If you are interested in hosting a State Junior Olympic Shotgun event please complete the enclosed paperwork. All applications and match programs must be received by February 21 st, 2014. Please use the sample program provided in this packet to ensure accuracy. State hosts will be chosen based on geography, prior USAS involvement, club facilities and each club s mission for grassroots development of the sport. One club or organization, who must be a current USAS member, within each state will be awarded the state JO host title. In some instances, due to state size, more than one location within a state will be awarded the title of state JO host. In this instance a state coordinator will be appointed by USAS, as all scores will be submitted by the state coordinator. All state Junior Olympic matches are to be held between March 8 th, 2014 and July 6 th, 2014. All clubs will be notified by email as to whether or not their application was selected. The National Junior Olympic Shotgun Championships will take place in Colorado Springs, Colorado July 6 th - 13 th, 2014. Please note that these dates are subject to change and that all invitations will be sent electronically. Please read through the entire packet carefully. Changes have been made to the 2014 program. If there are any questions about the sanctioning process or the enclosed information, please feel free to contact me at 719-866-4882 or by e-mail at tyler.anderson@usashooting.org Sincerely, Tyler Anderson Tyler Anderson Competitions Coordinator 1

CONDUCTING A STATE JUNIOR OLYMPIC MATCH Send in your application and match program to USA Shooting by February 21 st, 2014. Applications will be evaluated and approved in the order in which they arrive. All 2013 State Junior Olympic Shotgun matches must be held between March 8 th, 2014 and July 6 th, 2014. If selected as a host, please make sure you have received confirmation from USAS along with any pins or medals for the competition prior to holding your match. USA Shooting will provide gold, silver, and bronze medals for the first, second and third place RESIDENT individuals in each event for each state conducting Junior Olympic matches. Pins are given one per participant. All clubs must be current USAS members as well as all competitors must be current USAS members. Conduct the competition strictly by the 2014 edition of USA Shooting rules (always have a rulebook on hand). The only exception is Double Trap which may be shot under the old rules if you re unable to acquire the new chip. 2014 NJOSC Double Trap rules will be run under the new rules. You may contact Tyler Anderson about the acquisition of a chip if you re interested. Rules can be found on our website, www.usashooting.org, under the Resources tab. State JO matches may be held separately for skeet, trap and/or double trap. All competitors must participate in a state qualifying match in order to be considered for eligibility to the National Junior Olympic Championships (NJOSC). Scores from other matches, such as PTO s, will not be accepted. A shooter may compete in an alternative state than their state of residence, but they will not be eligible for state awards. Explain all match procedures to all competitors before the match starts. Please make sure each competitor for each discipline completes the entry form and signs off on their score. Award ceremonies should be held as soon as possible so all competitors will be able to attend. Wobble/Bunker Trap: USAS will continue to allow the use of wobble traps Please remember why you were selected as a state JO host. A State Junior Olympic match allows juniors the opportunity to qualify for an invitation to the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships. All competitors deserve an equal opportunity to qualify. This should be an enjoyable experience, promoting sportsmanship and providing a learning experience for all shooters. Be sure to encourage your competitors to ask questions and push themselves to shoot their best. 3

