The MGA and MWGA are very important to MCC. The MGA has funded many projects such as the golf course drainage, sand, sod, and provided extra summer labor for certain projects or needs. The MGA along with the MWGA contributed for the labor to the downstairs carpet. Last month the MGA provided a skidsteer to remove the grassy sand piles next to the 7 tee box. All funds collected by the MGA whether it is for dues or tournament fees go back into MCC. I want to thank David and the MGA for their time and contributions. The MWGA has continued making improvements to the downstairs hall and ladies locker room. The hallway cabinet is being provided by Mike Goodson. Please take a minute to thank the MWGA members and Mike for their donations. As the days get longer and warmer there is more activity on the course. Please take a minute to review the MCC calendar. There are a couple of college tournaments being hosted by MCC that you may want to watch. MCC has a great product but likewise we are still looking to make improvements for the benefit of our membership. Many of these projects take time but they are on the table and being discussed. Please bear with us but likewise the BOD would like to hear any constructive ideas and suggestions. I want to thank everyone for your support, promotion and utilization of our club. Best Easter wishes to you and your families. Page 3 Maumelle Country Club April 2017 T U R K TALK Spring has finally arrived, and it didn t get here soon enough. We have a long list of to do s, but we are certainly making progress. Green covers will be on the top of that list to get them back into storage as soon as possible. We will be attacking a couple of drainage issues at #18 green and # 3, right of fairway bunker, hopefully sooner than later. With the growing season upon us, we will be limited as far as what projects we can or cannot handle, but we are gaining on them. Still waiting on the course to dry enough, so to accomplish some tree work we set out to do this winter, mother nature has had our hands tied. Be on the look, for a bunker etiquette video this month. It will post on our Cary s On the Course Report and our turf grass blog, be sure to follow us at maumelleturfgrass.wordpress.com, if you are not already. Bunker Edging is still progressing on the back nine, with only holes 13,14, and 16 remaining. This will be a huge task completed, it sure has made a difference and I extremely proud of our crew. Also, we will be implementing new cart path staking, to help control our cart traffic around the course. We are making the stakes in house, it is way more cost effective than purchasing traditional one s, and will provide a consistent, sharp, formal look, while helping relieve some high stress, high traffic areas, and will aid in directing our cart traffic. The driving range tee and carts being allowed back off paths, is still tentatively set for April 1, but all depends on Mother Nature. We ve top dressed the tee and now are just waiting for soil temps and long warm days, so please refrain from hitting off the turf just a little bit longer. We have been gracious on the nicer days with the carts and 90 degree rule, so as long as its dry, we want everyone to enjoy their round, but we will do what is best for the course when it is wet, thanks for everyone s understanding. Also, the three hole rotation will be back to the regular one cup per green this month. Thank you again, MGA, MWGA, and members, for all the support and contributions. The meet and greet was especially great, thanks to all who came out. We certainly hope your seeing changes for the better. Sincerely, Lance Norwood Golf Course Superintendent KIDS EASTER EGG HUNT @ MCC Saturday, April 15 th, 2017 11:00am Easter Egg Hunt Join us for our Annual MCC Egg Hunt and visit with the Easter Bunny. Sandy Carpenter and Lynette Pipkins always host this tournament and work hard raising money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. We have great volunteers in our MWGA. We welcome new members that joined our group at the night meeting in March. They are Jennifer Henington, Regina Mason, Ginger Majors, and Anita Moore. Ladies Play day is usually on Wednesday mornings at 9. When we finish playing, we have lunch together. We have a Tuesday evening 9 hole scramble at 5:30. Janet Taylor heads this up and does a great job. Please let her know if you are playing by 5:00pm on Tuesday. She pairs you up and everyone has a great time. Happy Hour Tuesday- Friday 5-7pm Free Steak Dinner Somewhere hidden in the newsletter are four Member s club numbers. Find 2591your member number and win one free steak dinner. You must claim your dinner before the last business day of the month. The Maumelle Women s Golf Association is sponsoring the Susan G. Komen Foundation for research to prevent breast cancer. Hole sponsorships are available for $100.00, payable to MWGA. We will also have a silent auction in conjunction with the tournament. To donate auction items, please contact Lynette Pipkins (350-5001). I am posting Mixed Scramble invitations in our Locker Room as I receive them. Check these out and if you have questions, please call me. Terry and I have been playing in these and have made lots of good friends over the years. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the course, Ruth Ann Trice, MWGA President G O L F Greetings from the golf shop! Spring is here!
