INTERNATIONAL CAREER HIGHLIGHTS Chhetri made his debut for the India national team in the 2004 SAFF Games in Pakistan. Chhetri's first international tournament was the 2007 Nehru Cup. He finished with a tally of 4 goals and was involved in the build-up to N.P. Pradeep's decisive goal as India beat Syria 1 0 in the final to become the first champions of the tournament since 1997. He scored a hat-trick in the finals which enabled India to win the Challenger Cup. This automatically qualified India for the 2011 Asian Cup, the first time they had qualified for the tournament in 24 years. Sunil scored 2 goals in the 2011 Asian Cup scoring against South Korea and Bahrain. Sunil was the leading scorer in India's SAFF Cup triumph with 7 goals in 5 matches that saw him win the MVP award and the golden boot. He was also the Man of the Tournament in the recently concluded Nehru Cup. Chhetri scored 4 goals in 5 matches.

High Praise Scottish football giants, Rangers invited Sunil and India strike partner Jeje for a week long trials at their facility in Glasgow. Rangers manager Ally McCoist, said, "Sunil and Jeje did fine and showed up well in training. They showed some lovely touches and adapted to the different surroundings they experienced.
