Show management reserves the right to dismiss any horse that seems unfit or at risk of injury. Stallions (uncastrated male, over 1 year old) may not be shown or handled by anyone under 18 years of age. Horses must be in appropriate saddlery and equipment for the class entered. For example, Western Classes and Trail require Western tack, English Classes require English tack. Gymkhana riders can ride either English or Western but must be ALL English or ALL Western. Horses under 5 years of age may be ridden in a standard Hackamore or snaffle bit in Western Classes. Mechanical Hackamores are allowed in Gymkhana if riding Western, but not allowed in Western or English Classes. The USEF rulebook applies to all classes in the Western and English divisions. The Fun at the Fair Horse Show is hosted by: Ventura County Fair Rules and Regulations NO DOGS PERMITTED anywhere on the Fairgrounds during Horse Fair, except those permitted by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Greater Los Angeles Paint Horse Club (GLAPHC) The Greater Los Angeles Paint Horse Club has been around since 1984. We have always promoted our breed, the American Paint Horse, while helping other horse people regardless of their preference in breeds. The club is open to all horse people, even those who don't own a horse. We have Year-End Awards for all disciplines of riding in our Paint Promotion Program and have even expanded our awards program to include all non APHA registered horses that display APHA Coloring in our Horses of Color Program. We are a very social club, that welcomes all members of the family, with BBQ's, Clinics and even Dinner and a Movie. We host our annual Horse Show at the Ventura County Fair. We do an annual charity trail ride for St. Jude's Hospital We have represented the APHA and our club at the Horse Expo and Equine Affaire, and Day of the Horse, as well as other community activities. We host Seminars and Clinics and work with other clubs and organizations. In 2016 we began our Scholarship Program for Graduating Seniors that have been active in horses as a owner, rider, groom, volunteer, etc., and would like to to continue their time with horses while in college. We are an APHA Gold Star Club! Lunging will be allowed before 8 am in the warm up arena and designated lunging area. The designated lunging area will be marked and available throughout the show. 15 minute time limit applies. All competitors will be given two wrist bands to give them access to the show grounds. One for the competitior and one for a parent or an assistant. All other family and guests, must pay for entrance into the fairgrounds. NO EXCEPTIONS! For those coming before 11am, the opening time of the Ventura County Fair, They must enter at the Garden Street Entrance and pay admission if they do not have a wrist band. Parking is very limited! Please park at the designated Fair parking lots and walk or take the shuttle to the Fair entrance. Those competitors needing to bring in equipment to the stable area will be given a 30 minute pass to unload equipment and then they must imediately remove their vehicles from the stable area and find parking in available parking areas. This is a State Law and all those who refuse to move their vehicles WILL BE TOWED! All work is done at the lope or the gallop. Horses will be judged on their responsiveness to the riders aids, and the ability to perform the set pattern and movements. Single Stake: This is a timed event. Poles 1: This is a timed event. Birangle: This is a timed event. Speed Barrels: This is a timed event. Barrels (Cloverleaf): This is a timed event. Walk/ Trot competitors may not canter, lope or gallop. This division in the Speed Events is to encourage riders who would like to try these speed events but are not comfortable with going at high speed. Class Descriptions WESTERN DAY Showmanship: Exhibitors will show their horses in hand performing a predetermined pattern that may include, walk, trot, halt, back up, a 90, 180 or 360 degree turn. Exhibitors must also present their horses to the judge as directed. Competitors may show their horses in English or Western attire, with English showing in a Bridle, and Western in a halter with a chain and lead. Halter: Horses to be shown in hand and to be judged on the conformation of the horse. Competitors may show their horses in English or Western attire, with English showing in a Bridle, and Western in a halter with a chain and lead. Halter Championship: First and Second place horses from all halter classes will automatically be entered in this class. (Showmanship does not count for this class). Country Pleasure: This class is judged at the Walk and the rider's Favorite Gait in both directions. Walk /Trot competitors may enter this class but may not lope. Western Equitation: Judged on rider's position at the halt and while in motion, The rider shall have a neat and workmanlike appearance, displaying the correct position and have a light seat and hands, showing suppleness and conveying the impression of complete control. Riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, jog, and lope in both directions and may be asked to halt, rein-back (at the judges discretion). Walk/ Trot Classes will not be asked to lope. Western Pleasure: Riders will compete in a group at the walk, jog, and lope, and may be asked to halt and rein back. Competitors are judged on the horse maintaining a steady, comfortable pace at all gaits giving the appearance of being a pleasure to ride. Walk/Trot Classes will not be asked to lope. Western Horsemanship: Individual Competitors will ride a simple predetermined pattern that will be judged on their ability to control and manage their horse. These patterns may include walk, jog, and lope in one or both directions, halt, rein-back, counter lope, extended trot, and extended lope.. Walk/Trot Classes will not be asked to lope. Class Descriptions ENGLISH DAY Warm Up Over Fences: This class is judged! Judged on the horses performance over a course of 8 fences with 2 changes of direction. Competitors are judged on the ability to maintain an even pace and negotiate the jumps in a graceful manner with knock downs and refusals being penalized. This class does not count towards High Point Awards or Super Horse. Trot Cross-rails: To be judged as Equitation or Hunters as designated but competitors will not be penalized for trotting the course or performing lead changes through the trot. Riders that compete in Trot Cross-rail classes may not compete in any other Over Fences Classes. Equitation Over Fences: Shall be judged over a course of at least 8 fences with two changes of direction. Rider will be judged from the time that they enter the arena. Emphasis is placed on the rider's ability to control and guide their horse over the course while maintaining the correct posture. Hunter Over Fences: Judged on the horses performance over a course of 8 fences with 2 changes of direction. Competitors are judged on the ability to maintain an even pace and negotiate the jumps in a graceful manner with knock downs and refusals being penalized. English Equitation: Judged on rider's position at the halt and while in motion, The rider shall have a neat and workmanlike appearance, displaying the correct position and have a light seat and hands, showing suppleness and conveying the impression of complete control. Riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, trot, and canter in both directions and may be asked to halt, rein-back or ride without stirrups (at the judges discretion). Walk/ Trot Classes will not be asked to canter or ride without stirrups. English Pleasure: Riders will compete in a group at the walk, trot, and canter and may be asked to halt and rein back. Competitors are judged on the horse maintaining a steady, comfortable pace at all gaits giving the appearance of being a pleasure to ride. Walk/Trot Classes will not be asked to canter. English Horsemanship: Individual Competitors will ride a simple predetermined pattern that will be judged on their ability to control and manage their horse. These patterns may include walk, trot, and canter in one or both directions, halt, rein-back, counter canter, sitting trot, extended trot. Walk/Trot Classes will not be asked to canter or ride without stirrups. Country Pleasure: This class is judged at the Walk and the rider's Favorite Gait in both directions. Walk /Trot competitors may enter this class but may not canter. Jumpers (Table 2b): This class will test the competitors ability to clear a course of fences without jumping faults for knock downs, refusals, or going off course. If the competitor completes the course without any penalties, they will, without leaving the arena, proceed to the Jump Off. Upon being given a signal of a bell or whistle from the judge, they will ride over a shortened course where the lowest penalty points and fastest time will win. Hunter Hack: Riders will be asked to demonstrate their ability on the rail by riding at the walk, trot, and canter in both directions. Riders will then be asked to individually jump over two fences and follow any directions from the judge.
