Strong oxidizer. Contact with other material may cause a fire. May cause skin irritation. Hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air). The toxicological properties of this material have not been fully investigated. May cause methemoglobinemia. May cause respiratory and digestive tract irritation. Causes eye irritation and possible injury. Target Organs: Blood. Potential Health Effects Eye: Causes eye irritation. May cause eye injury. Skin: May cause skin irritation. May cause irritation of the digestive tract. The toxicological properties of this substance have not been fully investigated. Methemoglobinemia is characterized by dizziness, drowsiness, headache, shortness of breath, Ingestion: cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood), rapid heart rate and chocolatebrown colored blood. Ingestion of nitrate containing compounds can lead to methemoglobinemia. May cause respiratory tract irritation. The toxicological properties of this substance have not been fully

investigated. Methemoglobinemia is characterized by dizziness, drowsiness, headache, shortness of breath, Inhalation: cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood), rapid heart rate and chocolatebrown blood. May cause methemoglobinemia, which is characterized by chocolate-brown colored blood, headache, Chronic: weakness, dizziness, breath shortness, cyanosis (bluish skin due to deficient oxygenation of blood), rapid heart rate, unconsciousness and possible death. Eyes: Skin: Ingestion: Inhalation: Notes to Physician: Antidote: General Information: Extinguishing Media: Section 4 - First Aid Measures Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid. Do NOT allow victim to rub eyes or keep eyes closed. Get medical aid. Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid. Do NOT induce vomiting. If conscious and alert, rinse mouth and drink 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid. For methemoglobinemia, administer oxygen alone or with Methylene Blue depending on the methemoglobin concentration in the blood. Methylene blue, alone or in combination with oxygen is indicated as a treatment in nitrite induced methemoglobinemia. Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Strong oxidizer. Contact with other material may cause fire. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use water with caution and in flooding amounts. Use agent most appropriate to extinguish fire. Do NOT get water inside containers. Contact professional fire-fighters immediately. Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or appropriate foam. Autoignition Not applicable. Temperature: Flash Point: Not applicable. Explosion Limits: Lower: Explosion Limits: Upper: NFPA Rating: ; instability: OX General Information: Spills/Leaks: Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8. Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Remove all sources of ignition. Provide ventilation. Do not get water inside containers. Section 7 - Handling and Storage Wash thoroughly after handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Avoid contact with clothing and other Handling: combustible materials. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Do not allow contact with water. Keep from contact with moist air and steam. Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Do not store near combustible materials. Store in a tightly closed Storage: container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Store protected from moisture.
