TOASTMASTER SCRIPT SPEECH EVALUATION CONTEST <Contest Chair opens contest, leads the Pledge of Allegiance, introduces the Toastmaster> Welcome to the Toastmasters <Area X & Y / Division Z / District 23> Speech Contests! Please keep aisles clear of obstructions such as briefcases, purses, etc. The Sergeant-at-Arms is instructed to not allow anyone to enter or leave during any of the speeches; you may only enter or leave in between speeches. 1
~ SPEECH EVALUATION CONTEST ~ Here are the rules for the Speech Evaluation Contest. We begin our contest with a 5-7 minute Test speech. After the Test speech, contestants are escorted out of the room and spend five minutes preparing notes for their evaluation. After five minutes, the Sergeant-at-Arms collects the notes of each contestant, except for those of Contestant #1. Contestant #1 is escorted back in the room, and is introduced by the Toastmaster. Notes of subsequent contestants are returned just before each comes back in the room. After finishing their evaluation, contestants may remain in the room for the duration of the contest. Evaluations are 2 to 3 minutes in length. Minimum time is 1 1/2 minutes; maximum time is 3 1/2 minutes. The green light comes on at TWO minutes... yellow light at TWO-AND-A-HALF minutes... and the red light at THREE minutes. There is 1 minute of silence between contestants for judges to complete their tallies There is two minutes of silence after the last contestant to give judges time to complete and submit their ballots. If there are 3 contestants, then first place is announced and the 2nd place contestant is notified in private and alerted that they may move forward to compete if the 1st place winner cannot compete.
