Céad Míle Fáilte roimh gach duine chuig Páirc Aibhistín de Staic, Trálí inniú. Fáilte chuig na imreoirí, Oifigí agus na lucht Leanúna, coimh maith le na Reiteoirí agus na n-oifigí freisin. You are all very welcome here today to the senior football Championship semi-final double bill between East and Kerins O Rahillys in the opening game followed by Austin Stacks and West. Both of these games promise to showcase all that is best in football as the sides strive for places in the semi final of the Championship. Minors On Sunday last our minor footballers made history by winning the first and last 4-in-a-row All Ireland football finals. The manner of the victory was unprecedented and is undoubtedly one of the most complete and flawless performances ever delivered by a Team in Croke Park at any level. Great Credit is due to Peter Keane and his management team who delivered back to back titles for following the two previous year wins under the stewardship of Jack O Connor. The impact of the Coaching structures put in place are obviously bearing fruit and we must note and acknowledge the work and commitment of Donal Daly, Eamonn Whelan, Tony O Keeffe and Terence Houlihan as well as the other GDA s and Development Squad Coaches. It is a truly remarkable achievement by any yardstick. Currans Development Current Status 4 sand based pitches and drills area fully installed & completed Clubhouse consists of 8nr changing rooms, gym, dedicated medical/physio & rehab area, canteen, kitchen, offices & cafe all now Fáiltiú an Chathaoirligh complete Gym fit-out to take place in November/December 2017 Pitch Lighting to be installed by December 2017 The completed facility will ultimately incorporate 6 pitches Facility will be fully available to all inter county teams in January 2018 Further International fundraising initiatives are planned for the coming year Senior Footballers Our senior football team were defeated in the All Ireland Semi Final Replay against Mayo. I would like to thank Éamonn Fitzmaurice, his selectors and management team for the tireless work put in during the year. With an undoubted source of footballing talent coming through from our U-21 and minor grades it is incumbent on all of us in to afford Senior Management the latitude to integrate these players into the senior set up in a structured and managed way. Our collective challenge is to introduce the players into the senior squad and give them sufficient game time while simultaneously ensuring that their physical development and wellbeing is nurtured and protected. I am confident that those charged with this responsibility will do so successfully. County Championship Review At our last County Committee meeting I appointed Eamonn Whelan to chair the County Championship Review group. This appointment delivers on a promise made at the start of the year to appoint a group to assess the effectiveness of the new championship structure. The group will report with their findings to the November County Committee meeting. Garveys Supervalu Senior County Football Championship quarterfinal By Paul Brennan Dr Crokes v Kenmare Shamrocks - PREVIEW AS sequels go, it s hard to see how this one can rival the original. A fortnight ago, at this same venue, Dr Crokes and Kenmare Shamrocks slugged it out against each other and a gale-force wind in the Senior Club Final before Crokes prevailed after extra-time. There s no silverware or title on offer today but this quarter-final is, in almost every sense, the bigger game. Dr Crokes can t retain their county championship title this afternoon but they can lose it. And if that goes then so does their All-Ireland Club title. That s what s on the line for the Killarney club. Kenmare have less to lose but, in many ways, they ve a lot more to gain. A win would nudge them another step along the county championship food chain, obviously, but victory would also mean another big step forward in this team s development. A Kenmare win would also bring about what would be Dr Crokes first defeat in 18 matches across county league, county championship, club championship and the All- Ireland series since January. That in itself illustrates that the Killarney men haven t slackened off one bit since claiming the Andy Merrigan Cup last March. It s not unreasonable to suggest that much of Crokes continuing appetite and application this year has been down to Colm Cooper s sole focus on club football, but and it seems heresy to say this Cooper no longer seems the main man in this team. Daithi Casey continues to be Photos: s Eye Ger Hartnett of Mid keeps a close eye on Colm Cooper of Dr Crokes during their Senior Football Championship Round 1 clash in Fitzgerald Stadium the driving force from midfield, often overshadowing Johnny Buckley, while Gooch has plenty of competition / assistance from Kieran O Leary and Micheal Burns, among others, in the attack. Sifting through the Senior Club Final for evidence of how this match might play out comes with a caveat: that gale-force wind two weeks ago rendered that match the quintessential game of two halves. Or four quarters, of sorts, when one factors in the extra-time. Kenmare did remarkably well to stay on Crokes coat-tails in the first half, and their two brilliantly constructed and executed goals kept them in touch on the scoreboard just enough to give them something to chase in the second half. And chase it they did. Sean O Shea with nine converted frees and three points from play was Kenmare s main man, but he couldn t have done what he did without a strong support cast, led admirably by Stephen O Brien, along with David Hallissey, Michael McCarthy and Paul O Connor among others. It goes without saying that Kenmare are going to have to build a big score this afternoon. It s a bad and rare day that this Crokes team doesn t score in the region of 15 points, but the reality is that Kenmare are probably going to have to mine 17 or 18 points to win, unless weather conditions dictate a low-scoring affair. That means Kenmare are going to need goals. They snaffled two the last day out and we can be certain Pat O Shea will have come down heavy on his defence for what was, essentially,

