Ryan his instructions were to ride his mount with cover. He added his mount began well and led the race early however speed was shown from runners to his outside in Long Lasting and Iwilldoit, so bearing in mind his instructions he allowed those runners to cross and lead the race. He added consequently his mount settled slightly further back than he had intended. He added he followed the leader Long Lasting in the early part of the straight and his intention was to improve into a run between Blinkin Elle and Iwilldoit however it was not travelling well enough to do so. He added he then attempted a run between Iwilldoit and Long Lasting however that run closed and he became held up on the heels of Long Lasting. He added despite his mount not finding a fully unimpeded run it never travelled well enough in the straight to be able to take the runs as they presented. He added his mount, which has had its last three runs over 1000m, today was not suited by being obliged to carry the top weight of 60kg stepping up to 1200m despite it having won two races over that distance albeit in weaker graded races with lower weights. He added in hindsight he would have continued to ride along early and hold Blinkin Elle out to retain a closer position. Trainer Ms. S. Grills stated she instructed G. Ryan to ride the horse with cover however she anticipated the horse to be closer than it was today however she was of the opinion that circumstances did not permit this to occur with speed shown from runners to Hammoon Boy s outside. She added today the horse was not suited by the heavy weight and it would now be her intention to look for races in Brisbane where the gelding will be given a lower weight. She added that in her opinion Hammoon Boy is also better suited on softer tracks; a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant
