls 64 Opponents Held Below.500 FG PCT 72 Double-Doubles for Courtney Paris 80 Double-Digit Scoring Games for C. Paris Seeking Sole Possession Oklahoma s Sherri Coale, Iowa State s Bill Fennelly, and the retired Jody Conradt formerly of Texas, share most regular-season Big 12 Conference coaching victories with 110 apiece. Either Coale or Fennelly will walk away from January 9th with sole possession (at least temporarily) of the record. Including Big 12 Tournament wins, Fennelly has the most conference-only victories with 118 with Coale trailing by one at 117. However, Coale leads in overall winning percentage.635 (127-73) to Fennelly s.631 (128-75). 48 Weeks...and Counting With Oklahoma s jump in the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls this week, the Sooners have appeared in both for 48 straight polls (including preseason polls). OU s record for consecutive Top 25 poll appearances is 59 in the AP (from week 11 of the 1999-2000 season to week 11 of the 2002-03 season) and 60 in the Coaches (from week 11 of the 1999-2000 season to week 13 of the 2002-03 season). Both stints including 26 consecutive weeks being ranked in the Top 10. OU also had a 19-week run in the Top 10 of the AP Poll and 20- week run in the Top 10 of the Coaches Poll over the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. This season, Oklahoma has been in the Top 10 of the AP Poll for 10 straight weeks (all season) and seven straight Coaches Polls (since week three). Georgia Tech.6193 86 RECAPPING SOUTH CAROLINA Freshman guard Danielle Robinson scored a career-high 20 points to go with six assists and Paris kept her double-double streak alive as No. 9 Oklahoma routed South Carolina 95-63. The 6-foot-4 junior had 24 rebounds, nearly matching South Carolina s total of 26 and missing her career high by only two. But she went just 4-of-14 from the field and didn t reach the 10-point mark until a bucket from underneath with 3:57 left. The home crowd roared when Paris secured her 72nd straight double-double. Oklahoma had a 58-26 rebounding edge over South Carolina, which has not beaten a ranked team since December 2005. Paris shot 2-for-11 from the field in the first half, but matched her career high for rebounds in a half with 14 as the Sooners led 45-29 at halftime and held a 34-14 rebounding edge. Paris didn t score until 12 minutes into the game, even having a couple of shots blocked by South Carolina s towering frontline of 6-foot-6 Ilona Burgrova and 6-foot-4 Demetress Adams. But the way Paris teammates were shooting, it didn t matter. Taking advantage of openings created by South Carolina s defense against Paris, four Sooners had eight points or more in the half, led by Ashley Paris, who had 10 on 5-of-5 shooting. Oklahoma never trailed and had a double-digit lead by midway through the half. South Carolina pulled within 13 in the opening moments of the second half, but the Sooners responded with a 19-2 run to build their lead to 64-34. A 16-0 run by the Gamecocks cut the gap to 68-53 with 10 minutes left, but Oklahoma scored 11 of the next 13 points to rebuild its lead. Fantastic Four Minutes Oklahoma walked away from East Lansing, Mich., with a victory thanks in large part to how it opened the second half. It s been a trend of Sherri Coale-coached teams to come out from the locker room much more intense than their opponents. Considering that a four-minute interval is 10 percent of a game, during the first four-minute interval following halftime Oklahoma holds a statistical advantage over its opponent in all categories except free throw percentage. Oklahoma is scoring 13 percent of its points. Opponents are scoring 11 percent. Oklahoma s assist-to-turnover ratio is 1.8, almost twice as positive as its season average of.927. 66 percent of Oklahoma s field goals are assisted compared to just 52 percent for the rest of the game. OU is making 26 percent more shots than its opponent during this span, but only 13 percent more during the rest of the game. Oklahoma blocks 19 percent of its shots while opponents tally seven percent. In raw numbers, OU has 11 blocks while opponents have just three. Oklahoma counts 13 percent of its steals while opponents count 10 percent. The Sooners are shooting 50 percent from 3-point range (5-of-10) while opponents shoot 36 percent (4-of-11) during the span. Oklahoma is outrebounding opponents during this span 44 to 31.

