HISTORY OF THE BUICK OPEN In 1958 Buick became the PGA TOUR s first corporate sponsor. Starting with a then unrivaled $52,000 in 1958, the prize at Warwick Hills has soared, reaching $500,000 in 1986, $1,000,000 in 1989 and now a tournament record $5 million in 2008. The winner will take home $900,000. However, the biggest beneficiaries of the tournament have been the area charities. All tournament proceeds, after expenses are paid, go directly to charity. Over the years Buick has raised nearly $9 million for worthy causes in Southeastern Michigan.
