wwelcomew Welcome to the 60 th season of Ashby and Orton on the Hill and District Riding Club, held at Grangewood Farm Livery by kind permission of Mrs Kirkland. This year the club has decided to continue with a full programme of events throughout 2018 from winter showing, show jumping and dressage to a summer pleasure ride, show jumping and showing on the beautiful show field set in the heart of the National Forest. In an effort to encourage new riders to the club, the committee wish to remind everyone that all riding club events are open to both members and nonmembers. Please note however, non-members will not be entitled to accumulate points for end of year trophies, or compete in championship classes. As ever we are in need of more help on show days if you could spare some time during the day to help pick up poles, change courses or gather competitors for classes, please make yourself known to the committee. Your help would be very much appreciated! PLEASE NOTE we are now starting events at 10.00am. Thank you for your continuing support and we wish you all the best of luck for the 2018 season. CLUB RULES It is a member s responsibility to read and comply with the Club rules. Failure to do so may result in their exclusion from the club. The judge s decision is final. Classes may be combined if there are insufficient entries. All horses and ponies must be kept under control at all times. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Age restrictions that apply to certain classes are taken from the 01.01.2017. All ridden classes are confined to horses/ponies 4 years old and over. Any animal considered to be unfit/unsound will be disqualified. No stallions allowed on the show ground unless by prior arrangement with the committee, an orange armband must worn by the rider/handler. Competitors may be disqualified for reckless or dangerous riding or for taking part with any horse or pony that is considered to be a danger to any person, animal or property on the showground. Any competitor seen misusing the whip or deliberately using the action of the bit as a means of punishment likely to cause pain or discomfort to horse/pony will be asked to leave the show ground immediately. No cantering or galloping outside the practice arenas. Practice fences must be jumped with the red wing/flag on the right. No Parelli practice permitted. No lunging in lorry park or warm up areas due to lack of space. If lunging is required please speak to a committee member. All lead rein classes- rein must be attached to the noseband and NOT the bit. Any objections must be handed to the Secretary in writing with a deposit of 20 within 30 minutes of the class ending. If the objection is not sustained the deposit will be forfeited. The committee s decision is final. The committee shall have the power if any competitor or parent/guardian/spectator/ or any other person conducts him or herself in an improper or offensive manner towards any of the judges/officials/ or any other committee member to decline to allow the said person to continue to compete/attend at that or any future show. The committee may at any time request to see a horse or ponies passport in order to determine a horse or pony s height and therefore eligibility for a class. It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that they are entered in the correct class. Any competitor failing to present him/herself within 1 minute of being called into the ring may be eliminated. Classes will not be held up if a competitor is competing in another ring. If this occurs, the competitor will require a signed certificate from the ring steward in order to obtain a refund. All riders whether competing or not, must pay for first aid cover at the entries caravan and obtain a number which must be worn on the riders back when mounted. Disclaimer: All competitors compete at their own risk. Neither the committee nor anyone acting on their behalf accept responsibility for damage, loss or injury to persons, animals or property, however caused. Dress Hard hat of PAS 015 with kite mark, VG1with kite mark, SNELL E2001, SEI ASTM F1163 04a onwards, ASNZS 3838 2003 onwards is compulsory. The harness must be correctly fastened at all times when the rider is mounted. Blue or black hat covers only. Bowler hats are not permitted. In the interest of safety hair should be secured appropriately. Jewellery is not permitted. Neutral coloured gloves should be worn in showing and dressage classes. Whips not exceeding 75cm or less than 45cm are permitted. Blunt spurs without rowels not exceeding 3cm in length may be worn. No spurs to be worn in junior classes. No whips or spurs allowed in gymkhana classes. Tweed jacket with a coloured tie or hunting stock, blue or black jacket with a blue/black/white tie or white/cream hunting stock, Pony Club ties are permitted. In hot weather jackets may be removed and only shirts with long sleeves may be worn at the discretion of the committee. Jumpers may be worn in the gymkhana games only. White, cream or canary jodhpurs with either plain black or brown standard jodhpur boots or long leather or rubber riding boots should be worn. Plain black or brown gaiters or half chaps without tassels are permitted. Half chaps are not permitted in showing or dressage classes. Gymkhana Gymkhana points will be on the horse and rider combination only. The same pony must be used in any one day in all gymkhana events. No spurs, studs, or whips allowed in gymkhana classes. Lead rein gymkhana to be walk & trot only. Games may be subject to change depending on weather conditions etc.

CLUB RULES(cont d) Showing In Hand competitors should be of smart appearance. Jacket & tie preferred. Under 17yrs a hard hat is compulsory. Tack & Turnout to be judged on the cleanliness of the tack & horse/pony and on the rider s appearance no individual show is expected. Style & Appearance to be judged on riders style, ability and appearance of both horse and rider. Best Rider to be judged on the riders style and ability. Riding Club Horse/Pony to be ridden in a snaffle bridle. Class to be judged on manners, way of going in company and suitability for rider & riding club activities. There will be an individual show to include a small jump or task set by the judge. Showing Championships horse and rider combinations placed 1 st and 2 nd in each showing class, will receive a rosette and a qualification entitling them to enter the championships at the last show of the season. Once a horse and rider combination have qualified, they may continue to compete in their showing class and may continue to collect further rosettes, however their qualification will move down the line to the next eligible horse and rider combination. The showing championship will be held at the last show of the season. Show Jumping Fall of horse or rider in a jumping class will result in elimination. Competitors may jump a single fence before leaving the arena at the rider s request. Two refusals will also result in elimination and the competitor must leave the arena. Outside assistance will result in elimination unless the round is non-competitive. Ponies 14.2hh and under, rider any age may compete in the pony show jumping ring. Horses 14.3hh and over rider any age may compete in the horse show jumping. Class 17 is for true beginners and lead reins only. Novice pony jumping, competitors placed 1 st to 6 th in novice classes at each show are eligible to compete in the novice championship at the last show of the season. Sealwood Saddlery Novice Horse Jumping - 150 prize fund (combination of prize money and vouchers) kindly sponsored by Sealwood Saddlery. A trophy, sash and 100 prize will be awarded to the winner, 30 to the reserve champion and 20 for 3 rd place, rosettes to 6 th place all presented by Sealwood Saddlery. Novice horse not to have won an open jumping class in excess of 3ft 6 in the current season. Each horse and rider combination may enter the novice once each show. Horse and rider combinations placed 1 st to 6 th will receive a rosette and a qualification card entitling them to enter the championships at the last show of the season. Once a horse and rider combination have qualified, they may continue to compete in the novice and may continue to collect further rosettes, however their qualification card will move down the line to the next eligible horse and rider combination. The novice championship will be held at the last show of the season after the Sealwood Saddlery Novice. All competitors compete at their own risk, neither Sealwood Saddlery nor anyone acting on their behalf accept responsibility for damage, loss or injury to persons, animals or property, however caused. Crystal Cup A4 Speed Class Horse Jumping In memory of a popular and highly successful competitive Ashby and Orton member; Crystal Baker. A trophy and 100 prize money will be awarded to the winner. Trophies A points system will run for full members who attend 3 or more club events throughout the season. Anyone wishing to compete in any end of year championships must be full members who have attended 3 or more club events. All perpetual trophies remain the property of the Club, and will be held by winners for one year. Engraving is the responsibility of the recipient, please do not discard any old name plates, please return to the club. Replicas awarded will be retained by the winner. All end of year trophies must be returned by the date of the last show, failure to do so will result in current years prizes being forfeit, all damages/breakages to trophies must be paid for by the recipient.
