Indoor Soccer Tournament Rules & Guidelines Information The Indoor World Cup Soccer Tournament is a philanthropic event co-sponsored by Campus Recreation and the Center for International Studies to raise funds for Kiva. Teams play 6-on-6 soccer on an indoor soccer court with rounded corners. All Proceeds will be donated to support growing entrepreneurs in low income countries. The donations will go into loans to change lives. Guidelines: Teams must have a minimum of four players and a maximum of six players on the court for each game. All teams are co-ed. You cannot have more than 3 guys on the court at one time. All teams will be in one bracket Substitutions: You may do this at any time, just let the referee know before doing so. Additional Notes 1. Be 10-15 minutes early to your games. Late arrivals will forfeit their games. 2. Don t forget your student IDs for check-in to the Spencer Student Recreation Center. 3. Have you captain check-in with one of the Special Events graduate assistants before each game. 4. Report the score of your game to the registration table. This is when you will find out when your next game is. 5. The tournament is a double elimination tournament. Players, Substitutes, and Spectators Unlimited substitutions may be made at any time on the fly except prior to a penalty kick. The incoming player may not enter the court until the outgoing player has touched the incoming player (hand slap, etc.) at the entry point. PENALTY: free kick from spot at the time of infraction. All spectators and substitutes for both courts must remain in the hallway behind goal and out of the field of play. Team captains are responsible for the behavior of their spectators. Unsportsmanlike behavior will be dealt with swiftly and severely. PLAYER PENALTY: red card, ejection. SPECTATOR PENALTY: spectator(s) will have to leave gym; team captain will receive yellow or red card at referee s discretion. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME! A minimum of four (4) players must be ready to play at the scheduled game time or the team will receive a forfeit or default. Three (3) players constitute a default. Two (2) or less players constitute a forfeit.

Slaughter rule: Up by 7 goals with 4 minutes left to play or up by 10 with 6 minutes left to play Equipment and Playing Area Footwear is limited to sneakers or tennis shoes with non-scuffing, rubber soles. No turf shoes will be permitted! The playing area consists of the designated floor space in the MAC Gym. MAC Boundaries: The gray line and the portion below it is in play. Doors, fire extinguisher cases, etc., are in play. The semi-circular penalty area (the box) extends from each goalmouth to the solid threepoint (basketball) line. A ball which strikes any part of the ceiling, basketball backboards, goals or nets, the wall above the gray line is out of play. PENALTY: Free kick from the point where the ball went out of play. EXCEPTION: If the ball is played out of bounds by the defense over their end line, a corner kick will result. If the ball is played out of bounds by the offense over their opponent s end line, a goal kick will result. If the ball moves the goal or comes to rest on the back of the goal, a change of possession will occur. PENALTY: A goal kick will occur if the offensive team was the last to touch the ball, and a corner kick will occur if the defensive team was the last to touch the ball. Following a score, and to begin each period, the ball is put in play at the center of the court with an indirect kick (which may or may not move forward). Timing The game consists of two 12-minute halves with a running clock and a 3-minute halftime. The clock does not stop after goals, but any intentional delay of game will result in the captain being carded and a free kick for the opponent. There will be a 3-minute sudden death overtime period. If still tied, the winner will be decided by penalty kicks. A coin flip will decide which team kicks first. Each team shall choose three players from those on the court at the time the game ended. Each player will have an opportunity to score as teams alternate. The team with more goals scored wins. If still tied, the remaining team members on the court will take alternating kicks in sudden death penalty kicks. The first team to score while preventing the other team from scoring will win. No player may kick twice in the second round until all members of the team have kicked. If every player on the court has kicked and no winner has been decided, each player will kick a second time, still alternating in a sudden death format. Only the players on the court when the overtime period ended are eligible to kick overtime penalty kicks. Ejected players are not eligible.

Penalty Kicks In addition to breaking ties, a penalty kick will be awarded when an offensive player is fouled or a handball occurs in the box. The officials shall then place the ball on the mid court spot and the player taking the kick will, on the whistle of the Referee, play the ball from mid court and attempt to score on the goalkeeper. The player may dribble the ball for a maximum of five (5) seconds before attempting a shot. The ball must be kept in motion towards the opponent's goal line and once an attempt on goal has been made, the play shall be considered complete. No goal can be scored on a rebound of any kind (an exception being the ball off the goal post, then the goalkeeper and then directly into the goal), and any time the ball crosses the goal line, the kick shall be considered complete. Only a player designated as a goalkeeper or alternate goalkeeper may defend against the penalty kick. The goalkeeper must remain in their crease until the player taking the penalty shot has touched the ball and in the event of violation of this Rule or any foul committed by a goalkeeper, the Referee shall allow the kick to be taken and if the kick fails, they shall permit the penalty kick to be taken over again. Goalkeeper Rules The goalie shall have 10 seconds after picking up or catching the ball to throw to a teammate or to drop it to the floor to be played with the feet (in which case it becomes a live ball, playable by either team). Delay of game PENALTY for holding the ball too long: free kick from half court line. After dropping the ball, the keeper may not again touch the ball with the hands until it has left the box and touched another player. Exception: A goalie may never touch the ball with the hands after a teammate has passed the ball back to the goalie using his/her feet. PENALTY: free kick from the halfcourt line. A ball that is kicked out-of-bounds by the offense over its opponent s end line above the gray line is put in play with a goalie kick. A goalie kick is a free kick, taken by the goalie on his/her free throw line. Opposing players may not advance on the goalie when the ball is in his/her hands. PENALTY: goalie kick, possible card. The goalie may not punt or drop-kick the ball. There is no limit on the number of steps the goalie may take in the box while in possession of the ball.
