What's New in VoluMill 7.1 Technology Expert The Technology Expert is designed to provide specific cutting recommendations for VoluMill. The part material, tool geometry, and setup information is used to provide both conservative and aggressive machining parameters. 1 What's New in VoluMill 7.0/7.1

Automatic Chip Thickness Calculator moved to Feeds and Speeds dialog The Automatic Chip Thickness Calculator has been relocated to the Feeds and Speeds dialog. This enables the application of most of the recommendations to be seen as it happens. Miscellaneous Cut Levels - Z Stock Z Stock is only applied when there is a part face. It is not applied to a face of material. Cut Levels - Exceeded Maximum Depth of Cut If the depth of cut is exceeded an additional cut will be added and sub-divided into the total depth. 2 What's New in VoluMill 7.0/7.1

What's New in VoluMill 7.0 Spiral Motion Where advantageous, VoluMill now uses a spiral motion to initially clear out material. This is especially useful when machining simplistic, primitive shapes such as circles and squares. Reductions in cycle times in these applications have shown to be as much as 15%. Intelligent Regeneration VoluMill regeneration times are reduced by only recalculating what is necessary. Depending on the part shape and what parameters have been modified, reductions in regeneration time can be as much as 60%. 3 What's New in VoluMill 7.0/7.1

Increased D-Slot Width When machining into new areas, VoluMill uses a D-shaped motion. Where possible, the size of the arcs used in this motion has been increased to aid in chip evacuation, further extending tool life. Open Face Machining When machining completely open areas, VoluMill now automatically determines the optimal cut angle and order of cuts to yield the shortest cycle time. The new cutting pattern ensures that the last cut is at the full stepover value, minimizing the problems associated with cutting thin "posts" or strips of material. Reductions in cycle times for open faces have shown to be as much as 60%. 4 What's New in VoluMill 7.0/7.1

Initial and Final Clearance Motion Separate Approach and Departure heights can be specified when machining-setups require increased clearances when indexing or positioning. Zig Zag in Corners The Alternate Cut Direction motion in VoluMill now extends to clearing out corners, where advantageous. This automatic function is only employed if it will reduce the cycle time. 5 What's New in VoluMill 7.0/7.1

Engage Type None When Engage Type: None is chosen, VoluMill will only machine areas of the part that the tool can enter from the side, at cut depth. No plunging parallel to the tool axis will take place. This is especially helpful when working with non-center cutting tools. Miscellaneous Maintenance Expiration Warning When the maintenance expiration date approaches a friendly reminder is displayed. Subdivided Depths per Cut Depths of cut are now evenly divided into the overall depth when Final Step Heights are not applied. Contour Ramping Permitted Unchecked by Default The Contour Ramping Permitted option is now unchecked by default. Files from earlier versions are not affected. 6 What's New in VoluMill 7.0/7.1

"Common Depth per Cut" changed to "Maximum Distance" "Common Depth per Cut" in NX refers to how the depth of cut is calculated, not the distance. "Maximum Distance" is the correct and consistent description. "Smoothing Radius" changed to "Minimum Radius" "Minimum Radius" is a more accurate description of this parameter. 7 What's New in VoluMill 7.0/7.1

Drill Point parameters grayed if Engage Type is not set to Pre-Drill This was changed to address input from customers. 8 What's New in VoluMill 7.0/7.1