Double Trap Shooting Clinic: A half day shooting clinic for anyone interested in learning to shoot Double Trap will be conducted on July 11 th. The instructional clinic will be held the day after the completion of the Trap portion of the NJOSC. Anyone who attends the clinic will be automatically invited to participate in the Double Trap portion of the NJOSC. The clinic will cost $50, all targets and instruction included, and will be first come, first serve basis until the clinic reaches its maximum capacity of 42 participants. *Subject to change based on participation numbers. If you have any questions or concerns please call Tyler Anderson in the Competitions office at 719-866-4882 or send him an email at tyler.anderson@usashooting.org. FEE REPORTING AND SUBMITTING SCORES To be e-mailed: 3. Electronic results: An electronic results sheet will be made available on the Competitions- National Junior Olympics Program page of the USA Shooting website for match directors to report final match scores. Only the official 2014 SG NJOSC Sore Reporting Form will be accepted, all others will be rejected. Please email the spreadsheet to Tyler Anderson at tyler.anderson@usashooting.org. Invitations to the NJOSC will not be made unless electronic results are received. All State Junior Olympic participants MUST HAVE BEEN BORN IN 1994 OR LATER. All participants must be USA Shooting members. No exceptions. Do not submit scores for anyone who is not eligible, as they will not be accepted. To become a member visit our website at http://usashooting.org/membership.php or call Amber Aragon at 719-866-4743. In order to be eligible for awards, all competitors in a state JO match must have residency within that state. Residency is defined as to where the competitor holds a current and valid driver s license. If the competitor does not have a drivers license, residency is then defined as to where the competitor s parents/guardians reside. A shooter may compete as a non-resident in a state JO to qualify for the National Junior Olympic Championships; however, he or she will not be eligible for state awards. Only U.S. Citizens will be eligible for medals at both the state JOSC and the NJOSC. Please do not fax forms; do keep them on file for six months. The competitor completes the top of the paper entry form, and the sponsor must fill in the score and number of shots at the bottom of the form (please write legibly). Make copies of the entry form for all of your competitors for you to retain. All electronic results are to be emailed to Tyler Anderson at tyler.anderson@usashooting.org. If you do not know how to fill in the information on the excel spreadsheet, please call us immediately. We will walk you through it. Please do not wait until the date of your match to ask for assistance. 4

We expect all USAS official JO hosts to be responsible in efficiently and effectively reporting all necessary information in a timely manner. PLEASE CALL WITH ANY PROBLEMS YOU MAY HAVE. We will not call state hosts to remind them of their responsibilities or to track down information not received. Please follow up either by email or phone after your documents have been submitted to receive confirmation. Course of Fire: The course of fire is 125 consecutive targets (trap and skeet) and 150 consecutive targets for double trap. If additional finals are shot, the scores will not be used to determine USAS awards or invitations to the NJOSC. If additional targets are shot, only the first 125 targets are to be submitted for consideration to the NJOSC. The USA Shooting National Junior Olympic Shotgun Championships will be held in Colorado Springs, CO. Housing will not be available at the Olympic Training Center. Schedule: (please note the below schedule is subject to change) 2014 National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships (Schedule Tentative) July 6 July 7 July 8 July 9 July 10 July 11 July 12 July 13 Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Open Open Trap Trap Trap Skeet Skeet Training Training OTR Final DT Final Final Skeet OTR DT OTR 5

INVITATION PROCESS FOR 2014 The invitation process for the 2014 year will remain consistent with last year. In order to invite as many juniors as possible, USAS has moved to an open invite structured process. For Skeet and Trap, USAS will issue an automatic invite for the top three finishers in their State JO. ONLY the top three out of the entire state for each discipline will be eligible for the automatic invite, NOT the top three males and top three females. An automatic invitation will be given to anyone who competes in a Double Trap State JO match. Participants of the Double Trap shooting clinic will receive an invitation to compete in the NJOSC as well. Again, please realize that by top three, USAS means the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place individuals over all, not the top three for males and females. All members of the Junior Olympic Shotgun Team and National Junior Shotgun Team will receive an automatic invite. USAS will also have 150 open slots that are available to ANYONE who has competed in a USAS sanctioned State JO. These slots will be filled on a first come first serve basis, with registration done via Rail Station (USAS online registration program). Registration opening and closing dates will be announced under the National Junior Olympic Program tab in plenty of time for shooters to be prepared for signing up. With this process enacted, it is IMPERATIVE that an email address is submitted for each competitor with the electronic spreadsheet of results from your State JO. This will allow for fast, efficient and effective communication to take place with all those interested in attending. Beyond the automatic invites and the 150 open slots, a waiting list will be formed for those who did not qualify in any of the above processes. The waiting list will also be a first come first serve signup process as well. All invitations will be sent via email to the participant s. Any participant who does not provide their email address on the electronic score reporting form may not receive their invite. Please be sure that all athletes provide an accurate and up-to-date email address. 6
