The 2018 One Love Century Bike Ride for Charity Sponsorship Opportunity The One Love Century: The most diverse, successful Georgia bicycling event of the year 2017 In 2005 the Metro Atlanta Cycling Club (MACC) created the One Love Century as a way to contribute to our community by supporting programs that build and sustain youth cycling opportunities in metro Atlanta. The 2018 Beneficiaries The BRAG Dream Team was founded in 1994 by the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia with the goal of giving kids from low income households the chance to ride across the state on a bicycle and own that bicycle when they finished. Working with adult mentors and coaches, the program still does BRAG each year, but has also rode the route of the Underground Railroad, and from the King Center in Atlanta to the King Memorial in Washington, DC. The One Love Century was created to provide a source of funding for the Dream Team. The East Atlanta Kids Club is a nonprofit mentoring and enrichment program for children ages 7 to 17 who live in southeast Atlanta. EAKC provides a safe and nurturing environment where kids can play, relax, learn, create, and express themselves under supervision of caring adults. The DLV Youth Cycling League can be seen on the track at the Dick Lane Velodrome in East Point. DLV's Youth Cycling League was started in 2003 as a way to provide programming for youth and young cyclists in the local East Point area. DLV runs over 50 sessions each year with total youth participation in the program at around 1000. WeCycle Atlanta is a community bike shop and bicycle advocacy organization based out of the Historic Westend Atlanta. In July 2011 the organization was formed to serve the surrounding community by highlighting and promoting the many benefits that comes with cycling. Bearings Bike Shop is a youth development organization where kids can earn and maintain a bicycle while developing skills and character essential to success. Bearings serves areas with high crime rates and low employment. Since 2009 hundreds of kids have engaged in the shop and over 625 bikes have been earned and 4500 learning hours have been logged where kids have been taught bike maintenance and safety. Cycles and Change believes cycling is a catalyst for change, one person at a time and that access to such a powerful tool should be available regardless of race, gender, religion or financial position. The organization operates programs in schools and community centers to reach at-risk kids, and provides outreach to women cyclists with beginner classes, welcoming group rides, and in founding Women Bike Atlanta. Urban Creek Comservation and Recreation Corps works with the community on conservation and maintenance of parks and urban green spaces by teaching youth technical and hands on training in developing and maintaining the natural environment in parks and urban green spaces.
The Experience What a great ride! I am new to cycling, and I couldn't believe how much fun 62 mi. could be! I signed up and rode with a friend, but I really felt as though I was with 100+ friends! Everyone was so friendly, and it made for a great vibe! Also, the snacks we yummy!!! I will keep this one on my calendar for years to come. Thanks for your efforts in the community! Janet Pilling With over 900 cyclists participating in the ride, the One Love Century continues to grow, and the positive response by our participants reflects MACC s focus on excellence and our attention to detail. The ride starts and ends at Stonewall Tell Elementary School in Fulton County, GA. Options include 16, 27, 41, 63, and 100 mile rides. Route traverses gently rolling terrain in South Fulton County, Rico, Palmetto and Coweta County. These popular roads are known as Silk Sheets among local riders. The ride is organized and put on by the members of the Metro Atlanta Cycling Club, as a labor of love and a gift back to the cycling community and it has raised more than $120,000 in gifts to some great organizations.
