Our Silver Hawk Community: We would like to invite you to participate in our 2017-2018 Homecoming Parade! In lieu of a Homecoming Pep Rally, Lake Howell High School will be having a parade on Friday, November 3, 2017. The parade begins at 1:35pm at Tuskawilla Middle School and will end at Lake Howell High School at 2:15pm. Parade Goal The goal of the homecoming parade is to promote school spirit and pride. This goal is reinforced by school and community clubs and organizations of Lake Howell High School visually showing how much they support the youth of our community. Parade Expectations Floats or marching units, etc. should show support for the Lake Howell Silver Hawks and not have their own self interest (i.e. political units). Floats should be themed to represent this year s homecoming theme: Empire State of Mind. Entries will be responsible for any waste, garbage or debris. Safety should be of utmost concern for people involved with the entry and should not pose any threat to the volunteers and spectators. Throwing of candy is strictly prohibited. Candy must be passed out by walking participants. Profanity, alcohol, tobacco, and references to them are prohibited. This packet includes the Parade Guidelines, Parade Entry Form, and the Parade Agreement. Please review each item carefully. Friday, November 3, 2017 Parade Lineup: 1:00pm Parade Start: 1:35pm Parade End: 2:15pm For all entries: 1. Complete Parade Entry form and Parade Agreement and submit to Ms. Dopson in 7-114 by October 25, 2017 by the end of the school day. 2. Mandatory Pre Parade meeting on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 for sponsor and student representative at 2:30pm in 7-114. Parade line up information will be distributed at this meeting. 3. Entries must complete the entire parade route from Tuskawilla Middle School to Lake Howell High School. 4. Line-up begins at 1:00 PM. Please be aware of the route and your line up position. 5. All slogans and wording used on entries must be school appropriate. All entries are restricted from displaying or distributing any information with regards to alcohol, tobacco or other drugs as well as any display of alcoholic beverage company logos. Administration and parade coordinators have the right to refuse any parade entries that are in direct conflict with mission, values and goals of Lake Howell High School. 6. All entries are required to clearly identify their organization by signs or banners. 7. Any entry may be removed from the parade and competition if, in the opinion of parade officials, the entry is operated in a hazardous manner or because of the misbehavior of individuals or animals associated with the entry. 8. All operators of motor vehicles of any kind must be licensed drivers. 9. Candy is allowed, but cannot be thrown from a float or vehicle. Candy must be distributed or handed out by walkers. 10. Parade participants may only be on or near the float while on the parade route. a. All participants on or walking with the float must remain on or walking with it for the duration of the parade. Participants may not get on and off the float during the event. b. Walking Units are encouraged to: i. Carry a banner or sign to identify their unit ii. Dress in similar and appropriate clothing
For All Floats: 1. All work on class floats is encouraged to be completed by students enrolled at Lake Howell High School, with assistance from adults where necessary. 2. Must be able to maintain a speed of 5-10 miles per hour and must be capable of completing a U- turn (180 degrees) within 50 feet. 3. All parade units should maintain an equal distance during the parade route. Proper spacing of all units is important for the consistency of the parade. Parade officials will monitor the distance and pace of the parade units. 4. Signs should be placed on both sides of each unit to denote the name of the group. 5. All floats should be decorated in good taste in conjunction with the parade theme: Empire State of Mind. Those in violation of the student code of conduct, mission or values of LHHS will not be allowed to participate. 6. It is the responsibility of the sponsoring organization to ensure that all vehicle drivers possess the appropriate driver s license. 7. Drivers of vehicles may not throw any item from a moving vehicle, and they are not to talk or text on their cell phone during the parade. 8. Participants must keep all body parts within the confines of the vehicle or float. Dangling feet over the edge of the vehicle is prohibited. No one will be permitted to ride on the roof or hood of a moving vehicle. 9. Parade participants should in no way encourage spectators to leave the curb or move into the street for any reason. 10. Participants are prohibited from leaving any parade apparatus, moving or stopped, during the parade.
The parade is expected to begin at Tuskawilla Middle School at 1:35pm. The parade will end at the Lake Howell practice fields behind building four. Meet at the Tuskawilla Middle School bus ramp by 1:00pm on Friday, November 3, 2017 for parade line up. Parking will be limited so please carpool. This form is due by October 25, 2017 to Ms. Dopson in 7-114. Sponsors and a student representative are required to attend the Pre Parade meeting after school on Tuesday, October 31 st in Ms. Dopson s classroom. We, (organization or club name) have read and fully understand the rules and regulations of the 2017-2018 Lake Howell High School Homecoming Parade. By signing this, we understand that we must comply with all rules explained in this packet. If we are found in non-compliance with these rules, we understand that we may be disqualified from participating in the parade. We acknowledge and understand that the driver of our float must have a driver s license. The driver must be a parent, guardian, teacher, or sponsor not a student. The adult coach or sponsor responsible for the organization must attend the Pre-Parade Meeting on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 2:30pm in 7-114. A student representative must also be in attendance.