Twice as Nice The Paris twins have scored in double figures in the same game on 25 occasions, achieving the feat seven times in 2007-08 after doing so 11 times last season. Since Courtney has scored in double figures in all of her 80 career games, the 25 occasions account for every double-figure game of Ashley s career. The duo has posted a double-double in the same game six times (four as freshman and two as sophomores). OU is 23-2 when both Parises reach double figure scoring and 6-0 when both achieve a double-double. Ashley Paris as a Starter Since taking over as a full time starter, Ashley Paris is making her name as well known as her sister s. Prior to the season, she had 15 starts in 69 games. She has started all 11 OU games in 2006-07. As a starter, Ashley Paris averages 9.6 points per game, well above her career scoring average of 7.5. Basketball E.R.A. It will be the 22nd time Paris will match up against a player with equal or greater height. Paris averages 19.7 points and 15.2 rebounds, just under career averages of 21.8 an 15.6, when the opposing team s starting forward/center is 6-4 or taller. Conversely, an opponent of equal or greater height to Paris averages just 9.2 points and 5.6 rebounds. Paris tallest matchup was 6-9 Alyssa DeHaan of Michigan State. DeHaan netted just 10 points and five boards against Paris as the Sooners rallied to win, 66-55, in their largest second-half comeback in program history. No. 3 s Company Since she first put on a Sooner jersey, it has been rare when Courtney Paris was not Oklahoma s leading scorer after a game. But that scenario is becoming more common as the talent around her and the double- and triple-teaming defenses increase. Danielle Robinson s 20 points against South Carolina (Dec. 30) marked the fourth consecutive game in which a different Sooner was the team leader in points scored (Courtney Paris, 17 at Tulsa; Amanda Thompson, 14 at Michigan State; and Jenny Vining, 20 vs. Central Arkansas). This came after Ashley and Courtney Paris spent the first eight games of the season splitting games as the team s leading scorer with Ashley getting the honor three times and Courtney five. Until this season, Courtney never missed two games without being her team s leading scorer until Ashley posted the high number in OU s two games in Cancun against Arizona State and Mississippi State. Last season, Courtney Paris was OU s leading scorer in all but five games. Jenna Plumley, Leah Rush and Chelsi Welch were the others that scored. During her freshman season, C. Paris led in all but five games with Rush, Welch and Erin Higgins also getting leading scoring honors during the year. The last time four different Sooners were the leading point scorers in consecutive games was during the 2003-04 season when it happened in games 3 through 6. The last time there were five different leading scorers was also in the same season in games 2 through 6. Owning Up To THE Glass A number of jabs have been punched at Courtney Paris about how many of her rebounds are from her own missed shots. Only 20 (31 percent) of her total offensive rebounds come after her own missed field goal. Even if you subtracted those boards from her season total, she would average 14.5, well above the second best mark in the nation. Paris is also 8-for-11 from the free throw line following a foul on a offensive rebound or putback, with a 5-for-9 mark when it is from her own missed shot. A Perfect 10 Courtney Paris 10 points against South Carolina (Dec. 30) was a career low, meaning she has never scored outside of double figures in her career. Only two other NCAA Division I players LaToya Thomas, Mississippi State (1998-2002) and Chandi Jones, Houston (2000-04) have finished their careers scoring in double figures in every game. The most double-figure scoring games was accomplished by Sophia Young of Baylor (2003-06), who scored 10 or more points in 130 of her 139 career games. Paris 10 points were 10.5 percent of OU s total 95 against South Carolina, marking her lowest percent contribution since her career began. However, Paris did manage to grasp 24 rebounds, two from her personal best and the second most in a single game by a Division I player this season. Paris second lowest percentage contribution came one game before against Central Arkansas, when she provided 14 of the team s program record 121. Paris played only 22 minutes in the game. Paris passed