February Update Welcome to February 4-H ers! 4-H clubs and District Councils will be hosting their 4-H Public Speaking Competitions throughout February and March. We hope your busy preparing your speech (if you need some tips or advice, check out the Resources page on the 4-H website). District and Regional Dates are included in this update. District Council spring meetings will also be happening throughout February and March and there is lots of important business to discuss. If you re interested in learning more about 4-H and helping to set our organization s strategic direction, consider running for a position on the Board of Directors. Nominations are open now and positions will be elected at AGM. We are currently hosting a fundraiser to support the Saskatchewan 4-H Foundation by building a virtual farm showcasing all of our supporters - check out the Farm for the 4-H Foundation on the 4-H Saskatchewan website! There are some awesome partner events being held in February, including the Prairieland Youth Leadership Conference, WCVM Equine Education Day, and NEW this year, Hockey Night with the Scouts! Check out the Events & Opportunities page. While it s still a bit frosty for now, spring is just around the corner. Spring and Summer event dates are starting to get set. There are lots of Competitive Judging and Livestock Show opportunities to look forward to! District Council Spring Meetings Each District has a 4-H Council made up of member and adult representatives from the clubs within that district. Each 4-H club is responsible for sending two member and two adult club representatives to the District 4-H Council Meetings, held in the fall and spring. The purpose of the District 4-H Council is to: Create opportunities for members and leaders to interact and participate in events with 4-H ers not just in their club. Ensure that your club has input into 4-H policies. Allow 4-H ers to compete in district events such as public speaking this may involve fundraising! Have Fun! At your Spring District Council meeting, you should help your AGM Delegates prepare their District Report by providing information about your club and its activities, as well as any regional or provincial events you have hosted. You should also discuss the resolutions submitted for discussion as a group and instruct your delegates how to vote. To find out the date of your District Meeting, check the District Meeting page on the 4-H website at under Events & Opportunities. See: www.4-h.sk.ca/eventsopportunities/districtmeetings Four Resolutions submitted for discussion at AGM A resolution is a suggestion to change a 4-H policy that effects how the 4-H program in Saskatchewan operates. You should discuss these resolutions with your club and district so that you can advise your delegates how you would like them to vote at AGM. Remember, resolutions can be amended at AGM so it is important that your delegates know the intention of your district, not just if you are in favour or against, so that they can confidently speak and vote on your behalf. The resolutions for discussion are posted on the 4-H website (under Updates), and available from the 4-H Office. Follow this link: http://www.4-h.sk.ca/newsview?hid=277

Regional 4-H Judging At Regional Judging Competitions, members judge species or items, and are judged on their reasoning abilities and oral reason presentations. Please note that 4-H members can participate at any and all Regional Judging competitions. However, if a member wins at one regional competition, s/he is not eligible to win at another. Many of the judging competitions listed below also have a judging clinic or workshop for younger members or those new to judging. 2015 Regional 4-H Judging Competitions Lloydminster Regional 4-H Judging Lloydminster April 18-19 NE Regional 4-H Judging Clinic Prince Albert Exhibition Grounds April 18 Whitewood Regional 4-H Judging [SE] Whitewood April 25 (tentative) Frontier Days 4-H Judging Competition [SW] Swift Current TBA Weyburn Regional 4-H Judging [SE] Weyburn June 29 Prairieland Park Regional Judging [NW] Saskatoon July 4 Those who qualify at the Regional competitions will be eligible to compete at the 2015 4-H Provincial 4-H Judging Competition which will take place August 14-15 in Saskatoon, SK.
