EACC NEWS East Aurora Country Club Member Newsletter June, 2018 Board of Directors Message from the President: June, 2018 Doug Marky President Jay Hoagland Vice President Human Resource Chair Golf Co-Chair Dave Finn Treasurer Finance Co-Chair Matt Hasselback Secretary House Co-Chair Membership Co-Chair John Holder Membership Chairman John McKenna Everything at EACC seems to be headed in a positive direction. We have 10 more members than we had at this time last year. May House events have been well-attended, especially the Mothers Day brunch and the Kentucky Derby/Cinco de Mayo party. Although Wine Down Wednesday is off the schedule for the summer, Thursday Happy Hour has become popular. As of now the hours have been expanded from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Come and enjoy ½ price appetizers, and beer and wine specials. The June event calendar is included in this newsletter. Social golf events start with the Memorial Day Social on May 28th (I know, that s already over) and finish with Cross Country Golf on September 22 nd. Please consider inviting friends and enjoy our 12-event season. Don t forget to make a reservation for dinner. Golf events in May have also been well-attended. The Tulip Tournament and Lobster Stag sold out even though Dave Jones expanded the size of the field in each event. The ladies groups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday have been in full swing for quite a while now, and the mens Twilight as well. The 66 th International Junior Masters this year will run from Monday, June 25th, through Friday, June 29 th. It s a great experience for all of us. You could play in the Ham-Am on Monday, host a player(s), be a hole spotter/observer or just enjoy some excellent golf played by young golfers from all over the world. Sign-up sheets will be available in the pro shop. Continued from Page 1 Message from the President: June, 2018 You might notice some changes in this year s directory. We changed printers, and it is now being produced by Martyn Printing in East Aurora. It is the same company that prints the IJM booklet for us. The directory will be going in the mail to you within the next few days. Please call Sally in the business office if you see any errors, so corrections can be made for next year. Have a great June! Come out and play a lot of golf, have dinner and just enjoy our beautiful course. Doug Marky, President Golf is a game played on a 5 inch course the one between your ears. Bobby Jones We d like to take this opportunity to welcome the following new members to the EACC family. James Fitzgerald Frank Jurek Ethan Fisher Benjamin Rand David Jablonski Steven Wrzochul Our current membership count is hovering around 230. It s a solid number, but a few short of our ideal goal. If you have anyone that may be interested in joining, please have them contact me and I will take care of the rest. The golf course is in mint condition right now. It s a perfect time to bring a potential member and let the facility sell itself! 2

News from the Golf Shop: The start of May meant the start of our weekly leagues. Men s Twilight and WWL both kicked off at the beginning of the month and have been going strong ever since. It is great to see everyone back for Twilight as well as some new faces and the number of teams in WWL is fantastic. Our first major of the year was a fantastic success. The Tulip always seems to have one of the two days affected by suspect weather, but not this year (even though it tried). We avoided the rain on Saturday and couldn t have asked for a better day on Friday. Congratulations to our 2018 Tulip Tournament champions Jeff Pappalardo & Bob Keddie who shot a two-day score of 123. Our overall runners up were Jeff Ensminger & Jeff Markello at 131. A lot of great golf was played during the event. Flight Winners are as follows: Mashie Bruce Davidson & Gordy Fitzgerald 132 Niblik Bob Colt & Dean Smith 137 Cleek Dave Finn & Mike Finn 138 Spoon Rick Dean & John McKenna 135 Brassie Mike Woloszynski & Brett Burgher 134 Driver Larry Poturalski & John Ulmer - 139 Wednesday, May 23 rd brought our annual May Lobster Stag. As always, the sign up filled up quick as this event is a big draw. We had a full field and a perfect day for golf and, more importantly, lobster! Our winning team consisted of Jeff Burke and three guests, Mark Russo, Mike Russo & Charlie Sciandra. They shot the winning shamble score of 117. Our first Social Golf event of the year took place on Memorial Day and we had a big turnout. The weather was spectacular and everyone involved had a great time. Our winners were Fred & Jody Marshall and Tim Connelly & Sue Martinick who fired a mixed better ball score of 131 to come out on top. What a fun day! Remember to keep your eyes open for upcoming events. We have the Men s and Ladies Invitational just around the corner. We will be sending notifications out as to when the sign-ups will be available. Junior News: Our PGA Junior League is well underway. Our kids are doing phenomenal. We are 2-1 with 2 matches to go. Remember, our kids are the future of EACC and golf. If you see any of them on the course, please do your best to engage them and make them feel special! Gwen Yarnall - Gwen played in the NYS PGA Jr. Invite Only Championships at Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown, NY on May 13 th and 14 th. She finished 4 th in the 13-18 Girls Division and 2 nd in her age division (13-14-year-old), shooting a 94 on Saturday and an 84 on Sunday. On Saturday, May 19th, Gwen shot an 83 at Lakeshore Country Club in Rochester, NY to win her 1st WNY Junior PGA Tournament. She moved up and is now playing in the 16-18-year-old Girls Division as a 13-year-old. Dave 3

