This is our third and final event for the summer and we ve got a number of different distance options to choose from: standard tri, sprint tri, short tri, aquabike, swim only and duathlon. This event also doubles as the Tri Wellington Standard Distance Club Champs but you don t need to be a tri club member or taking part in the club champs to enter. We can t run our events without a solid Health & Safety plan. Your safety takes priority. Please read through this event briefing. It s got some really important stuff you need to know for event day. EVENT 3: SATURDAY 17 TH MARCH 2018 There are lots of options this weekend: Standard Tri: 1500m swim / 30km bike / 10km run Sprint Tri: 500m swim / 15km bike / 5km run Short Tri: 250m swim / 6km bike / 2.5km run Standard Aquabike: 1500m swim / 30km bike Sprint Aquabike: 500m swim / 15km bike Swim Only: 1000m or 1500m or 2000m (Standard, sprint and short duathlon options also available) This event also incorporates the Tri Wellington Standard Distance Club Champs ENTRY AND REGISTRATION Enter and pay online: $35 for adults and teams (all distance options), $30 for secondary school students. Registration is on the day at Scorching Bay. We will have late entries on the day but with a $5 late fee. Payment MUST be in cash please (sorry, we don t have eftpos). You must be registered and numbered before you can enter transition. The minimum age to enter is 10 years for the short course, 16 years for sprint and standard. If you think you ve entered but haven t received a confirmation email please let us know. If your name isn t on our entrants list you will need to pay on the day. SWIM COURSE There will be both a 500m and a 250m lap swim course set Standard: 3x 500m laps (1500m) Sprint: 1x 500m lap (500m) Short: 1x 250m lap (250m) Swim only options will use the 500m lap: 1000m = 2x laps, 1500m = 3x laps, 2000m = 4x laps. Finish in transition. The swim turn is on the beach. You will need to exit the water and run/walk around the marker before re-entering the water for your next lap. BIKE COURSE The bike course is an out-and-back and heads south. The short course turns just past the Seatoun Wharf, the standard and sprint distance turn at Moa Point. Standard: 2x laps (30km) Sprint: 1x lap (15km) Short: 1x lap (6km) We will have stop/go marshals at the turnaround points but please be aware of traffic behind you when turning. You must treat the roads as open at all times and obey all road rules and regulations. Do not cross the centre line. If you cross the centre line you will be disqualified. When you return to Scorching Bay you must ride around the roundabout first (see transition map) before either heading out on your next lap, or dismounting your bike at the line to enter transition to start your run. When dismounting your bike please try to keep to the left so riders continuing on their next lap can get past safely. This is a non-drafting bike course. (You must be at least 10m behind the cyclist in front of you). There won t be a service vehicle on course you will need to be self sufficient. RUN COURSE The run course is an out and back heading north, with the turnaround at the big rock at Mahanga Bay Standard: 4x laps (10km) Sprint: 2x laps (5km) Short: 1x lap (2.5km) The roads are open. Please keep to the formed pathway as best you can. If you encounter runners coming in the opposite direction. Please keep to the left. When you return to Scorching Bay either run to the finish line, or keep left and run past transition before turning left down the ramp down to head out on your next lap (see transition map). TRANSITION Please make sure you know where the entry and exit points are. To start your bike leg head out of transition and turn right to the mount line on the road. To start your run head out of transition, turn left towards the beach and run down the ramp and along the footpath beside the beach. Swim Only and Aquabike participants will finish once they cross the timing mats at the entry to transition. Teams tag in transition at their team bike. Event 3: Saturday 17 th March 2018 [8]
TRANSITION RULES There may be some crossover of short course swimmers entering transition and runners heading out on the run course. Swimmers must give way. Please have your helmet on correctly before you take your bike off the rack, and keep it on and done up until your bike is racked. Walk (or run) your bike out of transition and get on your bike once you have passed the mount line on the road. You must get off your bike before the dismount line. Please obey the marshals on the road. They are there for your safety. No big boxes or bags to be left in transition. We will have a timing system for this event. There will be one in transition (to capture your swim time and your bike+t1 time), and one at the finish line. IMPORTANT STUFF All roads are open. You must treat all roads as being open to other road users and obey the road rules at all times. NO drafting on the bike please. Please do not attempt to overtake any vehicles! If you encounter slow traffic that is unfortunately bad luck. Please be considerate to ALL road users. Please obey the marshals at the turnaround points. They are there for your safety. The condition of your gear is your responsibility. Please check that everything is up to scratch and in good working order. If you choose not to continue at any stage please notify the finish line marshals so we can reconcile all our participants. Wellington s weather can be a bit finicky. Please dress to the conditions.
