Overview BioGuard Power Chlor is the next generation in granular pool care products. Under development and extensively tested for more than 3 years, this patented sanitiser, algaecide and shock replaces traditional granular swimming pool sanitisers and shock products containing calcium hypochlorite. Power Chlor kills bacteria and algae, removes swimmer contaminants, clears up cloudy water, helps prevent algae and is protected against UV degradation by sunlight. Power Chlor provides this total consumer benefit package because of its patented amalgamation of compounds. The ingredients are not merely blended together, but rather combined through a unique manufacturing process that ensures each individual granule contains all of the compounds. This revolutionary technology is the key to performance, with each compound working with the others to provide clear sanitised pool water. While trichloroisocyanuric acid is the workhorse of Power Chlor, killing bacteria and algae, an additional compound, sodium tetraborate pentahydrate, has been added to help prevent algal growth and enhance bather comfort. As algae and bacteria are being killed, the filtration enhancer and clarifier aggregates particulate matter, including dead algae and bacteria. These aggregates are then trapped in the filter to provide crystal clear water. Another key ingredient, cyanuric acid, protects chlorine in the pool water from the degrading effects of sunlight. This keeps chlorine in the pool to kill algae and bacteria, saving money and improving bather safety. Application Power Chlor is easy to use. The formula is designed to be applied at the rate of 15-30 grams per 10,000 litres directly into the skimmer. With no pre-dissolving necessary, Power Chlor makes pool care a breeze. It is also possible to add Power Chlor directly to the pool but, if the potential bleaching of vinyl, coloured plaster or fibreglass surfaces is a concern, the granules should be brushed along the pool floor until they completely dissolve. 1 / 11

Ingredient Action Result Trichloroisocyanuric Acid (Trichlor) As trichlor dissociates in water, it provides hypochlorous acid (free chlorine) and cyanuric acid. Trichlor is a chlorinated isocyanurate, a class of compounds that were first introduced as sanitisers into swimming pools to control bacteria, algae, and swimmer contaminants in 1958. Chlorinated isocyanurates are currently the most popular compounds designed specifically to sanitise pools. Kills bacteria and algae, destroys organic wastes Sodium Tetraborate Pentahydrate Boric acid and tetraborate are patented algaecides and algaestats. Although the mechanism of action of boron compounds is not well understood, they are stable and stay in the pool to help prevent future algae outbreaks. Prevents algae Clarifier/Filtration Enhancer This ingredient combines small soluble and insoluble material into larger particulates. These larger particulates can then be removed easily by the filtration system. Makes water crystal clear Cyanuric Acid This compound prevents UV degradation of chlorine. Scientific studies have shown free chlorine often lasts 3-4 times longer in outdoor pools treated with cyanuric acid than those without such stabilisation. Protects chlorine loss due to sunlight Benefits 2 / 11

The CONSUMER benefits from using Power Chlor because the product: - l Provides available chlorine (present as trichloroisocyanuric acid) that kills bacteria and algae and removes swimmer contaminants. - l Has a separate algae preventative (sodium tetraborate pentahydrate). - l Has a clarifier and filtration enhancer making the pool crystal clear. - l Has a UV protector so that less chlorine is lost due to the degrading effects of sunlight. - l Unlike calcium hypochlorite, does not cloud the water as all components are completely soluble. The RETAILER benefits from using Power Chlor because the product: - l Is a new product which will generate consumer excitement. - l Is a new patented product that is not a commodity (i.e. pricing pressures will be less). - l Is rated as a non-oxidiser, eliminating storage restrictions. - l Is much safer to store than calcium hypochlorite from a fire safety standpoint. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Question Answer Comments What are the ingredients in Power Chlor and what is the chlorinating compound in it? The chlorinating compound in Power Chlor is trichloroisocyanuric acid (trichlor). This product also contains a water clarifier, a filtration enhancer, an algae preventative and a UV protector. What is the purpose of Power Chlor? What does it do? It sanitises and/or shocks pool water. Beyond sanitation and shocking, it clarifies pool water, kills and prevents algae, and the UV protector protects chlorine from sunlight "burn-off". Will Power Chlor kill algae?yes. Power Chlor can be used for algae treatment. Follow specific directions on the label for light, moderate and heavy algal growth. If needed, repeat the treatment. For guaranteed results in 24 3 / 11

