Match reports from Grand finals 7 Grand Final U11 Reds vs Dundas Shamrocks Yellow On a beautiful Spring morning at Leichhardt Oval, the stage was set for the Grand Final replay between the undefeated U11 Reds and Dundas Shamrock Yellows. The Reds went into the big one with the knowledge that they had not scored a point in their past two Grand final appearances, but they wouldn t have to wait long to break that hoodoo. Following a wonderful kick off by Tane Edmed that found the dead ball line, the Reds were immediately on the attack. Within the first set of six, a barnstorming run by Sosaia Teakaraanga got the Reds off to the perfect start, taking a 6-0 lead. The Reds maintained their structure and ball control with the forward pack making ground down the middle of the park and providing a strong platform for the fleet footed outside backs. However a string of penalties mid way through the first half gave the Yellows field position, ultimately leading to a try and tying up the game at 6-6. As they have done all year, the Reds knew they could bounce back, and just before half time, a half gap was all the electrifying Lewis Parfitt needed to break the deadlock. Half time 12-6 to the Reds. The Red showed tremendous poise and control in the second half, and despite a lopsided penalty count, continued to resist everything the Yellows threw at them. A wonderful individual try by Marco Micalizzi mid way through the second half put the Reds in front 18-6. The Yellows never gave up and came within millimetres of scoring late in the game, but were denied by wonderful defensive work by Riley Wellfare, Bailey Cox and Harrison Akdeniz. Fulltime and the Reds had finally secured the premiership they so richly deserved. Man of the Match Ben Cody was outstanding, but this was a real team effort. Congratulations to all the boys and hope they will all be back to in 2012 to defend their title. Go the Wanderers.