Kenmare manager John O Sullivan said the team would take confidence from their performance, and Shamrocks would do worse than to fully believe they can avenge that loss. We ve seen teams get crucified when trying to go mano a mano with Dr Crokes but we ve also seen teams try to defend in numbers and contain Crokes and also get beat. Photos: s Eye poor defending. It isn t in Crokes DnA to employ a sweeper but expect Fionn Fitzgerald, Gavin White et al to be much less generous today. David Hallissey of Kenmare Shamrocks in control of this situation against Killarney Legion in the Round 1 Replay at Kenmare This is a county championship quarter-final. It s knockout football. A certain amount of courage is required. Kenmare showed a fortnight ago that they could match Crokes in almost every aspect of the game, notwithstanding that Crokes did spurn quite a few goals chances. Kenmare must surely back themselves to rack up the scores through O Shea, O Brien and O Connor, and hope their defence can contain Cooper and co. But therein lies the problem for Kenmare. Dr Crokes have so many scoring outlets that defending against them is like trying to blow out those birthday candles that keep re-lighting. you quench one fire and another flares up. Cold logic says the defending champions will find a way to win. Garveys Supervalu Senior County Football Championship quarterfinal By Jimmy Rathmore v South - PREVIEW D Arcy THe clash of club side Rathmore with divisional side South should be one to savour in the Fitzgerald Stadium. South are a recent superpower, having beaten Killarney Legion in a replayed final just two years ago, while Rathmore have to go back to 2011 for a Senior Club Championship crown. However, they have very much been on a rising tide of late with an allconquering Dr. Crokes side losing out in a gripping O'Donoghue Cup contest between the sides last year. They John Moynihan of Rathmore has Padraig De Brúin of east to contend with during their Senior Football Championship Round 1 clash in Fitzgerald Stadium were a bit unlucky to finish just outside a League Final berth, coming third behind Crokes and Rahillys. During that league campaign, they amassed a phenomenal 28 goals in 11 games against the top clubs in the county. Rathmore opened their campaign with a thriller against east and survived a late goal chance by minor star David Clifford to win by 1-12 to 1-10. They were at home to Feale Rangers in the next round and led all through in a game that was occasionally fractious but filled with quality football. Shane Ryan has been a key threat at corner forward, but has lined out in goal in recent games. John Moynihan in the other corner is a goal-poacher par excellence. It is expected that eoin Lawlor will be back from injury to spearhead the attack. minor duties have held Brian Friel out of the action in the campaign this far, but he is sure to feature prominently. Aidan O'Mahony and Donal O'Sullivan form a midfield that will go toe to toe with anybody, while the defence features Paul Murphy, outstanding in both halves of the field and a real engine for the attack. Brendan O'Keeffe should slot straight in at full back, with Conor O'Sullivan manning centre back. That the game is on in Fitzgerald Stadium might prima facie be an advantage for the east club, but in fact that wide space suits South 's expansive style of football. The old adage has it that divisional sides take some time to properly gel in the championship but get better with each passing game. South 's form certainly seems to bear that out. The 2015 champions opened their campaign with a loss to Kerins O'Rahillys, with neither Killian young nor Bryan Sheehan able to play. Sheehan was back in top form against a struggling Kilcummin in the following round and his 1-4 and niall Ó Sé's first minute goal meant that the challengers were on the rack all through, South winning comfortably by 2-17 to 1-5. Rathmore are, of course, a different proposition given the form lines, but South have strength in depth. Padraig O'Sullivan mans the goals, while Paul O'Sullivan, Mark Griffin, and Photos: s Eye

Photos: s Eye Fionán Clifford form a formidable barrier in front of him that's before one even considers the possible return of Killian young. The half back line is a very strong platform, with Graham O'Sullivan, the versatile Denis Daly, and Robert Wharton all playing some superb football this year. Bryan Sheehan's freetaking excellence sometimes makes people South 's Denis Daly gets away from Kerins O Rahilly s tommy Begley during the forget how great a Garveys SuperValu County Football Championship Round 1 game at Strand Rd midfielder he is, and Brendan O'Sullivan's brilliance with the Juniors saw him rightly included in the senior line-up this year. The district that gave the likes of Mick O'Dwyer, Jack O'Shea, Maurice Fitzgerald, and Declan O'Sullivan has never lacked for scoring power, Paul O'Donoghue, Barry O'Dwyer, Conor O'Shea, Matthew O'Sullivan, Daniel Daly, deadly dangerous veteran niall Ó Sé, Chris Farley, Darragh O'Sullivan, and Dilan O'Donoghue all fit that mould. On that basis, South will go into this one wearing a slight favourites tag, but this likely to be too close to call. One thing s for sure, this will be a cracking game of football.
