Deaf Golf Australia Established 1969 Incorporated 2003 Affiliated with Deaf Sports Australia and World Deaf Golf Federation President: Wendy Home, Secretary : Gavin Balharrie, Treasurer : Jane Read Email Address : dgasecretary@gmail.com Mailing Address : 2 Holly Court, Mitcham, VICTORIA 3132 MEDIA RELEASE 23 rd AUSTRALIAN DEAF GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS MT OSMOND GOLF CLUB As part of the 2016 AUSTRALIAN DEAF GAMES ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA 9-16 JANUARY 2016 Deaf Golf Australia / South Australia Deaf Golf Club were the proud hosts of the 23 rd Australian Deaf Golf Championships held at Mt Osmond Golf Club, as part of the Australian Deaf Games hosted by Deaf Sports Australia, held in Adelaide, South Australia on 9-16 January 2016. A terrific week was had by all including many different sports such as netball, cricket, futsal, volleyball, etc bookended by terrific Opening and Closing Ceremonies. These Championships were proudly supported by Empower Golf : Empower Golf was established specifically to facilitate and promote golf for all Australians regardless of their physical or psychological abilities. Empower is establishing a network of golf clubs which provide access and support to disabled individuals. They fund and provide equipment and deliver a pathway for individuals to try, improve and compete in golf through organising development clinics, coaching and tournaments. Finally, they work to enhance the profile and development of the disabled game with the ultimate goal of Paralympic inclusion. Mt Osmond Golf Club in the foothills overlooking Adelaide proved to be a tough but fair golf course attended by 25 Men and 5 Ladies, from 5 states. Well done everyone on making the effort to attend these Championships. Lovely warm weather (apart from a hot day on the Tuesday) greeted those golfers. Notable results was the keen contest between Luke Ellis (NSW) and Dean Connell (Vic) who was participating in his first Australians Mens Championships. Best round scores were a terrific 71 by Luke Ellis (NSW), 78 in the Seniors Championship by Tony Klimek (WA), and 80 in the Ladies Championship by Linda Marchesi (Vic) who was participating in her first Australian Deaf Golf Championships also. Congratulations to all golfers for excellent sportsmanship and providing a great contest for many to watch. Congratulations to Luke Ellis (Winner of Mens Championship), Linda Marchesi (Winner of Ladies Championships) and Chris Cooper (Winner of Seniors Championships).