hours for all algae types, including mustard algae, use Power Chlor in conjunction with MSA II following its label directions. How often do I need to add Power Chlor when I am using it for routine chlorination, and how much do I add? For use as a sanitiser/routine chlorination, add 15-30 grams per 10,000 litres every day, every second day, or as often as needed to maintain a chlorine residual in the range 1-3 ppm. The amount of product required and frequency of addition for routine chlorination will vary with the number of swimmers, water temperature and amount of rain. Operate the pump a minimum 10 hours per day for best results. Do I still need to add a water clarifier if I am using Power Chlor for routine chlorination or as a shock treatment? No. Power Chlor contains a water clarifier. Most of the time, Power Chlor will keep your pool clear. Other water clarifiers are compatible with Power Chlor if you choose to use them for clearing cloudy water quickly. Can Power Chlor be used as a shock treatment with my tablets that I am skimmer feeding since it says not to mix this product with any other pool chemical product? Yes. If tablets are being applied for routine chlorination in the skimmer, remove the skimmer basket with the tablets as the Power Chlor is applied and follow label directions. CAUTION: When still in the concentrated form, no pool chemicals should be mixed together. Do I need to pre-dissolve Power Chlor before adding it in my No. pool? Power Chlor should not be predissolved. If the pool has a 4 / 11

bleachable surface, such as vinyl, coloured plaster, painted or fibreglass, use skimmer application with the circulation system operating, or add directly to pool, brushing visible product until completely dissolved to avoid bleaching. Can I use Power Chlor in my spa? No. Power Chlor is designed specifically for pool usage. For spa application, there is a complete line of SpaGuard products. Can I use Power Chlor in my nonchlorine system? If your non-chlorine system is based on biguanides like Baquacil, do NOT use Power Chlor. If your system directions call for shocking with a chlorine shock, you may use Power Chlor. Can I use Power Chlor if I use brominating products to sanitise my pool? Yes. The oxidiser in Power Chlor will re-activate the bromide, causing the bromine residual to increase in the pool. Follow label directions on each product for proper application method. Can I use Power Chlor to open my pool? Yes. Follow label instructions for initial start-up. For winter closing, Power Chlor may be used where the method calls for a chlorine shock in the closing process. If I am using Power Chlor as a sanitiser and shock, do I need to add anything else other than this multifunctional sanitiser/shock/algaecide with clarifier? Yes. You must still balance the pool water for ph, alkalinity and calcium hardness. The primary 5 / 11

role of Power Chlor is as a sanitiser and a shock. The clarifiers and algae preventatives will aid in preventing cloudy water and algae occurrences. In extreme circumstances, you may need to supplement Power Chlor with an algaecide, such as MSA II, or a clarifier, such as Polysheen Plus. Balancing includes ph, calcium hardness, and total alkalinity. If I am using Power Chlor as a shock treatment, will I ever need another type of chlorinating shock or non-chlorine shock? No. Can Lite be used with this product? How does this product differ from Lite? You do not need to use Lite with this product. Power Chlor is an allinclusive sanitiser and shock product. However, if you choose to, you can use Lite as a shock while you are using Power Chlor as a sanitiser. As with all chemicals, you should not mix the concentrated products, nor attempt to pre-dissolve the two products together. What treatment programs are incompatible with Power Chlor? Pools treated with a biguanide system like Baquacil are NOT compatible with Power Chlor. What products are incompatible with Power Chlor? Power Chlor should only be applied in its dry form to swimming pool water, either through the skimmer or directly into the pool water according to label directions. As with all chemicals, Power Chlor should never be mixed with other chemicals in their concentrated 6 / 11

form. In particular, calcium hypochlorite is extremely incompatible with Power Chlor This product completely replaces all uses you may have for calcium hypochlorite. We supply a clean measuring cup so that when you scoop out product, the cup is free of other chemical residues. What products or treatment programs are compatible with Power Chlor? All pools treated with chlorine or bromine based systems are compatible with the use of Power Chlor. Power Chlor is designed to replace calcium hypochlorite as a daily sanitiser and as a shock in chlorine- or bromine-treated pools. Does this product kill plants if backwashed? It is possible that water from a pool containing Power Chlor and other pool chemicals could be detrimental to plants and lawns. It is always advisable to direct backwash water away from plants as the flooding itself that occurs with the backwashing can be detrimental to plants. What happens if Power Chlor freezes? Power Chlor is a granular product that is not affected by freezing. Store in a cool, dry location not accessible by children. How does the water clarity using Power Chlor compare to calcium hypochlorite? The water will be clearer because Power Chlor has a separate clarifier, filtration enhancer and algae preventative. Additionally, you should no longer notice any haziness so often observed after calcium hypochlorite is applied to pool water. 7 / 11

