The club instills respnsibility, respect, caring and hnesty fr their team, their club, the caches and parents. We recgnize that each player is at a different skill level and develpmental stage. Therefre we make an effrt t place each player in an envirnment that creates a feeling f self-wrth, self-cnfidence and achievement. 3 Prgram Placement: Prgram Placement is the Intensity Dream System used t evaluate players and place them n a Team Caches will evaluate players thrughut the prgram Our gal is t place players n a team with ther players f similar ages & abilities, in rder t ensure a cmfrtable playing experience. Players will be evaluated at their grade level If numbers permit, 2 r mre teams can be develped at each grade level Selectin f Intensity Traveling Teams: The number f Traveling and League teams selected will be determined based n the fllwing factrs: Number f registered participants Qualified Caches Gym availability Financial resurces Skill level f participants, which are determined by the Intensity evaluatrs during practices thrughut the year. The numbers f players n each team are: 7 10 players Exceptins are determined by evaluatin f each team and situatin Player Placement If an pening becmes available r a team has an pening n their rster, players may still be added with the fllwing criteria: Cach must ntify Intensity Crdinatr Player infrmatin presented t Intensity Crdinatr Apprval given by Intensity Crdinatr and/r Executive Directr
4 Seasn, the 2014-15 Intensity Dream Traveling Basketball Prgram will supprt 4-5 teams frm grades 3-8 with the expectatin that resurces such as enugh cmmitted players, qualified caches, & gym space is available. Players wh are placed n a Team are asked t make a ne-year cmmitment t that team. Caches: Caches will be selected using the fllwing guidelines: Individuals wh have a gd understanding f the game f basketball, including the rules and fundamentals Individuals wh have the ability t teach individual and team basketball fundamentals Individuals wh lk t mtivate and encurage their players cntinually, during bth practices and games. Individuals wh have the willingness t have pen cmmunicatin with bth players and parents Individuals wh are willing t instill the club philsphy t their team Individuals wh attend the Annual Intensity Caches Clinic Must make a ne year cmmitment Backgrund checks will be dne by DDC fr all caches and vlunteers Financial Respnsibilities: A. Prgram Registratin Players will be asked t assist in securing spnsrships t supprt annual seasn fees. B. Fundraising All Intensity players are required t participate in all fundraising activities. C. Unifrm players are financially respnsible fr the lss, damage, repair and/r replacement f unifrms r warm-ups.
5 Cnduct & Behavir A. Each player must always be aware f their fficial representatin f the Dubuque Dream Center Intensity Basketball prgram, staff and members. All players must cnduct themselves in a manner that reflects the best pssible image fr the rganizatin. At all times, individuals shuld exhibit high standards r behavir, psitive attitudes, gd taste and high mral character. Any disrespect t yur cach is grunds fr dismissal under cach discretin. B. Negative r bad attitudes will nt be tlerated C. NO prfane language, using drugs r alchl, using bscene gestures, r any ther actin deemed inapprpriate by the Cach. D. The Cach is respnsible fr the discipline f the team. A player may be suspended r dismissed frm the team if it is determined t be in he best interest f the Dubuque Dream Center, the cach, and/r the team. E. Players wh quit r are remved frm the team fr nn-cmpliance t any rules may be ineligible fr games r future participatin in the prgram. Schl suspensin r academic trubles can result in disciplinary actin. F. As highly visible members f the Dubuque Dream Center player s actins are under cnstant bservatin. Abslutely while in unifrm, but als while nt in unifrm, players are knwn, and subject t scrutiny fr inapprpriate behavirs. Intensity Players shuld use gd judgment at all times. G. Players shall nt cnsume drugs, alchlic beverages, r any illegal substances. Players wh vilate this rule will receive disciplinary actin. H. In general D.D.C. prgrams will incrprate 3-strike system when applying cnsequences. D.D.C. vlunteers and staff shuld use judgment hwever and can apply cnsequences prir t the 3-strike system. D.D.C. will utilize "R & R" (Respect Reminders) and D.D.C. Dllars fr cnsequences and rewards. Strikes shuld be recrded n kitchen bard. General cnsequences include: 1. Staff and player cunsel 2. R & R's 3. Reductin f activity participatin (this includes practice, r game playing time) 4. Nn-participatin in field-trips 5. Parent Cntact 6. Parent Meeting 7. Prgram suspensin