Caton Hill (2000-04), who amassed a career total of 1,653. Next on the list is Stacey Dales (1999-2002) with 1,920 points. Given her current rate, Paris should pass Dales in nine games, the Feb. 9 home contest versus Colorado. Phylesha Whaley (1997-2000), who played 116 games, is the OU career scoring leader with 2,187 points. Should OU once again make a run through the Big 12 Conference Tournament and NCAA Tournament, Paris could pass that mark by the end of the season. Should Paris finish her career with her current scoring average of 21.8 points, she will destroy the previous record of 18.9 held by Whaley. BLOCK PARTY Courtney Paris passed LaNae Jones (1993-96) as OU s career blocks leader during the Nov. 27 games versus North Texas. Paris entered the contest two blocks from Jones record of 243 and counted five in the game to move past to 246. Paris, who has OU s single-season record with 119 blocks as a freshman (and is No. 2 on the single-season list with 111 blocks as a sophomore) currently has 266 career blocks. She and Jones are the only two Sooners ever to record 100 blocks. With a rate of 3.3 blocks per game and at least 44 games left in her career, Paris could break 400 career blocks by the time she leaves the college game. TCU s Sandra Irvin (2002-05) has the NCAA record for career blocks with 480 in 127 games (3.78 per game). She has an active streak of 72 consecutive games with a double-double. The streak began with a 22-point, 24-rebound effort versus UCLA on Dec. 5, 2007, and will be 765 days old when OU meets Iowa State on Jan. 9, 2007. Happy Birthday, Record Paris double-double streak was born with a 22-point, 24-rebound effort against UCLA on Dec. 5, 2005. The streak celebrated its second birthday Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, as Oklahoma defeated Illinois. Courtney s 22 points and 14 rebounds pushed the streak to 68 consecutive games. Let s Go Streaking After review of the Mississippi State game by both institutions, Courtney Paris double-double streak was restored. Though it is widely believed that Courtney Paris owns both the NCAA women s basketball Division I records for career and consecutive double-doubles, those records are still being researched. However, the NCAA double-double records for men s basketball do exist. The longest men s double-double streak was 40 games by North Carolina s Billy Cunningham, which coincidentally began on the same day (Dec. 5), 43 years prior to Paris streak. The most career double-doubles by the men belongs to Tim Duncan, who recorded 87 in his four seasons at Wake Forest (1994-97). The top five men s records are below. Her standard is the double-double and, if and when, she fails to get her next, it will be a bigger story than when she next achieves it. Paris double-double success rate outpaces even the best in NCAA men s basketball history. The following details what percentage of the player s total games they achieved a double-double. She has reached the double-double figure by halftime on 11 occasions and has played 15 second halves alone in which she achieved a double-double. Her most recent was a 11-point, 12-rebound first half versus Tulsa on Dec. 8. Paris had 10 double-double halves as a freshman and 14 as a sophomore. Paris career high for points in a half is 23 (Michigan State, Dec. 21, 2005; New Mexico, Dec. 30, 2006; and Oklahoma State, Feb. 4, 2007) and rebounds in a half is 14 (Baylor, March 11, 2006; Kansas State, Jan. 3, 2007; Missouri, Feb. 25, 2007; and South Carolina, Dec. 30, 2007). Across the Board As a freshman, Courtney Paris set the NCAA single-season record with 539 rebounds and neared the mark as a sophomore with 526. As a junior, Paris is averaging 16.3 boards, better than her 15.0 rate as a freshman. Paris has owned OU s offensive rebounds record since last season and took over as the No. 1 total rebounder in the Sooners season opener. She passed Caton Hill for No. 1 on OU s defensive rebounding list with seven defensive boards versus Mississippi State (Nov. 27). Paris currently has 1,244 career rebounds with 420 coming off the offensive glass and 824 defensively. Baylor s Sophia Young (2002-06) currently holds the Big 12 Conference record for total rebounds with 1,316. Young also owns the career offensive rebounds (489) and defensive rebounds (827) records. No other Sooner in history has recorded 400 or more total rebounds in a single season.