How important is it that the pool be balanced? Because chlorine is the killing agent, it is imperative that the ph is within the correct 7.2-7.6 range the same as for calcium hypochlorite. How fast can I add the Power Chlor to the skimmer? It is important to pour the product slowly so that it will allow the product to be dispersed and not backsplash. A good method to be sure you are not adding too quickly is to sprinkle the contents of the scoop, rather than dumping the entire contents. Why should I not pre-dissolve Power Chlor? Power Chlor will not pre-dissolve rapidly in a small volume of water, therefore you should apply through the skimmer or broadcast the product directly into the pool water according to the label directions. If water splashed back from the skimmer into the scoop, are there any steps I should take? If water splashes into the scoop during application, finish emptying the scoop into the skimmer, and then rinse the scoop in the water of the pool. If any granules of product fall to the bottom of pool surface that is vinyl, painted plaster or fibreglass during this rinsing process, use a brush to remove them off the surface and prevent potential bleaching. Do not return the scoop to the original container until scoop is free of contaminants like leaves or dirt, and is completely dry. How long must I wait to swim after 8 / 11

the addition of the Power Chlor? Until the free available chlorine residual is between 1 and 3 ppm. Remember, it is always important to have at least 1 ppm free available chlorine residual present to provide proper sanitation. What is the shelf life of Power Chlor? Power Chlor is a new product, and shelf-life data indicates that this product can be expected to retain its effectiveness for at least 3 years when stored under proper conditions. Avoid storing in wet or humid areas, especially after opening. Always keep out of direct sunlight. Does this product contain the stabiliser cyanuric acid (CYA)? Yes. Cyanuric acid helps to protect chlorine from sunlight degradation, so that you are able to use 3-4 times less chlorine than pools without stabiliser. Chlorinated products containing cyanuric acid has been used for stabilizing chlorine since 1958. These products are the number one choice of pool professionals for sanitising pool water. Can I use Power Chlor to satisfy a chlorine demand? Yes. To satisfy a chlorine demand, apply Power Chlor as directed for a shock treatment and recheck chlorine residual 4 hours after application. If the chlorine demand is not satisfied as shown by a free available chlorine residual of at least 3 ppm being 9 / 11

present, repeat the application. If I followed shocking directions, and the chlorine residual is 0 ppm free available chlorine after 4 hours, should we retreat with Power Chlor? Yes. Simply add Power Chlor until at least a 1 ppm free available chlorine residual is maintained after 4 hours. I understand high levels (over 100 ppm) of CYA are bad because they cause bacteria or algae to grow and reduce my chlorine level in the pool. Is that true? No. A large body of scientific evidence shows that cyanuric acid does not slow chlorine s ability to kill bacteria and algae in pool water conditions. This conclusion contradicts some lab studies from the 50 s and 60 s which were performed with purified water, not pool water. The purpose of cyanuric acid is to protect chlorine from sunlight burn off, so actually the more cyanuric acid in the pool, the longer the chlorine in your pool stays around to fight bacteria, algae and other swimmer contaminants. Cyanuric acid has been used for over 40 years with great success. I have a question related to fire safety or product safety. Power Chlor has passed UN Burn Test 01, identifying it as a nondangerous good. As such, there is no requirement for a Class 5.1 Oxidising Agent diamond. Nevertheless, it should not be stored less than 3 metres from calcium hypochlorite or any Class 8 Corrosive compound. Trichloroisocyanuric acid and 10 / 11

sodium tetraborate pentahydrate are Schedule 5 poisons. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poisons Information Centre on 13 1126 (Australia) or 03 474 7000 (New Zealand). If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting - give a glass of water. All other questions related to these subjects should be directed to Bio- Lab. How long does a free available chlorine residual last using Power Chlor? Due to the sunlight protection, you will use 3-4 times less chlorinating product than in a calcium hypochlorite swimming pool that is not stabilised. The length of time that a chlorine residual is present in the pool from the application of any chlorinating product is dependent upon many factors, including temperature of the water, bather load and rain and windblown debris introduced into the pool. The above information is supplied by Bio-Lab and represents its best interpretation of available technical information at the time of preparation. The sole purpose is to supply factual information to Bio-Lab customers. It is not to be taken out of context nor used as support for any other claim not made herein. 11 / 11
