Fresher s Infern0 15 14th 16th August Pre-Conduction Report Submitted by: Surya Prakash Overall Coordinators: Nicku Nitish Gaurav Singh Vivek Dubey Introduction: Fresher s Inferno is scheduled to be held from the 14 th -16 th of August, 2015. The vision of this is to find a pool of talented students who can take part in Inter-IIT, to encourage sportsmanship, to promote and create a better harmony, understanding and friendly interaction among the students of the IITK as well to foster a close association among them and to provide a platform for every student to get a taste of competitive sports and team play. Meetings were held to decide the rules and competitions to be held, regulations, schedule, point system etc. The pool structure is according to the final decision of Senate. Core Team: The core team shall consist of the following members: 1) Surya Prakash (General Secretary, Games and Sports) 2) Nicku Nitish (Coordinator, Inferno) 3) Gaurav Singh (Coordinator, Inferno) 4) Vivek Dubey (Coordinator, Inferno) Besides these there are event coordinators who will be assisting in the conduction of the festival. Taking recommendations from previous general secretaries, efforts were made to book sporting facilities for conduction of intra-hall trials. Event Description: 1. Badminton Singles: Matches will be conducted in an individual format rather than in a team championship format. 7 entries will be taken from each Boys pool and 4 entries will be taken from girl s pool. Draws will be made through lottery. Regular knockout format till the finals will be followed. Each victory of a player will earn 2 points for the boy s pool and 4 points for the girls pool. The one who finishes 1 st will get a bonus of 5 point with no victory points. The one who finishes 2 nd will get a bonus of 3 points. The one who finishes 3 rd will get a bonus of 2 point with no victory points. The one who finishes 4 th will get no bonus points. Points of halls in the same pool would be added and the pool with highest points will get 10 GC points, the pool in 2 nd place 7 GC points and so on. All matches will be conducted in a best of 3 formats with one set of 15 points. 3. Badminton Doubles: 1 pair will be taken per pool. 4 P a g e
League format will be applied between teams and one who tops the league gets 10 GC points and so on. All matches will be conducted in a best of 3 formats with one set of 21 points. 4. Basketball: 1 team per pool with 12 players each will be taken. League format will be applied between teams and one who tops the league gets 10 GC points and so on. There will be 2 quarters of 15 minutes each. 5. Chess 2 entries will be taken per pool. 1 point will be given for a win, 0.5 point for a draw and 0 for a loss. League format will be applied between teams. The pool with highest points will get 5 GC points, the pool in 2 nd place 3.5 GC points and so on. 6. Phatta: 1 team per pool will be taken with 9 players a side. League format will be applied between teams. Each inning will be of 10 overs. 2 bowlers will be allowed to bowl a maximum of 3 overs. The GC points will be 10 points for 1 st place, 6 points for 2 nd and so on 7. Football: 1 team per pool will be taken (Among 16 players, 5 subs). Matches will be conducted in a knockout format. League format will be applied between teams. Halves will be of 20 minutes each with a break of 5 minutes. 8. Lawn Tennis: 1 team consisting of 4 players will be taken from each pool. League format will be applied between teams. The matches between the pools will be played in order 1 st singles doubles-2 nd singles. The pool in 1 st place will get 15 GC points, the pool in 2 nd place 10.5 GC points and so on All matches will be conducted in one set win format. 5 P a g e
9. Squash: 2 entries will be taken from each pool. Draws will be made through lottery. Regular knockout format till the finals will be followed. The pool in 1 st place will get 10 GC points, the pool in 2 nd place 6 GC points and so on All matches will be conducted in a best of 3 formats with one set of 11 points. 10. Table Tennis: 7 entries will be taken from each boy s pool and 4 entries will be taken from girls pool. Draws will be made through lottery. Regular knockout format will be followed Point structure will be similar to that of badminton s All matches will be conducted in a best of 3 formats with one set of 15 points. 11. Volleyball: 1 team per pool will be taken. League format will be applied between teams The GC points will be 10 points for 1 st place, 6 points for 2 nd and so on Matches will be conducted in a best of 3 formats with one set of 25 points. 12. Powerlifting: There will be three categories: - below 62 kg, 63-77 kg and above 77 kg. 2 entries will be taken per pool per category. Each player will have to perform three lifts: - deadlift, bench press and squats. The weights of the three events will be added to calculate his cumulative weight. The GC points will be 10 points for 1 st place, 6 points for 2 nd and so on 13. Sports Quiz: There will be open entries for the prelims of the sports quiz and each team will consist of three members. The top two teams from each pool will be selected for the finals considering their performance in the prelims. Pools which qualify in the poster making event will get a head start of 20 points. 14. Wall Climbing: Event Speed Climbing Two entries will take part in the speed climbing competition. Each team will be given two chances. Best timing of the 4 attempts will be considered. NOTE Leaving the wall in any stage will end that attempt. Timer will be paused in between change intervals. Touching the hooks on the wall in any form will lead to disqualification. 15. Kho-kho -: 1 team from each pool will be taken League format will be applied between teams. The GC points will be 5 for 1 st place,3.5 for second and so on 16. Card and board games: It will consist of two events- poker and carrom with both events carrying 2.5 GC points 2 players from each pool forming a team will participate in carrom and will play league format game. 2 players from each pool will participate in poker 17) Skating There will be only one event- Speed skating. Every pool will have a team of 2 members. Each participant will be given 2 trials of which best will be chosen for final scoring. For final scoring, weightage of best timing will be 50% and average of the two will be 50%. The rules will be provided on the spot by the co-ordinators. Disruption/Postponement: Any event abandoned, or disrupted due to unavoidable reasons shall be postponed or Continued as the case may be and as per rules specified in the current rules of the respective Federations/ Associations. In case where the Federation/ Association rules cannot be implemented, the decision will be left to the General Secretary, Sports, whose decision shall be final. Conduct/Protest: For all games and sports, the decisions of the Referees/Umpires will be final and binding and no protest will be entertained. Therefore any team leaving the field of play as a mark 7 P a g e
of protest and conceding a walk over shall be deemed to have lost the fixture and will be eliminated from the event. Only the remaining teams will be considered as participants in that event. A team/competitor shall be permitted a grace time of 15 minutes from the announced timing of an event and then a walkover shall be awarded unless genuine reasons beyond control are presented and accepted by the core team. The umpire present may take an independent decision at his discretion with consent from the participating teams and General Secretary, Sports or Festival Coordinator. Grievance Redressal Committee: Any grievances not solved by the organizing team shall go to the GRC.
