Fall / Winter 2009-2010 The Homecoming Parade By Alexandria Halloween at The Heritage Park By Ashley The Mt. Sinai Homecoming parade was held Saturday, October 17, 2009. The parade began at the Mt. Sinai Fire Dept. and ended at the high school football field. This year s theme was Cities and the Elementary School chose Dallas, Texas. During the game, the cheerleaders looked so excited as they went up in stunts. The Mt. Sinai football team planned a great play and they almost scored a touchdown. Sadly our team lost, but it was fun to watch. The Heritage Park built a haunted house this October. The high school students volunteered to work there. They dressed up in spooky costumes and did a great job of scaring us! I went with my friend and sister. When you go in, you have to be in single file. It was very dark. I banged my head against the window because it looked like a door! When we ran out we went straight onto the haunted hayride. Again the high school students did a great job of scaring us! This was a fund raiser for the park to help keep it clean. This was a great fun activity for your whole family. It would be very fun for the whole community if they did it again next year!

Shoots and Scores By Tyler and Trevor Crayon Comparison By Julia I did a crayon test to see which brand works best. I took five brands of crayons to use. The brands I used were Greenbrier from Dollar Tree, Creatology by Michaels, Disney, Rose Art, and Crayola. I used green because it comes in many shades. Crayola was the darkest color and the easiest to control the shades. Creatology also colored well and since it was thicker it felt stronger. RoseArt colored very bright and was also easy to control the shades, like Crayola. With Disney, I had to push really hard and the color still didn t come out very well. Greenbrier didn t offer green, only yellow-green. Although it colored fast and easily, Greenbrier ended out breaking in half. Overall, Crayola worked best, as I thought it would! Mt. Sinai High School girls soccer team played against Bayport girls soccer team. The ending score was 3 to 1 Mt. Sinai. Number 21 scored on a great breakaway. Number 27 scored from an impossible angle which means it was a very hard play. Then for the last score, Mt. Sinai number 27 scored again but with 3 people on her! Bayport number 14 scored on a breakaway too! RIDDLES By Rachel What does a ghost feed a goblin? A turkey boo sandwich. What does a cookie do to another cookie? Eat them self up. What dose a dog say to another dog? Bark Bark!! 2

An Interview with Mr. Burk By Nicholas RIDDLES By Trevor Why didn t the skeleton cross the road? Because he had no guts! I sat down with Mr. Burk and asked him a few questions. Mr. Burk became a gym teacher because sports helped him in college. He went to the University of Bridgeport. Mr. Burk has been teaching for 37 years. That s a lot of years teaching! He has twins, a boy and a girl. They are both 21 years old. Mr. Burk s wife is also a teacher. She teaches at our High School. That s what happened or still happening with Mr. Burk s life. RIDDLES By Justin What phone is a robber afraid of? A cell phone. What do you get when you cross a vampire in the winter? Frostbite. What does a butterfly look like? A piece of butter that flies. What is the point of an eraser? To race. Food Web By Nicholas Our 4 th grade students got to participate in a video conference about the food web. A Food Web is like a web with animals in it. Each animal is in a part of the pyramid. The carnivores are at the top. Omnivores are in the second part of the pyramid. The third part belongs to the herbivores & finally the bottom part is the consumers. This was a very interesting way of seeing the order of the food chain and web That s what we did at the Bronx Zoo Videoconference. 3

Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade By Nicholas snow. Christmas is great because you usually stay home from school for Christmas vacation. Christmas Day makes everybody happy. That is why Christmas is my favorite holiday! After I had my breakfast on Thanksgiving morning I watched the 83 rd annual Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade. There were all different kinds of entertainment. There were a lot of humongous balloons and floats everywhere! There were about 3 million people there. There were high school bands from all over the country there too. The hi-light was the Radio City Rockette s doing there famous kick line! They were fantastic. By Tyler & Brian On the 15 th of December Mark Rust performed a Multi Cultural Holiday Show by playing instruments for the elementary school students. He talked about 4 special holidays, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukah and 3 Kings Day. He also played holiday songs such as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. We sang a different version of Rudolph. He also played a multi-cultural instrument. What really amazed us was when he showed us the inside of a piano. That s all about the Multi-Cultural Show! 8
