Easter Muster hits the Lockyer Valley Speedway. On Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th April 2012 a strong group of Classic Speedway members made the trip to the Lockyer Valley Speedway Association Easter Muster at the Gatton Showgrounds where approximately sixteen (16) restored Classic vehicles had nominated for this meeting and ready for two nights of demonstration runs as well as some other sections that consisted of 4 Cylinder Sedans, Formula 500 s, Dirt Karts, 250cc Microsprints, Senior Speedway Karts, Junior Karts, Compact Speedcars and the Modlites to help build up the programme which was run to perfection with no major incidents to speak of over the entire two nights of the event. QLD 19 Frank Cox/Datsun Compact S/car Following the drivers briefing it was time to hit the track for racing and demonstration runs and from the first green flag to the last chequered flag we witnessed some good action from all sections that were programmed over the weekend. During the Sunday night programme Bob Hebert was able to have a drive of Brian Jones s QLD 92 Suzuki RM 250 car because Bob had a problem with his XXXX sponsored car on Saturday night. QLD 92 Bob Hebert in Brian Jones s 2nd Car. QLD 14 Ken Stanaway in the Late Keith Hutton/Penrite Oils Speedcar. One of the VSAQ Members who is a former Queensland Speedcar Champion Ken Stanaway who after a period of twelve months has finally finished the restoration work on one of the Late Keith Hutton s speedcars and brought it to Gatton for a demonstration run during the night and it has been beautifully restored as the photo in this report shows. It was good to see that Tony McGrath in his FX Grey Holden Saloon Car was able to make the trip to Gatton Speedway to join in all the demonstration runs with the CSAQ members and by all accounts he again enjoyed himself over the weekend, and with Roy Johnston who had nominated for the meeting was not able to attend because he wasn t feeling well, but I am sure that all the CSAQ Members would like to wish Roy a speedy recovery and hopefully we will see him at the next meeting at Gatton in May. In closing this report the Newsletter Editor would like to thank all the CSAQ Members who supported the East Muster at Gatton Speedway as well as to thank Ian & Sheree Jones and all the Staff and Volunteers for all their efforts in putting this meeting on over the Easter weekend and I am sure that it will happen again in 2013 all going well. CSAQ Events Calendar Saturday 16th June 2012 - Kalbar Show- Static Display & Grand Parade 2012 RACQ Motorfest - Sunday 15th July 2012 - Eagle Farm Racecourse - Static Display Saturday 4th August 2012 - Pine Rivers Show - Static Display & Grand Parade Monday 6th August 2012 - Annual General Meeting at CSAQ Clubhouse Valley s Football Club. Please remember to nominate with the Club Secretary so that he can organise your passes for entry into the Shows. The photo below is an aerial view of the Famous Knoxville Raceway in the United States that was received by the Newsletter Editor in an email, so I thought that all of the CSAQ Members would like to have a look at the home of Sprintcar Racing in the United States. What a great venue. Look forward to bringing you some more photos like this in future issues. CSAQ MERCHANDISE Don t forget that we also have all the other merchandise that s available such as: CSAQ Blue/Black Short Sleeve Shirts - $30.00 CSAQ Black Polo Shirts - $25.00 CSAQ Blue Chambray Short Sleeve Shirts $30.00 CSAQ Sew-on Patches $7.00 CSAQ Stubbie Coolers - $6.00 CSAQ Black Surf Hats - $18.00 CSAQ Key Rings - $ 5.00 CSAQ Club Caps - $20.00 There is also some larger Stickers available for sale - $10.00 Plus a good range of reproduced stickers available at reasonable prices. Please contact the Club Secretary for the Merchandise as listed above. Our trip to the Marburg Show had to be cancelled due to all the rain that had fallen over night and after the Newsletter Editor had Don t forget that nominations for the 2012 RACQ Motorfest are now available, and are available from the Club Secretary, the event has been planned for Sunday 15th July 2012 at the Eagle Farm Racecourse at Hamilton, and is a Static Display. COL S ACTION PHOTO S All the photos that Col takes during the year at all the CSAQ events are available for viewing at each of the Monthly Club Meetings, and are all FOR SALE at reasonable prices. 6x4 = $3.50 each 5x7 = $5.00 each 6x8 = $8.00 each A4 Laminated = $10.00each A3 Laminated = $15.00 each Postage Charge $5.00 All photos have to be paid for when ordering, and if possible I can also post them to you as soon as they are ready. made a call to the Club Secretary to find out that it would be a waste of time making the trip to Marburg as there wouldn t be very many show goers to even see our display let alone be able to walk around the show either, so we will have to wait for our next event which will be the 7th Annual Car Show on the 13th May 2012 at the Greenbank Sports & Recreation Grounds Middle Road Greenbank. Hopefully the weather will be fine and sunny for the event. Don t forget to be early. Page 6