Grounds With Drew Summer is here!!! It has been worth the wait and we are into full swing. We are staffed up and mowing grass. And wow, is there a ton of it to mow. The grass has been growing at record pace and we are doing all we can to keep on top of it. The course has emerged from its winter slumber in good condition so if you haven t been out please come see us. I know you are all aware of the amazing staff we have here at EACC. Each department is filled with incredible people that strive to make us the great club that we are. The level of commitment and dedication they give to the EACC family is amazing. There are not many here that have given that commitment at the same level as Jon Rosenberg has. This year marks Jon s 40 th year as a member of the EACC grounds staff. Jon is an incredible asset to us and is always willing to do whatever is needed to get things done. If you see him, please congratulate him on this amazing milestone in his career. Thanks Jon!! See you on the course! Drew Thompson, CGCS House News Leagues, tournaments, and Lobster Stag OMG. May brought some beautiful weather, plenty of sunshine, gorgeous views from the patio, and golf! The Tulip Tournament was a very exciting time with plenty of great energy buzzing around the clubhouse. I want to thank Chef Steve and the house staff for all their hard work and dedication to help make this event a success. A special shout out to Mother Nature for keeping the rain at bay as our golfers celebrated the first tournament of the season. As we gear up for the summer, I want to take a moment to thank all the members and staff who have helped me along the way. Your guidance has given me some focus on what it means to be the clubhouse manager at EACC. Any feedback or suggestions have been taken to heart, and I promise to do my best in ensuring all the members have a terrific summer here. Speaking of summer, it s not even here and we are booked to the max with events. Keep your eyes open for weekly emails about upcoming house and golf events. We still have some room for any graduation parties or any special event you would like to host at the clubhouse. Call me or Frankie and we will gladly assist in your event. We at the clubhouse are looking forward to serving you the best we can offer during the upcoming golf season. Join us every Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 for our extended happy hour, featuring ½ beer, glasses of wine, and appetizers. Finally, let s not forget our biggest event, the International Junior Masters, is just around the corner and it s sure to be a terrific kick start to the summer. Happy Golfing! IJM Update June 2018 Well, IJM month is finally upon us! The committees and EACC personnel have been hard at work since last fall and we are very excited about this year s tournament. As the tournament draws closer I am often approached by other members who say something like Bet you ll be glad when this is all over. In truth, I can t wait for it to start. I am sure I speak for many on our committees who really look forward to seeing the kids during tournament week. Just a few reminders on dates: June 25--Ham Am. The course and practice areas are closed throughout the day. June 26 Tournament starts at 7am off of the first tee. June 27 Medal play continues off both tees at 7am. Top 32 compete in match play to determine Championship Flight Champions Dinner begins at 6:30 June 28 Match play begins in all brackets off both tees at 7am. June 29 Match play semi-finals begin in all brackets off first tee at 7:30. Match play finals begin in all brackets off first tee at 1:00. FINALS PARTY BEGINS AT 5:00 The signup sheet for on course volunteers will be up in the pro shop beginning the week of June 4. Please see Doug Marky, Rudy Ruschmann or Tom Rosenthal if you have questions. If you have interest in hosting a player for the week please see Mark Melas for details. All during tournament week we are approached by parents, coaches, etc. who consistently remark about the quality of the course, the professionalism of our staff and in particular, the friendliness of the membership. It is a great opportunity to show off EACC to a much wider audience. Please plan on coming out to watch some talented junior golfers during the week. There are a few foursomes available for the Ham Am as I write this so please see the guys in the Pro Shop if you have interest. It is a nice way to see things up close and get to know some of the kids a bit better. Jeff Kamien Tournament Director Nothing reported. MULLIGAN'S NEWS 5

News from the Women s Board Summer is officially underway, and the board is breathing a collective sigh of relief. Just like that, our major event of the year, Lucky Lady s Night, is behind us! I would like to thank everyone for all of their hard work and dedication. Thank you to Chef Steve, Sally, Eric and the wait & bar staffs for their service and fine attention to detail. To the Women s Board, thank you all for your enthusiasm, creativity, time and dedication. And thank you to the members for your support, attendance and donations. We had a very successful evening, and have already started to allocate our earnings to make improvements around the club. In the upcoming weeks, you will notice replacement vanities in the 3rd hole comfort stations, and some minor aesthetic improvements in the ladies locker room & lounge. We are working with Eric and the House Committee to make further improvements in the upcoming weeks to months. We do have a couple events planned for this month that are worth mentioning: On Sunday, June 3rd, Mary Kamien will be leading her Flower Power Seminar from 2 4 pm. See the poster in the newsletter for more details. If you re interested, please contact me and let me know if your planter will be in the SUN or the SHADE. Feel free to bring a friend! Green Thumbs are not a requirement. On Thursday, June 21st, Chip & Sip will return! There will be an hour long chipping lesson led by Kevin & Brandon. The sipping will follow at the bar. Keep an eye out for fliers around the clubhouse and in the pro-shop in the next week or so for more information. Please sign up in the pro shop. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns. See you on the course! Emily Obrist (ekobrist@gmail.com) Women s Board President 9
