History Created by the Wisconsin Glaciation over 20,000 years ago, Snow Lake was part of the Western Reserve granted to Oliver Snow, a Revolutionary War veteran. It was developed in the early 1900 s as a hunting and fishing club by a group of prominent Cleveland families seeking a wilderness refuge. Among the oldest hunting and fishing clubs in continuous operation in Ohio, Snow Lake has been privately-owned and carefully maintained by a founding family for over six decades. Over the Lake s rich history, vegetable gardens and orchards were planted, and its members raised fox, pheasant, mink, and horses.
Facilities In the center of the property, at the end of the wellmaintained mile-long private drive, is a 6-bedroom, 2-bath rustic lodge. The lodge includes a great room, dining room seating 12, kitchen, and a screened dining porch running the length of the structure. The focal point of the great room is a grand brick fireplace. A roaring fire invites family and friends to relax after an early morning of fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, or a walk in the crisp autumn air. Panoramic views of the marsh, the fields, and the apple orchard surround the home. Another quarter-mile along the drive is the original stone cabin, restored to provide flexible sleeping accommodations, or a tranquil retreat to read a good book. The cabin is a short walk to the 32-acre springfed glacial lake, home to abundant populations of waterfowl and game fish. An elevated walkway leads to the boat dock, where kayaks, canoes and rowboats are available for swimming, fishing, birding, and hunting. A raft beckons in the center of the lake. Other buildings on the property include an historic icehouse, a solar lumber kiln, a large pole barn housing two Ford tractors, and three smaller storage sheds. In addition, there are multiple outdoor seating areas, room for ample event parking, a large outdoor grille, an orchard and open field. Weddings, corporate meetings and reunions are easily accommodated in a picture-perfect setting. Adjacent fields can accommodate target shooting, archery, baseball games, gardening, clambakes, balloon ascensions and more. Whether you seek a pristine, personal wildlife preserve for hunting or fishing, an open area to stargaze at night, a discovery walk in a virgin forest, or a volleyball game with friends, Snow Lake offers these experiences in abundance.