On Sunday 22nd April 2012 members of the Classic Speedway Association (QLD) Inc., attend the Classic/Vintage Display at the Rocklea Showgrounds where a strong group of Classic Speedway vehicles which consisted of Speedcars, Saloon Cars, Super Modified, Sprintcars, Litre Sprintcar, Mini Speedcar and some Speedway Solo Motorcycles and Sidecars where several of the visitors to the event came around and spoke to the members about their vehicles, as well as the CSAQ s tables of memorabilia for the visitors. During the day the Newsletter Editor was able to talk to some of the former stars of speedway racing like Arthur Sollitt, Keith Blicharski, Don Allsop, Billy Moore, Bob Morgan, Bill Kelly, Barrie Watt, Eric Mitchell, Des, Ross & Fred Kiehne which made the day just that more important, but very disappointed not to see a bigger turn-out of Vintage Speedcars from the VSAQ, as I thought that the event was there for them as well as the CSAQ and the HSAA Clubs. This photo to the left shows two Former Speedcar Stars namely Keith Blicharski and Arthur Sollitt who raced around the Brisbane Exhibition Speedway for many years in front of big crowds each and every Saturday night which was speedway night in Brisbane. While walking around the event on Sunday I managed to catch up with Pat & Sally Geraghty and grabbed this photo of them in front of their 1953 Holden road car that they had on display during the event, and I also noticed that they both spent plenty of time looking over the CSAQ s memorabilia, and it was certainly good to see speedway drivers from the early days of the sport enjoying events like this. As the Newsletter Editor was leaving the Rocklea Showgrounds I managed to catch this photo of three of the cheeky boys who not only were the stars of the sport for many years like Eric Mitchell and Jimmy Holden who both raced in Saloon Cars and Speedcars along with Barrie Watt looking out of the bus who raced against the other two during their racing careers. CHEEKY BUGGERS, and still very good friends. I hope that everyone enjoyed the day and don t forget that the CSAQ s Car Show is on Sunday 13th May 2012 at Greenbank and we all look forward to seeing you there bright and early as Cheryl Postlewaithe promised to cook breakfast for everyone on the day, or she will join the Club Secretary in a drinking binge of Bundy and Coke for the day. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Photos for this story from Col s Action Photo s. Page 8

PHOTOS BY COL S ACTION PHOTO S This photo shows the Ray Billeau V8 Chevy Sprintcar owned by Barry Skimmings who hasn t been feeling very well of late, but it was good to see him at Rocklea for this event. Well as the Newsletter Editor was putting this page together this photo of the STAR OF THE DAY popped onto the page. The very talented Mrs Cheryl Postlewaithe acting as the Official Display sign for the event. I think that the Hot Rods and Sedans were confused as she was also displaying the Reserved Sign. I hope that this sign board will be used at our event in a couple of weeks time. QLD 6 Trevor Maskell s Mini Speedcar on show at the event at Rocklea on Sunday 22/04/12 and certainly catches the eye s of kids when it is on display Here is a piece of history on display as Bill Kelly s Holden powered midget was seen on display at Rocklea with some of the Old Body Panels that was used on the car during the early days of it s racing career, and picked up on the day from Des Kiehne who had the Tail, Bonnett and side panels for sale on the day. Jeff Timms s Sidecar Martin Emery s Sprintcar Frank Cox s Compact Speedcar. Page 9

CSAQ CAR SHOW REPORT: While many of the visitors to the 7th Annual CSAQ Car/Bike Show & Swap Meet were catching that last few minutes of sleep time, some of the members of the CSAQ were out in the early morning coolness setting up the Greenbank Sports & Recreation Grounds for a busy day of displays and fun activities so that everyone we hoped enjoyed themselves out in the warm sunlight. The Newsletter Editor arrived on board the Watt s Bus & Coachworks Old Timers Bus with Andy Thompson behind the wheel, then it was time to unload two vintage speedcars for the speedway section of the Car Show, and I can assure you all that I was very impressed with the turnout considering it was Mothers Day. This photo shows Bruce Postlewaithe, Don Allsop and CSAQ Secretary Tony Woods enjoying the Car/Bike Show at Greenbank and I am sure that they all were very pleased with the day as both Bruce and Tony were on duty around 4.00 am on the day. Check out the photo page. More Stars to come. This photo shows Don Allsop catching up the Stock Car that he raced for Paul Hill all those years ago which is now owned by Tony & Matthew Woods who have beautifully restored the car which was on display at the 2012 CSAQ Car / Bike Show at Greenbank. Following the day of judging all the Classic/Vintage equipment that was on display it was time for the CSAQ President Frank Cox and Vice President Sue Green who had invited former Saloon Car and Grand National Lady Driver Denyse Butcher from the Trackside Shop at Brisbane International Speedway to make the presentation of trophies to all the winners who had entered their vehicles in the judging, and what a great job Denyse had done as the photos will show on the front of this edition of the CSAQ Newsletter. The CSAQ Members would like to thank and congratulate all the recipients on there winnings. In closing this report the CSAQ President, Committee and Members would like to thank all the entrants for the 7th Annual Car/Bike Show and we all hope that you will be back in 2013 where the date has already been released, and we would also like to thank all the Sponsors for coming on board to make this event possible.
