February Team Newsletter Would you like to contribute to our new monthly newsletter? Let us know when your team is playing each month, what you re doing for fund-raising, and any exciting news or pictures you want to share. Do you have a player that s doing something great on or off the ice? Submissions are due by the third Wednesday of each month before the CCYHA board meeting. Send us an e- mail at: l a k e r s n e w s l e t t e r @ g m a i l. c o m. Message from the Board of Directors Please join us for our board meetings on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see how you can help our association grow the game! Here are some notes from our last meeting It s that time of year again. If you, or someone you know, is interested in any coaching position for the 2015-2016 hockey season, coaching applications are due by February s board meeting on Wednesday, February 18 th at 6:30 p.m. Coaching applications can be submitted to Joe Hirliman or Bud Tomassi. Anyone interested in serving on our Board of Directors should sign up on the bulletin board downstairs at the ice arena before the next board meeting. The following board positions are available: Coaching Coordinator Secretary VP of Travel Uh-oh! Do you have a past-due ice bill? Those $10 per month late fees (starting February 1 st ) can really add up, and bills must be paid in full in order to tryout for next season. Payments can be given to our treasurer (Christine Munson), your team manager, or be made online by visiting our website at: http://jamestownlakers.com/member-resources/make-a-payment. HockeyMania Fundrasier Results The HockeyMania tickets were a success. Thank you to all that participated. This was our mandatory fundraiser for ADM through Midgets. For those who did not turn in tickets and money, please be prepared to receive a bill for the number of unsold tickets. Each family was responsible for five tickets (total of $100). This, and any other fees owed by families, must be paid by tryouts in order for players to take the ice.

The association sold 749 tickets of the 1500 that were purchased. We have had 8 winners. We could have had 15 more winners if the tickets were sold; two of those prizes were for $300 and two for $150. That s how good this fundraiser is and how it works in our favor. Don t be surprised to see it again next year! Congratulations to our WINNING ticket holders: Chad Ecklof $25 sold by Jacob Ecklof, Beginner Ken Krupinski $50 sold by Carson Olson Squirt A Melissa Moyer $300 sold by Bryce Moyer U18 Midget Joe Hirliman $25 sold by Baylor & Brenden Hirliman ADM & PEEWEE A Bryan Kennedy $25 sold by Nila Ecklof Beginner Chris Kenyon $50 sold by Jacob Owen Squirt A Janice Ellis $75 sold by Blade Ellis Bantam Dennelle Michalski $50 sold by Gavin Michalski U16 All prize money to date has been sent out as of January 27, 2015. Prizes will be sent out monthly. We had 11 skaters participate in selling additional tickets for the fundraiser. Thank you all. Carson Olson sold a total of 20 tickets $75 off ice bill Branden Decker & Lydia Covert sold a total of 15 tickets $50 off ice bill Ashton & Cole Munson sold a total of 15 tickets $50 off ice bill Zack Jordan sold a total of 14 tickets $45 off ice bill Aiden Finnerty sold a total of 10 tickets $25 off ice bill Jackob & Patrick Guimond sold a total of 10 tickets $25 off ice bill Peyton & Caden Maxon sold a total of 9 tickets $20 off ice bill Austin Mason sold a total of 8 tickets $15 off ice bill Collin Norlander sold a total of 8 tickets $15 off ice bill James Tridicio sold a total of 8 tickets $15 off ice bill Declan Brown sold a total of 7 tickets $10 off ice bill Carson Olson has also won the Grand Prize of a $250 Pure Hockey gift card. Branden Decker and Lydia Covert have also won the Second Place prize of a $150 Pure Hockey gift card. Ashton & Cole Munson have also won the Second Place prize of a $150 Pure Hockey gift card. Food for thought: Please be prepared for an increase in ice bills next year. We can combat this with more fundraising efforts, but we need your help. If you have any ideas or would like to volunteer to help, please come to the monthly board meetings. We have had some really great ideas already put before us, but we need your participation to make them work. (This is separate from the Mid-Winter Classic volunteer efforts.) Tryouts are coming up, and so is our Hockey 500 Club. Be on the lookout for more information soon!

