Mike Trock MANPOWER Jon Hemb MEMBERSHIP & MARKETING Paula Modlinski PLANNING Kyle Brunk PUBLIC RELATIONS Barb Mueller Commodore s Comments Like the quagga mussels that have siphoned off the phytoplankton, zooplankton and algae from the waters of Lake Michigan, our government is poised to siphon off a little more of your paycheck. My 401K is looking more like a Christmas Club savings account than a means to retirement, and my stock portfolio contains about the same value as that jar of spare change I keep on my dresser. Yet our government wants to redistribute the wealth in this country. If they can find any more wealth in the good old US of A, more power to them. The working men and women of this yacht club don t have as much wealth to redistribute after the recent turmoil on Wall Street. Here s what you can do with what little you have left: Build an addition on your boat. I m thinking that a nice upper level on my Cruisers Esprit will offer a little more living space and a better view of the lake. Invest in beer futures. Because the price of beer keeps rising, now is a good time to stockpile your favorite beverage to last you through the winter months. Find a cool spot in your garage, porch or basement to chill your brew and save on electricity. Got gas? Where was $2.30 gasoline this summer when we really needed it? You can finally afford to drive south to Florida for a winter vacation. Invest in a metal detector. If you decide to bury your cash in coffee cans in the backyard, this will come in handy. Let s hope that your neighbors haven t invested in one, too. Most of all, have some fun. Things are not always as bad as they seem. At least we have our friends, family and this club to keep our spirits up. See ya at the club, Ray Disclaimer: The Commodore is not a financial planner or consultant, hence his comments should only be read for entertainment purposes.
