FM (Monroe) Monroe, La. Malone Stadium (30,427) FIRST AND TEN ULM opened its 85th season of football as the Warhawks fell 51-14 to No. 9 Georgia in a game marred by bad weather. The contest was called with nine minutes, 54 seconds to play after play was suspended for lightning a second time. ULM has a 22-3 edge in the series over, with the last meeting being a 27-21 win in 2000. head coach Tim Rebowe was the cornerbacks coach at ULM from 2001-03 and served as the interim head coach from April-May 2013 between Mike Collins and Charlie Weatherbie s tenures. This is his first year with the Colonels. ULM s game with marks the sixth consecutive year that the Warhawks have had a non-conference game against a Louisiana school (LSU in 2014, Tulane 2012-13, Grambling State 2011, Southeastern Louisiana 2010). Garrett Smith put forth an outstanding first impression against Georgia. The redshirt freshman completed 18 of his first 20 passes and ended the day 23-for-29 against the preseason SEC East favorite. He also had touchdown strikes for 22 and 29 yards to Rashon Ceaser. Smith s first score capped off an eight-play, 75-yard march that took under two minutes. He also continued a couple of drives with shifty first-down rushes, including a 24-yard scoot up the middle. Ceaser was far and away the best receiver on the field Saturday. He had career-highs of 13 catches and 153 yards against the Bulldog defense, while no other receiver on either team had more than three catches. ULM returns its top four tacklers from last year. Michael Johnson had a game-high eight stops and Ben Banogu added four in his first collegiate appearance and start. The Warhawk defense, ranked in the top-10 in FBS for three categories in 2014, was dealt a tough hand in the early goings of Saturday s loss. They held Georgia to a threeand-out to begin the game, but great field position by the Bulldogs off of a blocked punt and interception led to ensuing touchdown drives of two plays and 21 yards and one play for 15 yards, respectively. Saturday s road contest at Georgia marked the first time since the 2012 season that the Warhawks opened their season against an SEC Opponent (vs. No. 8 Arkansas, W, 34-31, OT, Little Rock, Ark., September 8). During the FBS-era (1994-pres.), ULM has opened the season against the SEC a total of seven times (at Ole Miss, 2002; at No. 14 LSU, 2003; at No. 17 Auburn, 2004; at No. 10 Auburn, 2008; vs. No. 14 Arkansas (Little Rock), 2010; vs. No. 8 Arkansas (Little Rock), 2012; at No. 9 Georgia, 2015). During the FBS-era, the Warhawks have opened the season on the road a total of 13 times, most recently in 2015 (at No. 9 Georgia, Sept. 5). OFFENSIVE STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONOREE After recording career highs in both receptions and receiving yards on Saturday at No. 9 Georgia, Rashon Ceaser has been named the Sun Belt Conference s Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday, September 7, 2015... Ceaser hauled in a career-best 13 catches and went over the 150 yard mark for the first time in his career as he tallied 153 receiving yards... He also tied a career high with two touchdown receptions in the contest against the Bulldogs. His 13 grabs are tied for third in ULM single-game history and it marks the second time in the Warhawks last three games that a player had 13

receptions (Kenzee Jackson, 13, at, Nov. 22, 2014)... Ceaser s 13 catches pushed his career total to 175 and he now ranks sixth in ULM history... His 153 yards increased his career total to 2,251 as he moved from eighth to fifth in program history. LOOKING BACK AT GEORGIA The Basics Score: No. 9 Georgia 51, ULM 14 Records: No. 9 Georgia 1-0, ULM 0-1 Location: Sanford Stadium Athens, Ga. Attendance: 92,746 How It Happened Georgia scored a pair of touchdowns in the opening quarter and took a 14-0 lead as Nick Chubb (rushing) and Jeb Blazevich (receiving) found the endzone. In the second quarter, the Bulldogs tallied three total touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) to extend the lead to 35-0. The Warhawks broke through with their first score of the contest, a 22-yard pass from Garrett Smith to Rashon Ceaser with 20 seconds to play until intermission. Ceaser caught four passes and Smith finished 6-for-7 on the drive for 70 yards. ULM opened the second half with a seven-play, 74-yard drive that resulted in the second TD pass of the game from Smith to Ceaser. Smith finished the drive 4-for-4 for 67 yards. With 8:35 to play in the third quarter, lightning was detected in the area, causing a delay of one hour and one minute. Georgia tallied nine points in the third quarter on a safety and a touchdown pass. The home team concluded the scoring in Saturday s game with a fourth quarter touchdown. After the second lightning delay of the game, the game was called with 9:54 to play in the game. The game being called was an agreement between both head coaches and both athletics directors. Inside (and Beyond) The Box Score ULM kicked off it is 85th season of collegiate football on Saturday. Game captains ULM: Rashon Ceaser (offense), Gerrand Johnson (defense), Alex Johnson (special teams). Game Captains Georgia: Jordan Jenkins, John Theus, Kolton Houston, Leonard Floyd. Georgia won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. Two true freshman made starts in Saturday s season opener at Georgia (punter Chris Qualls; wide receiver RJ Turner). Four redshirt freshmen and one sophomore made their first career starts on Saturday (defensive lineman Ben Banogu; kicker Craig Ford; offensive lineman Keaton Baggs; offensive lineman Jeff Savage [So.]; quarterback Garrett Smith). Rashon Ceaser s first quarter reception pushed his streak to 32 consecutive games with at least one reception. David Griffith recorded his first career sack in the second quarter of Saturday s contest. RJ Turner hauled in his first collegiate pass, a 17-yard reception in the second quarter. On ULM s first scoring drive, Rashon Ceaser moved into sole possession of seventh place in program history in career receptions. In the third quarter, Rashon Ceaser hauled in a 16-yard reception to set a new career-high in yardage as he went over the 140-yard mark for the first time in his career. The senior went on to finish with 153 receiving yards on a career-best 13 grabs. He tied a career-high with two touchdown receptions. Garrett Smith finished 23-of-29 for 206 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 26 yards. Michael Johnson led the Warhawk defense with eight total tackles (three solo). Ben Banogu finished with four tackles (three solo) in his first collegiate game. ROAD WARRIORS At a quick glance, it s not hard to notice the Warhawks play a total of 13 games this season... What may get overlooked is that ULM plays a total of eight games away from the friendly confines of JPS Field at Malone Stadium... ULM is the only FBS program this season that will play a total of eight road games... Via Google Maps the distance from JPS Field at Malone Stadium to all eight road venues comes to a total of 8,612 miles and that is just one direction -- double that amount and the round trip from ULM to each road venue comes to 17,224 miles. Not only do the Warhawks play a total of eight road games this season, they have a stretch in late October to early November where they play three consecutive conference games... The Warhawks open up the stretch with an October 24th contest inside the Kibbie Dome... A week later, on Halloween, the Warhawks battle in-state rival UL Lafayette at Cajun Field... The three-game road stretch comes to a close on Nov. 7 with a Sun Belt tilt. Quick Facts Location Monroe, La.