However, while these freshmen are very talented and will make their names known quickly, they do draw comparisons to some familiar faces. Danielle Robinson 5-9 G San Jose, Calif. Robinson was the Sooners surprise pickup of the 2007 recruiting class. After acknowledging OU was off her radar until her official visit, Robinson made the decision to be a Sooner before she checked her bags for the return flight home. The speedy guard will see time both on and off the point and draws comparisons to Dionnah Jackson. Carlee Roethlisberger 6-1 F Findlay, Ohio Having the third most recognizable surname speaks to the star power on the Sooners roster. Yes, Carlee is the sister of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben, but she may the family s best athlete. Roethlisberger is leanest Sooner and the one with the greatest ceiling in terms of untapped basketball potential. Her play resembles another lean forward in former Sooner Leah Rush. Jenny Vining 5-9 G Marshall, Ark. This Arkansas high school star will remind fans of former Sooner Erin Higgins because of her 3-point range and accuracy, although Vining s may prove to be better in both cases. Head coach Sherri Coale says that Vining might be the best freshman she has ever coached because of her ability to quickly learn from mistakes and make correct adjustments in practice. Lauren Willis 5-11 G Overland Park, Kan. Willis was an all-stater in Kansas and walkedon to the OU program. She has been a stellar defender in practice as was quite the spark in OU s preseason intrasquad scrimmage as she went 3- for-3 from beyond the arc in limited action. Willis is the daughter of Steve Willis, a placekicker on Kansas State football s first ever bowl team, and the former Lois Groen, an All-American and Big Eight Conference track and field champion at Iowa State. C. Paris Big 12 Preseason POY For the second straight season, Oklahoma s Courtney Paris was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year in the coaches vote. The 6-4 center, who averaged 23.5 points and 15.9 rebounds, was last season s Big 12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Sooners to title defenses of the conference s regular season and tournament championships. Ashley Paris was an honorable mention for the All-Big 12 team. Sooners Picked Second in Big 12 The Oklahoma Sooners were picked to finish second in this season s Big 12 Conference women s basketball standings in a preseason poll voted by the league s coaches. Texas A&M, the 2006-07 Big 12 co-champions with Oklahoma, received seven of 12 first-place votes to edge the Sooners, who received five first-place votes, in a split decision between the two teams. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. 2007-08 Big 12 Conference Preseason Poll Rank Team Points 1. texas A&M (7) 117 2. Co u r t n e y Pa r i s Naismith, WA d e, W o o d e n C a n d i d at e Paris a Preseason Wooden Award Candidate Courtney Paris was named one of 30 preseason candidates for the 2007-08 Women s Wooden Award announced by the John R. Wooden Award committee Wednesday, Oct. 31. Paris, a two-time Wooden All-American, was also a preseason nominee last year and was one of 16 finalists for the 2007 Women s Wooden Award. Tennessee s Candace Parker was the 2007 recipient of the honor. The award is named for the three-time college basketball All-American, 1932 National Player of the Year and 10-time national championship coach John Wooden. Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. It is bestowed upon the nation s best player at an institution of higher education who has proven to his or her university that he or she is making progress toward graduation and maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Previous winners include such notables as Larry Bird (1979), Michael Jordan (1984), Tim Duncan (1997), and last year s recipients, Kevin Durant of Texas and Candace Parker of Tennessee. Paris and Team USA Qualify for Olympics Courtney Paris missed 30 days of the Sooners preseason training...and head coach Sherri Coale probably couldn t have been more pleased with the result. Courtney Paris, one of two collegians playing for the USA Basketball Women s Senior National Team, swept through the FIBA Americas Zone Tournament in Valdivia, Chile, winning the gold medal against Cuba on Sept. 30 and, more importantly, clinching a berth for the United States in