From the Chair: Summer is officially here! That is definitely hard to believe since we have been experiencing summerlike temperatures for some time now. With summer comes camping, visits from children and grandchildren, trips to the lake, and picnics. Wherever your summer adventures take you, please remember safety first, whether you are walking, biking, driving a vehicle or acting as a passenger. You are responsible for your own actions, and often it pays to be defensive when moving from place to place. You don t know what others around you are thinking or doing. Often I have seen people at a crosswalk, they march right out in front of moving traffic, ASSUMING that vehicles will stop. Then you hear a news report that a person was hit while attempting to cross the street. Always wait until traffic is stopped, and then proceed after making eye contact with the driver. We want everyone to have a safe summer. Another advantage to summer is the soon to be available fresh Manitoba fruits and vegetables that just taste so much better than those that are imported from elsewhere. We are already experiencing the bounty of green onions, lettuce, radish, and spinach and the taste of rhubarb and strawberries. Activities at the CSCSC slow down somewhat this month, but the meal program continues at both locations. Thanks to the efforts of the meal group at St Eustache, the weekly numbers have increased greatly, and it has become a real time of visiting among the guests. Thanks to those who have invited their family, friends and neighbors to come and enjoy Melissa s wonderful cooking. Please keep in mind that we are holding a BBQ and wine survivor raffle on Aug. 9 at Elie Community Club. Please see Melissa or any member of the CSCSC board of directors for details. Until next month. Enjoy the season and stay safe Regards, Linda 2
RC s Corner Heading into July I am looking forward to some time off! My house will be empty and I m excited about the fact that I will be able to keep it clean for more than a few hours! My trip home to Ontario was cancelled as I find myself on a bit of a tighter budget at the moment. But, a vacation is a vacation! I m thinking beach time and perhaps finishing a few of the projects I ve started around the house. My dates out of the office will be July 9-13. July will be a quiet month for the CSCSC. Be sure to enjoy some of our regularly scheduled programming and keep cool. Don t forget we also have our Wine Survivor on until August 9. Buy a bottle of wine and a $10 ticket for your chance to win. Hope to see you all out enjoying the Canada Day festivities! What s Cooking at St. Eustache Manor? July 4: BBQ.