6 The Seasn: Practice Plicies A. ALL PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY! Yu must cntact the cach directly if there is an emergency, which causes a player t miss. Players are expected t attend all practices and turnament games unless excused by Head Cach B. Practices can be scheduled Mnday-Saturday. If additinal practices are needed, days r times are changed; parents & players will be ntified in advance. Practices are scheduled accrding t gym availability, caches schedule, and team dynamics. Practices will be scheduled fllwing registratin. C. Practices will begin in September. Each Team will practice a minimum f 2 times per week fr the duratin f the seasn. D. Practices will take place at the Dubuque Dream Center and ther lcatins. Please read yur practice schedule in advance and carefully. E. All players and parents will receive mnthly calendars. F. N gum r candy will be allwed during practices. Water may be brught in clseable cntainers G. Practice Attire: Lse fitting athletic clthing. Players must be cmpletely dressed and ready t g, befre they enter gym area. Players shuld have shes tied, hair up, etc. Nne basketball shes, bare feet, sandals are nt allwed. H. N cell phnes/calls will be tlerated during practices. League & Turnament Plicies Teams will cmpete in 3-12 turnaments during the 2014-2015 seasn including the DYSA and Bys & Girls Club league. The seasn ges frm Octber thrugh March. A. Attendance is mandatry. B. Players must be cmpletely dressed and ready t g 30 minutes befre a league game and 45 minutes befre a Turnament game. C. Hair must be up and ff the face at all times. D. Unifrms and shes must be clean. E. Fingernails must be trimmed. F. Cach will evaluate player appearance. G. Players must stay with teammates during the Turnaments & League games at all times. This includes fd trips, stre runs, etc. Parents are nt allwed t plan fr players t g anywhere apart frm the team. (Exceptins at Caches discretin) H. At least ne cach r Parent Assistant is t supervise players at all times. I. Player shuld infrm cach f trips t cncessin, bathrm, etc. and must g with anther player. J. N alchlic beverages, cigarettes, drugs, etc. are allwed in the presence f players. K. During Turnament weekends, players must abide by curfew set by Caches discretin.
7 Player Attendance Plicy. *Caches are t be ntified in advance f any absences r if player is t be late N Call - N Shw culd result in disciplinary actin. Unexcused absences can include : -Cach nt ntified in a timely manner -Absences nt apprved in advance by the cach -Absences due t cnflicts with ther sprts r nn-schl/church related activities. Excused absences can include: - Absence due t injury r illness f player. - Absences due t serius illness r death f family member. Absences due t church related activities. - Absences due t scheduled schl sprts. - Absences due t special schl assignments. *Players shuld NOT be cnsequenced fr EXCUSED absences at team practices, games, and team functins. Cnsequences f unexcused absences: (NOTE: Excessive tardiness will als result in the fllwing) A player is cnsidered late if the player is nt dressed ut n the curt by the scheduled practice time Missing 1 practice Verbal warning frm the cach. Missing 2 practices Player des nt play in the first 10 minutes r 1 st quarter f each game f the turnament t fllw. Missing 3 practices Player des nt play in the fllwing turnament, but is required t attend the turnament. Missing 4 r mre practices Cnsideratin is made fr further actin. The D.D.C. caches staff will make final decisin. Missing 1 Turnament Player des nt play in the first half f each f the next three scheduled games. Missing 2 Turnaments Player des nt play in the fllwing turnament, but is required t attend the turnament. Missing 3 r mre Turnaments Cnsideratin is made fr further actin. The D.D.C. caches staff will make final decisin. Our gal is fr players t be dedicated t their team and their teammates. We understand that there can be instances where a player has t miss a practice r a game. We als want the player t be respnsible and ntify their caches f an upcming situatin in a timely manner s the cach can make the necessary adjustments.
8 Player Guidelines 60/40 playing time fr the seasn. Playing time may vary frm game t game. Playing time will be determined by the fllwing factrs: Respectful/gd attitude twards the cach & players Cmmitment t the team Wrk ethic each practice Game situatins Skill level All players will play in every game unless; 1) the player is being penalized fr unexcused absences, 2) if the cach deems the player injured and nt physically able t participate, r 3) because f a disciplinary actin. Disciplinary actins must be cmmunicated t the parents and apprpriate Travel Basketball Directr. 9 Health & Nutritin Basketball Players must be excellent athletes. Stretching befre practices, games, etc. is mandatry. Players must demnstrate the crdinatin, athleticism, and flexibility, which is necessary in basketball. An injury must be reprted t the cach immediately. The cach must apprve an absence frm practice, game, etc. due t a player attending an appintment with a persnal physician, in advance. If an injury r illness incapacitates a player, they will nt be permitted t practice r play fr a perid f time as determined by their physician and the cach. Gd nutritinal habits are encuraged thrughut the seasn. Caches shuld prvide encuragement and guidance. Cnflict Reslutin: Parents Please respect the caches fr their decisins. A cach's decisin is nt questinable. Please dn t cach yur child frm the sideline during the game. If yu have an issue, speak t the cach at an apprpriate time. Player issues are t be directed t the head cach f a team. They are t be reslved at a nn-game situatin (i.e. befre r after practice if cach apprves, separate scheduled meeting, etc). Players are encuraged t speak with the cach themselves, then, if necessary, the parents shuld cntact the cach. If reslutin cannt be attained in this manner, a meeting with all necessary parties may be called if deemed necessary. Remember: Caches and parents are facilitatrs in making this a prductive and enjyable experience.
