About us Our legacy From the tough steel town of Pittsburgh PA, The Riskus Boxing Club has come to South Florida Michael Riskus son of Art Riskus has brought his family-fighting heritage to Boca Raton. Art Riskus started the Riskus Boxing Club in 1962 and in its existence, in Pittsburgh; his team has won the team trophy every year they participated in the Golden Gloves. The team would train in the basement of Mike and Arts house, Monday through Friday. The team would gather at the house and learn the skills and condition themselves for the upcoming boxing tournaments. Many of the boxers later became professional including Mikes cousins Chris Riskus and Carl Riskus Art passed away in 1972 at the age of 34. After the tragic loss, Bill Zaleta friend and co-trainer continued to train fighters. Bill Zaleta is a friend and inspiration who in the hearts of all the boxers will always be remembered. It was not until four years later that the club was re- 1
opened by Arts brother Carl, who kept the legacy going by winning the team trophy year after year. Please come and participate with Mike, as he will continue in turning out lean mean fighting machines. If you are interested in learning how to Box and learn self-defense from someone who has been around boxing his whole life call the Riskus Boxing Club. Learn from someone who understands what perfection is. Training does not make perfect, Perfect training makes perfect. 2

Our Support Program: Our Boxing Team Members get the benefit of a continuous Support Group. After one has acquired a certain amount of training, individuals are encouraged to teach newer 3
students. In doing so, the Teacher often learns more, and in the process helps newer members. Friendship and respect is a great add-on. Boxing is a Science: Like physics and biomechanics, the body's movement is critical to achieve the most effective results. It s an Art: One must learn how to express him or herself with an opponent in any given situation. When accomplished it helps to create self-esteem and happiness. It s a Meditation: One must learn Self Control, how to overcome Fear, to be Composed in a crisis, non-judgmental, to have respect for oneself and others, to understand the Power of Humility, to be Aware, to Persevere and not interpret, but to be, and to be in the Now. Community Building: As a fighter evolves, so does the community. As one becomes more becomes effective, other people are affected. We believe that offering community support to other organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, becomes an integral part of our Team Meditation and Self Respect. We are not just Body Building; we are Character Building as well. 4
