Rick Ray Quotes MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY MEN S BASKETBALL Arkansas State at Mississippi State Wednesday, December 17, 2014 Humphrey Coliseum Starkville, Miss. Opening Statement... The thing I was most disappointed in was the lack of intensity on the defensive end. You would think getting back here to the Hump we would do a much better job on the defensive end. I know we have our offensive woes, but we have to continue to guard with intensity, and I thought we gave way too many open looks on goal. I thought they had way too many uncontested jump shots. On offensive production from bench players... I thought the guys off the bench came in and did a good job of competing. But when it was all said and done we did an unfair thing to those guys out there on the court. Demetrius Houston lost his guy a couple times, but Demetrius Houston shouldn t have been out there, but he went out there and competed hard and deserved that playing time. We have to figure out a way to get the right lineup out there to give us a right balance between guys who can score and get the right mixture of guys who can compete for us. I ve got to find that right mixture and I m struggling with that right now. On Roquez Johnson... When Roquez Johnson gets the ball at the rim he is hard to guard, because he finds a way to get the ball to the rim. I thought he had a great effort. He s been coming out and bringing effort every time like a senior should. On South Carolina Upstate... USC Upstate has already won at Georgia Tech, and Georgia Tech right now only has two losses so they are a quality ball club. We have to fix some things on the interior first. USC Upstate is our opponent, but right now our opponent is ourselves. On using the loss to try and find motivation and momentum... This team right here came out, and Coach [John] Brady did a good job of scouting who to guard and who not to guard and how to pack it in. A lot of teams come out and play the way they would play regardless of their opponent, and I thought he did a good job of finding what are weaknesses are and exposing those weaknesses.

John Brady Quotes MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY MEN S BASKETBALL Arkansas State at Mississippi State Wednesday, December 17, 2014 Humphrey Coliseum Starkville, Miss. On MSU s rebounding advantage... Tonight we played well for forty minutes, we out-rebounded a team that was out-rebounding their opponents by eight. Mississippi State, let s be honest they re not a real good shooting team, so we played gap position defense on them and just wanted to get our hand up on shooters. We didn t want to give them too many second opportunities. We were able to do that for the most part. We got to the foul line 24 times and only made thirteen, so we had some opportunities there too, but I was proud of us being able to get to the foul line. Anytime you win on the road, particularly against a Southeastern Conference team, you ve got to shoot the ball well and we made timely baskets, that s something we haven t been able to do. Sean Gardner and Cameron Golden made some timely shots for us and I was proud of Bocoum in the post. Andy Livingston didn t play his best, but they were trying to guard him so his presence there helped us out. Our team needed to win and this is a confidence booster for us. On retruning to MSU... I went with Richard Williams to eat and Joe Dier saw me and said, Welcome home. That really touched me a little bit honestly. I went to graduate school here, and was a graduate assistant for Kermit Davis. That s where I met my good friend Joe Dean Jr., and his father winded up hiring me to LSU. I got my good friend Richard Williams to come here and work with Bob Boyd. Larry Eustachy and I lived together for a year. So there s a lot of me left here in this place. It s a special place. Their team is fine, they re athletic, they just don t shoot it well. I think they re going to be fine if they continue to rebound and guard well. If you can t shoot it, you have to defend it and rebound it. I appreciate them playing us. Belhaven was good to me too. I m a Mississippi guy and proud of it.

MSU Player Quotes MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY MEN S BASKETBALL Arkansas State at Mississippi State Wednesday, December 17, 2014 Humphrey Coliseum Starkville, Miss. 1 - Fred Thomas; Jr., Guard On the locker room postgame... I d say it was pretty emotional. Everybody was down because we knew we were going to win this game, but it s the little things we didn t do and that s why we did not come out with the victory. On how this game ranks in his career... I think this is the number one most emotional time we have had. Like he [Roquez Johnson] said, we all wanted it but we just did not do those things to accomplish and get the victory. We have to overcome this. We cannot let time after time, game after game, affect the next game. We have to get over this game and get ready for the next game. On not doing the little things and when the game started to slip away... I felt that at the beginning of the game actually. Arkansas State got off to a great start and our starters did not. So, he took all of us out and put the second line guys in and they did a great job of bringing us back in the game. He put those first guys back in the game again and we let the game slip up, and they took the lead. The little things we did not do were rebound the ball. They just wanted it more than us. 25 - Roquez Johnson; Sr., Forward On the locker room postgame... I think this might be the most emotional day we have had this year. All the guys were sad. They wanted it. Everyone wanted it, but we just have to do the right things. On if this is the most emotional game he has had in his career... I could say that. I could see that my team wanted it as bad as I do. We just have to do the right things to get us there. Just work hard and do what we have to do. On his performance and what was working for him tonight... Just energy. I saw at the beginning of the game that for the guys not everything was following through like it should. Arkansas State took an early lead so I felt like when I came in I had to provide a lot of energy of my teammates and just help them get on the right track.

Arkansas State Player Quotes MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY MEN S BASKETBALL Arkansas State at Mississippi State Wednesday, December 17, 2014 Humphrey Coliseum Starkville, Miss. No. 12 - Sean Gardner; Jr., Guard On the team s confidence Not only does the offensive end bring our confidence up, but playing well defensively brings our confidence up. That helps a lot. On Mississippi State When you watch film, you only see highlights. That is a little bit different than what you see on the court. We just executed a little bit better than they did. On his big night My teammates helped me get open. They draw a lot of attention to themselves. They can score the ball and that makes my man a little lazier. Then they can skip it to me and I can get a wide open shot.
