Join the team and be a part of something big. Contact Larry Regula, 472-7183, he has been very kind in offering to head up the tournament this year. Please help him when he calls. There are small jobs and large ones, but all are important. It takes a lot of people to make this an exciting tournament. There are a lot of teams that will come to fish and we want to make a big impression with our abilities to do a tournament the right way. DON T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR THIS GREAT EVENT. If you are interested in fishing the CCA Challenge, now is the time to let us know so you can get your name in. We need boats and people. Contact Larry Regula for info. 472-7183 ANGLERS CLUB CHALLENGE INFORMATION The Catchin' 4 Kids organization is stepping up to the plate. The organization holds a striper tournament each December to raise money and collect toys for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program. Now it is going to help run the Anglers' Club Challenge, which was in jeopardy of not being held this summer. The challenge had been run for the past 13 years by the Tidewater Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association. "CCA has done a great job every year with the challenge, and it's such a fun tournament that all the clubs look forward to each year," said Rick Williams, one of the Catchin' 4 Kids organizers. "We're not trying to take it away from CCA. We're just helping run the event until they can take it back over." This year's challenge is set for Aug. 25 and 26. It features teams from nine angling clubs in Southeastern Virginia. Each club can enter as many as five teams. "It's an awesome tournament, and there is a lot of bragging rights involved," Reese Bowles said of Catchin' 4 Kids. "It's not something anybody wants to see die. So we're helping out." Cobia, we have seen a couple of cobia weighed in recently at Long Bay Pointe and our Cobia tournament was this month. SO. It s time to think about ways to cook em! RECIPE CORNER: Marinated & Grilled Cobia 3 lbs cobia 1/3 cup olive oil 1/3 cup lemon juice 1½ teaspoons dry mustard 1 clove garlic, minced 1 teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon pepper Preparation: Cut fillets into serving size pieces, and place in a bowl. Combine olive oil and lemon juice. Add all remaining spices to oil and lemon juice, and mix. Pour mixture over fish steaks. Marinate for 5 minutes Remove from marinade and barbecue for about 8 minutes over coals (Keep checking, do not overcook!) Turn as necessary, basting several times with marinade. Serve hot off the grill Grilled Mahi Mahi with Sweet Onions and Garlic This recipe also good for tuna, sea bass, mackerel, or halibut. 1 1/2 pounds mahi mahi, sliced 3/4-inch thick (4 servings) 1 large Vidalia, Maui or other sweet onion 5 cloves garlic, thinly sliced 3 tablespoons olive oil 2 tablespoons butter 1/2 teaspoon sugar 3 tablespoons orange juice, (fresh is best) 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper Peel and slice the onion and garlic cloves as thinly as possible. Heat the oil and butter in heavy skillet. When the butter bubbles, add the onions and garlic. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook the onions very slowly for 20 to 25 minutes until they're golden brown. Watch mixture to avoid burning. When the onions are golden, sprinkle with sugar, orange juice, salt and pepper. Allow the juice to evaporate for about 1 minute. While onions are cooking, heat a grill to medium-high. Brush both sides of the mahi mahi fillets with olive oil. Cook the fish for 2 minutes directly on grill; rotate the fish one-quarter turn without flipping it. (This gives the fish an attractive diamond pattern from the grill.) Cook for 5 min-
KID S PAGE The Perfect Knot! There are many different kinds of knots available for fishing; however, the Improved Clinch knot is probably the easiest and best for young anglers to learn. Let s get started! 1) Run the end of the line through the eye of the hook, then twist that end of the line approximately four to five times around the main line. 2) Put the end of the line through the new small loop formed just above the eye of the hook; push the end of the line through the bigger, new loop you have just formed. 3) Pull line tight, down to the eye of the hook. Snip off the excess line from the knot... COLOR ME!

ADVERTISEMENTS MANY THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS AND SUPPORTERS FOR THEIR GENEROUS DONATIONS TO VBAC. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SHOP THEM WHENEVER POSSIBLE ATTENTION MEMBERS: We are always looking for companies and people who will help out the club, especially by way of donations. If you know of or utilize a company or organization that may be willing to support the club with a donation of a gift certificate or item, please let me know. If you know or use a company that carries a product or item that would be of use or interest to club members, let me know. Or, if you have a favorite shop, restaurant or someone just starting out that might benefit from exposure to the club members, I'd like to contact them. I have been very fortunate to have a great group of people and companies that always help out when asked, but I'd rather not ask the same people all of the time. Thanks.
