Selous Game Reserve A World Heritage Site and the largest expanse of game reserve in Africa, it covers 55,000 square kilometres of rolling savannah, lakes, rivers and deltas, it is four times the size of the Serengeti and larger than the entire nation of Switzerland. Home to the largest concentrations of elephants in the world, this unique wildlife arena also boasts some of the most exclusive and pioneering boating safaris that Africa has to offer. Elephants, hippopotami, African wild dogs, cape buffalos and crocodiles are relatively easy to find and photograph. Selous Game Reserve is special because of the many rivers that come together. At these rivers it s easy for the animals to find food and water so it s not very difficult to find them. Interesting places in the park including the Rufiji River, which opens into the Indian Ocean across from Mafia Island, and the Stiegler George, a canyon of 100 meters wide and 100 meters deep. Habitats include grassland, typical acacia savannah, drasland and extensive Miombo forests. Even on busy days it is still not overpopulated, and you do not have to drive Selous to enjoy the diversity of wildlife another advantage, which makes Selous unique. The accommodation The Safari Camp is located at the edge of the Selous Game Reserve on a very unique location. The camp is equipped with all the comforts and facilities you would find in any modern hotel. Around Selous and the camp there are no fences, giving you a prime spot right in the heart of the wild animals own habitat. Discover footprints of elephants and/or impalas, just steps from your front door. Please don t be afraid; the resort is designed in such a way that safety is ensured within the camp at all times. Enjoy a relaxing swim in the pool after a full day on safari, or come and relax in the lounge bar where you can read a book quietly with birds singing at the background. Treat yourself to a first-class meal at the restaurant while watching the wild animals coming to drink from the pond.