next year s Olympic Games. Paris was a role-player for the U.S., as one of very few post players her size in international basketball. She averaged nine minutes per game as the Americans went through the tournament undefeated at 5-0. It was Paris seventh gold medal as part of a USA Basketball team. Paris and U21 Team win World Championship Paris earned twice as much gold this summer as she helped the USA Basketball Women s Under 21 Team to a World Championship title in July. The U.S. defeated Australia, 96-73, in the title game in Moscow, Russia, to give Paris and Team USA its fourth straight gold in age-group basketball. Paris played 39 games with USA Basketball in age group contests and never lost. She averaged 10.9 points and 8.0 rebounds in eight contests during the World Championships. SoonerSports.com Blog Even though she was out of the country, Courtney Paris kept everyone at home up to speed on her progress with USA Basketball via the OU Women s Basketball Blog on SoonerSports. com. OU head coach Sherri Coale submits regular postings and this season several OU players will enter the cyberspace realm with their own unique contributions. Red Bests White in Intrasquad Scrimmage The University of Oklahoma women s basketball team completed its intrasquad scrimmage Thursday night at the Lloyd Noble Center in front of 2,200 fans. Players split time between Red and White teams as they played four eight-minute quarters. The Red defeated White in three quarters and won the overall battle with a total score of 79-76. Each period was intense and down to the wire as the largest margin of victory in any quarter was four points. White got the best of Red in the first, 21-17, but Red bounced back with victories in the final three quarters (25-22 in the second, 12-11 in the third and 25-22 in the fourth.) Courtney Paris led the Sooners with 27 total points. She shot 9-of-16 (.563) from the field and added nine points at the free throw line. Paris missed a double-double by one rebound, but made contributions elsewhere with four assists and a steal in 27 minutes on the court. Nyeshia Stevenson scored 26 points and added three steals and two assists to her stat line as she took full advantage of her athletic ability in several fast breaks and one-on-one situations. OU s four freshman played with no fear as guards Danielle Robinson and Jenny Vining scored 14 points apiece, Lauren Willis shot 3-of-3 from beyond the arc for nine points and forward Carlee Roethlisberger totaled seven points and seven rebounds. Also scoring in double figures were Rose Hammond (15), Jenna Plumley (11) and Abi Olajuwon (11). Plumley, who played 31 of a possible 32 minutes, was effective running the point, shooting 3-of-9 from 3-point range and counting nine assists with just three turnovers. Ashley Paris had a game-high 12 rebounds and Amanda Thompson led with four steals. The margin of victory (70) points, was two shy of OU s program record. On Nov. 6, The Sooners piled on points NAIA Division I Oklahoma Christian, 110-51, with an attendance of 5,172 -- the fourth best exhibition game attendance mark in program history.

Even fewer teams have had success while emphasizing the books on the same level as the balls. The symmetry is a trademark of Coale s program. She meticulously prepares her athletes to excel in the classroom and on the hardwood. In essence, master the game of life and the challenges presented on the court will fall like dominoes. Those obstacles have routinely been bulldozed during the Coale s 11 years as the head coach of Oklahoma. The numbers speak for themselves. Take for example the 21 straight semesters with a combined team GPA of 3.0 or better, the five Big 12 Regular Season Championships, the 68 Academic All-Big 12 honors, the four Big 12 Tournament Championships, the eight All-District Academic Team members, the eight straight NCAA Tournament appearances, the four Academic All-America team members and the five Sweet 16 appearances. The foundation was a laid years ago during a humble upbringing in the oil mining town of Healdton, Okla. Those morals have stood as the roots of Oklahoma women s basketball for 11 years. Now they are flourishing on an elite level. So as the Sooners sit on the cusp of the 2007-08 season with the biggest national spotlight in program history already glaring in their eyes, Coale and company are sticking to their roots.