Our Mid-Winter Classic tournament is coming up President s Day weekend. We need volunteers to help with the bake sale, score sheets, time clock, and more. Team managers will be in charge of sign-ups for each team. As many of you know from past years, our bake sale is quite a successful event. This year we are going to do everything we can to make is just as spectacular as previous years. If each family could please bring in homemade or store bought items to the rink for us to sell at the tournament on Friday, February 13th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., it would be greatly appreciated. This way we can get everything set up and ready to sell for our first games at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14th. The more people who are able to bring their items in on Friday the better, so we are prepared. Please bring items packaged and ready to sell, either in baggies or wrapped. It is always good to have many different options, so some pairs of cookies and even plates with six on them are great ideas. Please remember that grandparents are welcome and even begged to help. The more bakers, the better! Some fantastic options from our successful past are: Cookies Cupcakes Doughnuts Chocolate Pucks and Hockey Themed candies Chips Ring Pops and other assorted candy Breads Pies Brownies Slim Jims Rice Krispie Treats Please feel free to use your imagination and bring your favorite item. Many of our players will also be participating in the 24 Hour James(Hockey)town event coming up at the rink Friday, February 27 th at 7 p.m. to Saturday, February 28 th at 7 p.m. The rink will host 24 hours of non-stop hockey with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the WCA Heart Center in recognition of February American Heart Month. The rink will also provide opportunities for attendees to go online and nominate our very own Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena at www.krafthockeyville.com. Our rink could be chosen to host an NHL Pre-Season game! LIKE us on facebook: Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association Jamestown Lakers

Beginners If you haven t watched our beginners lately, you re missing out on some great on ice action. The kids are still working on hockey and skating fundamentals, but they know how to have fun, too! Check out Coach Padd with our beginners at a recent practice. We re not sure if that s a Conga line or a train!?!? If you re at the rink on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays, stop by and cheer on our newest hockey players!

A.D.M. Program/Mite Hockey You win some, you lose some, but it s all about the love of the game. The Mite Select team had an up and down day on January 25 with a 1-3-1 day and dropping to an 18-6-1 record in the WNYAHL. The team lost to the Southtown Stars (Red) 5-3, lost to the Hamburg Hawks 5-2, lost to Cheektowaga 5-3, beat Olean (1) 4-3, and tied Cazenovia (1) 2-2. Squirt MOHL The Squirt B team has been on a terror lately. In January, they have played 10 games. The team was on a 7 game win streak going into our 4 th game of the Rock N Roll Cup Tournament in Cleveland. The kids have just really been working hard and playing well together. We are all so very proud of them. The team did venture to Cleveland over the Martin Luther King Holiday for the Rock N Roll Cup where they brought home the Second Place Trophy. The team played 4 games in round robin play where they won their first three games. This was a great accomplishment.

The Squirt MOHL team s remaining schedule is as follows: Jan 31, 2015 (Sat) 10:15am Feb 7, 2015 (Sat) 11:10am Feb 14-16 Feb 21, 2015 (Sat) 11:10am Feb 22, 2015 (Sun) 4:30pm Mar 7, 2015 (Sat) 9:00am Mar 12, 2015 (Thu) 7:15pm Mar 20-22 Fredonia White Olean Mid Winter Classic Tournament Checktowaga Bradford Wheatfield #3 at Erie Luke s Legacy Tournament JSBA JSBA JSBA JSBA Callahan Ice Rink 64 Poplin Avenue, Bradford, PA Hockey Outlet 3385 Niagara Falls Blvd, North Tonawanda, NY 14120 JMC Arena 423 W 38th St Erie, PA 16508 West Seneca The Squirt B Team is doing one last team fundraiser to raise money for end of year expenses. Pee-Wee (NTB) The Lakers Pee Wee NTB travel hockey team rang in the New Year with a busy schedule. They took 3 rd place in the Empire State Cup in Rochester after a 5-3 loss to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Wolves from Ontario, Canada, a 6-3 win over the Bridgewater Bears from New Jersey, a 6-1 loss to the Binghamton Jr. Senators from New York, and a 4-0 SHUT OUT win in the consolation game over the Bridgewater Bears from New Jersey. Congratulations to goalie #30 Peyton Maxon, MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the Empire State Cup, and wing #63 Cooper Spielman, VIP (Very Important Player) of the Empire State Cup! Many of the players enjoyed educational learning opportunities at various museums while staying in Rochester. The team had a great time bonding over team dinners, fun in the pool, knee hockey, Nerf wars, and team lunch with some fun with electronic video poker where their manager swindled them for all of their money! Their upcoming schedule proves to be very full between practices, Harbor Center hockey development, games every other weekend, and tournaments the opposite weekends. We are looking forward to Harbor Center on January 27, February 2, February 3, March 12, and March 19. The team is looking forward to tournaments in Bradford, PA January 30 - February 1; in Jamestown, NY February 14-16; and in Cleveland, OH, February 27 - March 1.

Bantam Travel (State Bound) The Bantams are focused and working hard in 2015! They fought hard and took second place in the Cleveland tournament. January 24 th and 25 th, the Bantams posted wins against Cazenovia and Fredonia. The Steen family hosted January s Bantam team bonding activity at Steener s Pub where the team enjoyed a great pasta dinner and hung out before practice. (Thanks Steen family!)
